Brighton Half Marathon – report by Sarah Hilliard
Marije Field and Sarah Hilliard enjoyed Brighton Half Marathon Sunday 25 February despite the Siberian weather which gave us one of the coldest starts to a race I have known, we wore as many layers, hats, gloves etc. as we could! Lovely sunshine warmed us up after a few miles and we were pleased with our finish chip times as we did try hard and neither of us had run a Half Marathon for some time (2 years in Sarah’s case) . We recommend this event, very well organised, excellent park & ride with a lovely warm bus to transport us to and from the finish, and probably the most enjoyable of my 6 times at this race. Not the slowest or fastest time for course and distance for us but we are getting older! Only drawback to this race is very early start from home
(6.15 am departure) and huge numbers taking part but good practice for Sarah, with Edinburgh Marathon in 13weeks time. Many thanks from Sarah to all the lovely people who have sponsored me for this race, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. If anyone would like to add to donations raised for this deserving charity please see Sarah’s fundraising page: http://www.justgiving.com/Sarah-‐Hilliard3 Marije Field 2hours 25 seconds (if only she hadn’t stopped for water!) Sarah Hilliard 2hours 4minutes 31seconds (too slow start so must do quicker predicted time next time and get in faster start pen!) Alex Cole also ran: 1.42
Heathfield Cross Country

Worthing Half
Despite strong seafront winds, Crowborough Runners produced some great times at the Worthing half marathon. Ollie Welch led the club and knocked 2 minutes off his previous half marathon best with a time of 1.22.48, whilst wife Eileen took 6 minutes off her pb in 1.41.57. It was a real family affair for the Harvey’s with mum Claire just being pipped by son Joe and Dad, Terry, completing the Harvey family team. South Downs Way Relay, June 2, 2018 We have another strong team this year for the wonderful SDW Relay: Alex, Natalie, Dave, Paul, Ollie and Eileen, who will also captain the team.
Ron has kindly offered to drive again and unless we can encourage anyone else to give it a go, Roger Stone will be navigator and 2nd driver.
Request for SDWR Marshals
The Club always marshals the Bo Peep car park handover, which is at the end of leg 3, midway between Alfriston and Firle. This is an important role for the club as it helps secure our team place each year in the face of fierce competition from teams on the waiting list. We need 3 marshals to manage this handover point, from 7.30am until around 10.30am, on the morning of 2 June. You will be out in all weather, in your high viz gear, checking the runners in and out and generally making sure the handover runs smoothly. It’s a good way to experience a little of the flavour of the event, without having to actually run it! Please contact Roger Stone if you are interested.
Membership update: Jonathan Nash has recently joined the club. [email protected]
