DALE WARLANDDale Warland, founder and music director
of The Dale Warland Singers, is professorof music at Macalester College in St. Pauland music director for the Rapid City FestivalChamber Singers. A graduate of St. OlafCollege, Warland received his master of artsdegree from the University of SouthernCalifornia. His academic honors include aTanglewood scholarship, a Ford Foundationgrant which enabled him to study choralmusic in England, Sweden, and Norwayduring 1971, and a 1984 Bush Foundation
ant to research English choral literature.
Dr. Warland is in demand as a clinician, lecturer and guest conductor. He hasconducted the Swedish Radio Choir (Stockholm), the Danish Radio Choir (Copenhagen),and many All-State Choral Festivals throughout the United States and Canada. Thisseason Warland will serve as guest conductor with the Houston Concert Chorale, theDanish Radio Choir, the choirs of the University of Ohio, and will prepare the LosAngeles Master Chorale for its performances of Krzysztof Penderecki's The PassionAccording to St. Luke with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. During the summerof 1985 he was choral clinician for the Great River Festival of Arts (University ofWisconsin La Crosse), Haystack '85 (Portland State University), and the Pacific LutheranUniversity Workshop for Choral Conductors.
Under his leadership, Dale Warland's choirs have received national and internationalacclaim and have concertized in Romania, Sweden, Norway, Poland and Germany. Heappears frequently with The Dale Warland Singers on National and American PublicRadio, including the popular "A Prairie Home Companion Show" with Garrison Keillor.To date, he has produced ten recordings with his Singers and has distinquishedhimself as a. composer and arranger. He is a member of the American Societyof Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), and former co-chair of the NationalEndowment for the Arts Choral and Recording Panels. Dr. Warland is currently amember of the board of directors for the Association of Professional Vocal Ensembles(APVE), and is a life member of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA).

Cit the dole worland sinqersOrganized in 1972, The Dale Warland Singers is a professional choral ensemble
based in the Twin Cities of Saint Paul and Minneapolis, Minnesota. Under the directionof Dr. Dale Warland, the Singers present a subscription concert series each year in theTwin Cities, as well as performing on community concert series throughout the region,broadcasting over National Public Radio, American Public Radio and Minnesota PublicRadio. Plans for the 1985-86 subscription season include concerts at Orchestra Hallin Minneapolis and the Ordway Music Theatre in St. Paul.
Marking its fourteenth season in 1985-86, the ensemble has an extensive repertoireof standard a cappella music representing a broad variety of styles. The Singers havealso made significant contributions to the performance of twentieth-century musicthrough numerous performances of contemporary literature and the ensemble's involve-ment in world premiere performances and commissions of works by local composersStephen Paulus and Dominick Argento, as well as Lukas Foss, William Schuman,George Shearing and the Danish composer Bo Holten.
The Dale Warland Singers have appeared with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra,the Minnesota Orchestra, and the Minnesota Opera. In 1977, the ensemble touredScandinavia and made recordings for both Swedish and Norwegian Radio. "Sing We ofChristmas", the ensemble's tenth record album, was released in 1983. As guestsHelmuth Rilling's International Bach Academy, the ensemble toured to Germany1985, where they collaborated with the NDR Radio Chorus and the Frankfurt RadioSymphony Orchestra in a concert and recording project. They then joined Germanand Polish choruses and the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra for performancesof Penderecki's "St. Luke Passion", under the baton of the composer.
