Film Trailer Analysis The trailer begins with a long shot of the Batman at the top of a building. However, it is quite difficult to see him as it’s dark and he’s a long distance away which gets the audience asking who that person is. The film trailer ends in a humorous way by taking out the Lamborghini. This is very important as it shows a completely new sub genre which isn’t seen in the rest of the trailer. Warner Bros is the film studio releasing the trailer as well as the film. Apart from ‘The Dark Knight’ Warner Bros has also released big films such as ‘The Lord of the Rings’ ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ and ‘Nightmare on Elm Street.’ The trailer is being displayed before the film is shown as the main aim of the trailer is to promote the film which will make people aware and therefore watch the film. This trailer tells us enough information about the film without spoiling it. The main genre shown throughout the film trailer is action. Examples of the action shown in the trailer are the bomb explosions which get the audience more into the film as they want to find out what happens next. There are also some sub genres which are portrayed in the trailer such as adventure, horror and romance. Horror is used when ‘The Joker’ is present as he connotes evilness and darkness. Romance isn’t seen too much yet we know that Rachel Dawes is in the centre of it all as Bruce Wayne is deeply in love with her yet she’s in a relationship with Harvey Dent. The story is told in a non linear order. This has probably be done in order to create mystery and so also to leave the viewer with a desire to watch the film. The film is set in Gotham City and the majority of the audience should know this if they have watched previous ‘Batman’ films. However, we can also tell this by the darkness of the city as there is always evilness in Gotham. The protagonist in the film is obviously the ‘Batman’ and he is the first character we see in the trailer. However, we see him from an extreme long shot at the top of the building surrounded by darkness which makes the audience think who it is and whether it’s a bad person. Harvey Dent is an important character and he is the youngest District Attorney Gotham has had. He is very important and is in a relationship with Rachel Dawes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQ5U8suTUw0

‘The Joker’ is eye level with the audience, however,he is looking down as if he has more power than us

This shot of ‘The Joker’ is most probably in the prison which we see at one point in the film which shows his evilness once again

Film Poster Analysis

Dark clouds showing danger and darkness

Tagline makes the audience ask why there aren’t any rules. Who’s preventing them?

Symbol of the ‘Batman.’ Did he cause the destruction?

Falling bits of the building shows destruction. What has happened?

Low angle shot shows that the audience looks up to him and he has more power than us. Why so?

Bold, white font contrats with the dark background. This is a form of binary opposition

Dark clothes shows harsh attitude

‘The Batman’s’ facial expression shows seriousness.

‘The Batman’s’ body posture is confident and he also has muscles which show that he is strong and heroic

‘The batman’s’ costuming is dark which is quite strange in the fact that darkness represents evil. The reason for this could be that even though he is a hero and serves justice, he is a wanted man and saves the world in an illegal manner
