    Visitor Information

Welcome to those of you here for the first time. Most Sundays, we have Church School at 10:30 am with our trained teachers. The classroom is located through the door at the front right of the chapel and down the hall; please ask if you need help finding it. The children will join us in church at the Peace and for Communion. All baptized children of any age are wel-come to receive communion.

Please join in the singing! Hymnals are located in the pew and the num-bers are listed in the leaflet. “S” numbered hymns are found in the front of the Hymnal 1982. The Book of Common Prayer may also be found in the rack in front of you.

We are a self-supporting congregation, so when we pass the plate in the middle of the service, please be generous. Today’s collection will support our ministries to the community.

At the communion, God welcomes all to the heavenly banquet. The Episcopal Church offers the sacraments to anyone baptized in any denomi-nation who, through prayer and thoughtful consideration, desires them. Please come to the communion rail to receive the bread and wine, whether you are an Episcopalian or not, or to receive a blessing.

When coming to the rail for communion, please kneel or stand at the rail from right to left until the rail is full. You may receive both the wafer and wine, the wafer only, or may ask for a blessing. Please let the priest know if you need gluten free.

Our priest, Debbie, is available after the service to answer any questions you might have. Please let her know your thoughts about today’s service.

We ask that you sign the guestbook at the entrance of the church. If you want more information, our website is www.gracechurchsalem.org. Our weekly newsletter, called Grace Notes, can be found there. If you wish to receive the newsletter, simply go to the website, open Grace Notes and subscribe.

We hope you find the service meaningful and the embrace of our com-munity inviting.

Thank you for praying with us today.

The Collect of the Day Almighty God, who through your only-begotten Son Jesus Christ over-came death and opened to us the gate of everlasting life: Grant that we, who celebrate with joy the day of the Lord's resurrection, may be raised from the death of sin by your life-giving Spirit; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. The Lessons The people sit. First Lesson Isaiah 25:6-9

On this mountain the LORD of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wines, of rich food filled with mar-row, of well-aged wines strained clear. And he will destroy on this mountain the shroud that is cast over all peoples, the sheet that is spread over all nations; he will swallow up death forever. Then the Lord GOD will wipe away the tears from all faces, and the disgrace of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the LORD has spoken. It will be said on that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, so that he might save us. This is the LORD for whom we have waited; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.

Psalm 118:1-2, 15-16, 21-24 Chant: Charles Villiers Stanford The Second Lesson Acts 10:34-43 Peter began to speak to Cornelius and the other Gentiles: "I truly un-derstand that God shows no partiality, but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him. You know the message he sent to the people of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ--he is Lord of all. That message spread throughout Judea, begin-ning in Galilee after the baptism that John announced: how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power; how he went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. We are witnesses to all that he did both in Judea and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree; but God raised him on the third day and allowed him to appear,

not to all the people but to us who were chosen by God as witnesses, and who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one ordained by God as judge of the living and the dead. All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name." Lector The Word of the Lord. People Thanks be to God.

The Gospel John 20:1-18 Gospeller The Holy Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ according to John. People Glory to you, Lord Christ.

Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magda-lene came to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb. So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, "They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him." Then Peter and the other disciple set out and went toward the tomb. The two were running together, but the other disciple out-ran Peter and reached the tomb first. He bent down to look in and saw the linen wrappings lying there, but he did not go in. Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen wrappings lying there, and the cloth that had been on Jesus' head, not lying with the linen wrappings but rolled up in a place by itself. Then the other disciple, who reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed; for as yet they did not understand the scripture, that he must rise from the dead. Then the disciples returned to their homes. But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb; and she saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had been lying, one at the head and the other at the feet. They said to her, "Woman, why are you weep-ing?" She said to them, "They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him." When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for?" Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, "Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away." Jesus said to her, "Mary!" She turned and

said to him in Hebrew, "Rabbouni!" (which means Teacher). Jesus said to her, "Do not hold on to me, because I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and say to them, `I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'" Mary Mag-dalene went and announced to the disciples, "I have seen the Lord"; and she told them that he had said these things to her.

The Prayers of the People Good Easter People of God, I bid your prayers for Christ’s holy Catholic Church. May it be a beacon of peace, unity and understanding in an often conflicted, divided and confusing world. We are the Body of Christ on earth, may we witness to your love.

I bid your prayers for all peoples and nations throughout the world. May our leaders strive for freedom and respect for each and every human be-ing. May we find a way to bring an end to the conflicts that surround us, that all may be safe wherever they may be. We are the Body of Christ in the world, may we make peace. I bid your prayers for all in need of wholeness, especially those on our prayer list, and those whom we name, either silently or aloud. The People add their intentions and intercessions. We are the Body of Christ to a broken world, may we bring Christ’s healing love.

I bid your prayers for all those saints who have gone before, especially those listed in our Easter Memorials. We are the Body of Christ in this time, may we one day be in God’s kingdom.

I bid your prayers of thanksgiving for this parish of faith. May we be guided in our life at Grace Church, learn how to bring others to Christ, seek forgiveness, be available to one another, strive for unity and concord. The people add their thanksgivings and hopes. We are the Body of Christ to one another, may we seek and serve Christ in our neighbors.

Easter is a Season Jesus didn’t just rise on Easter Day and then disappear! The risen Christ appeared to followers for 40 days. Whether walking with them to Emmaus, or appearing to them in the upper room (not once, but twice to satisfy Thomas’ questions), or on the beach at breakfast, Jesus still had much to accomplish after Easter Day. Why not come and hear these stories as we consider how Jesus still appears to us in our walks, in our gatherings and when we are at our daily tasks? Easter is a season: come and realize the new life flourishing in you!
