This month we are privileged to be

working with our youth volunteer as

he peruses the President’s Volunteer

Service Award. The goal is for Rafael

to plan and execute a project that is

worthy of the honor.

As we wrap up a joyous 4th of July celebration, we

will continue in our patriotic spirit with a trip to our

Texas Capital in Austin, TX. On August 12th join

me on an educational day to the LBJ Presidential

Library. We will experience the last 100 years of

American history and explore

the lives and stories of the last

20 US Presidents. We will

end the tour by visiting a

replica of the Oval Office.

Before leaving Austin, we

will spend time visiting over

lunch. Hope to see y'all there.

OUR TEAM is happy to the gills!

The employee recognition program is meant to recognize,

reward, and motivate multiple employees for doing great

things here on our Independence Hill campus.

This summer baby, born June 8th, is a long way from his

hometown in Guam. Though he is freshly out of high school, he

has already visited many places including Mexico and Hawaii.

Growing up, this mystery employee

was always outside. He remembers

his love of playing T-Ball and

paintballing, despite being hit in the

eye with a paintball. His adventurous

spirit is what drives his dreams of

learning to fly a plane, riding an

elephant and one day becoming a

very distinguished business owner of

a popular drink, Boba Tea, café. This

mystery employee’s ambitions may

be high, but his hobbies are quite

down to earth. He enjoys spending

his hard earned money on shopping

trips, going out to eat and socializing

with just about anyone. This guy can

Mystery Resident

Exercising Couldn’t Be More Fun

She was the oldest of four children born on May 3rd in Wichita Falls, Texas, this military brat is no stranger to

Texas. With her father being a pilot in the Airforce, her family moved quite a bit to different states in the U.S.

and parts of Europe including Germany for four years. Some of her most fond memories of her childhood

come from her family’s time in Germany. Going with her two younger sisters to the girl scouts camp in

Switzerland and visiting all the gorgeous historical landmarks around Germany on her father’s down time.

Since her father’s hobby included Ham Radios, he would sometimes hear S-O-S calls giving him the ability to

drop off the needed supplies. This is where her interest in ham radios sparked and before long she was the

youngest girl, at the age of twelve, to earn her general class license for amateur radio at 15 words a minute

with her very own call sign, K5QYS. After graduating from MacArthur High School right here in San

Antonio, this month’s mystery gal went on to San Antonio College to study education. It was there that she

met her future husband and the father of her two wonderful sons. Though she put a hold on her studies in order

to care for her two children, she returned to UTSA when her youngest son was starting college, and finished

her degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. With her degree she completed her

dream of becoming a teacher. Certified to teach Kinder through Eighth

grade, this mystery resident enjoyed every minute of her twelve year

teaching career. So much so, that she still keeps in touch with some of her

students to this day. Though teaching was her passion, this mystery resident

was actually a very competitive tennis player. Competing in tournaments all

around the country with her husband, she received multiple trophies for her

matches. She has always been a strong Christian and was even able to visit

the Holy Land and Egypt which was an experience as breathtaking as her

cruise to France. Nowadays, she spends her time crafting creatively, singing

in the choir and enjoying every second of being a grandmother to her two

wonderful grandchildren. She loves all the comradery here at Independence

Hill and is always wishing well to those she sees in the halls and at the

activities. Can you guess who this month’s mystery resident is? Last Months Mystery Resident: Mary
