KKNPP 3&4 (2X1000 MW) Launch

Sanction of New Projects:

10 indigenous 700 MW PHWRsin fleet mode with equityfunding of the project by theGoI on an average of Rs. 2100crore per annum.

KKNPP 5&6 (2X1000 MW) atKudankulam with Russiancooperation with equity fundingby GoI.

On completion of projects under construction & sanctioned, capacity will reach 22480 MW by 2031 – about 5 times the capacity of 4780 MW in 2014.

Record Achievements of NPP

• Operation– Record generation of 14252 Crore Units of commercial electricity

generation (14709 Crore Units including infirm power) during 2014-15 to2017-18 (upto Jan 2018).

– Continuous run of 765 days by RAPS 5 - second longest by PHWR in theworld.

– Continuous runs of more than a year 25 times by Indian reactors.

• International Cooperation:– Assisting Bangladesh establish their nuclear power programme – training

professionals in nuclear science & technology.

Nuclear Fuel Production : A World Record

DAE set a world record of1512 metric tonnes of fuelbundles production in 2016-17 along with other specialmaterials.

NFC has achieved highest ever annual UO2 production -1100MT till date and is expected to achieve 1250MT by March2018 (50% higher than previous year)

Innovation in HealthCare Technologies

Developed process to extract Caesium 137 isotope from high level liquid nuclear waste for making glass pencils used for blood irradiation.

India is the only country to have this technology in commercial domain.

Affordable Cancer Care for One and All

Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital- Sangrur, Punjab was commissioned in January 2015.

Upgradation/taking over by DAE following hospitals;

1. Dr. B. Borooah Cancer Institute, Guwahati.

2. Indian Railways Cancer Institute & Research Centre, Varanasi.

Construction initiated for following hospitals;1. Mahamana Pt. Madan Mohan Malaviya Cancer Centre, BHU campus,

Varanasi.2. Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Aganampudi,

Visakhapatnam.3. Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital, Mullanpur,Punjab( being pursued).

LIGO-India

Laser Interferometric Gravitational-wave

Predicted in Einstein's General Theory of Relativity, gravitational wavesare propagating disturbances in the curvature of spacetime caused bythe motions of matter. Gravitational waves do not travel "through"spacetime as such the fabric of spacetime Itself is oscillating

LIGO-India received in-principle approval from GoI.

DAE-DST hree lead institutes are participating (IPR, RRCAT and IUCAA).

ASTROSTAT

ASTROSTAT launched on September 28, 2015

ASTROSAT is the first Indian satellite dedicated to Astronomy.

TIFR has developed 3 of the 5 major instruments on Astrosat:• Large Area X-ray• Proportional Counters (LAXPC)• Soft X-ray Telescope (SXT )• Cadmium-Zinc-Telluride Imager

(CZTI).

DAE has so far released 42 varieties of seeds forpulses and edible oil. Additional 5 varieties of seedsare expected to be released by this year.
