of the Public and one day he obtains an invitation to the grand ball with rich people. The women is always upset

about her poverty and embarrassed to go to the ball because of she had not any good dresses and necklace to

wear. Her husband, who always tries to make her happy gave his all money dress and advised to lend jewellery

    from her friend Madame Frosteir.

That night Mrs Mathilde Loises was the most beautiful, attractive gorgeous woman which almost everyone wanted

to dance with her. Unfortunately, the necklace is lost amd the couple go to great lengths to find it. They eventually

gave up and decide to pay for it although as they see the price was too high. The couple take a huge loan and

replace the diamond to Mrs Jeanne Foriester.

In effect, they live in poverty for several years. After this long years of discomfort Mathilda meets Madame

Foriester and told her the truth about the necklace and how she had to suffer for it. She was surprised when she

hears the story and feels sorry for her as she tells the necklace was fake.

Kino and Jiya are good friends growing up in a small Japanese village. Kino and his family are rice farmers who

live high up in the hills. Jiya and his family are fishermen by trade and live below the hills on the beach. One day,

while working in the rice fields, Kino and his father notice a great deal of smoke rising from a volcano 20 miles

away. Changes in the sky and ocean make the villagers nervous as they watch, trying to protect their families.

The sound of a great bell from a palace below warns the villagers of danger and encourages them to come within

its wall for safety. Some heed the warning but many stay close to their homes. Jiyas family orders him to flee to

the palace for protection. Jiya instead runs up the hills to his friends home. Kino and Jiya watch the commotion inthe village below when suddenly the ocean turns angry and a giant tidal wave sweeps up onto the beach, taking

houses and people with it. Jiya watches in horror as his family is swept away. Kinos family commits to care for

Jiya and raise him as their own. Before fully recovering, the wealthy owner of the palace comes to visit him. He

tells Kinos father that he would like to take Jiya as his own son and give him an education. Knowing that this is a

great opportunity for the grieving Jiya, Kinos father encourages him to visit the palace to see the opportunities

that would be his. Jiya obeys and visits the old man. After touring the grounds, he then tells the palace

owner that his choice is to stay with Kinos family. The old man is irritated at Jiyas response and tells Jiya he

could have everything he needs. Jiya respectfully tells him that he already has a home on the farm. Jiya returns

to the hills and grows from a boy to a man. He learns to live with his loss with the kind help of Kinos family. He is

eventually drawn back to the ocean where he longs to be a fisherman like his fathers before him. Then facing his

greatest fear, Jiya builds a home on the beach for him and his new wife (Kinos kind sister) .

Daedalus was a highly respected and talented Athenian artisan descendent from the royal family of Cecrops, the mythical first king

of Athens. He was known for his skill as an architect, sculpture, and inventor, and he produced many famous works. Despite hisself-confidence, Daedalus once committed a crime of envy against Talus, his nephew and apprentice. Talus, who seemed destined

to become as great an artisan as his uncle Daedalus, was inspired one day to invent the saw after having seen the way a snake

used its jaws. Daedalus, momentarily stricken with jealousy, threw Talus off of the Acropolis. For this crime, Daedalus was exiled to

Crete and placed in the service of King Minos, where he eventually had a son, Icarus, with the beautiful Naucrate, a mistress-slave

    of the King.

Minos called on Daedalus to build the famous Labyrinth in order to imprison the dreaded Minotaur. The Minotaur was a monster with

the head of a bull and the body of a man. He was the son of Pasiphae, the wife of Minos, and a bull that Poseidon had sent to Minos

as a gift. Minos was shamed by the birth of this horrible creature and resolved to imprison the Minotaur in the Labyrinth where it fed

on humans, which were taken as "tribute" by Minos and sacrificed to the Minotaur in memory of his fallen son Androgenos.

Theseus, the heroic King of Athens, volunteered himself to be sent to the Minotaur in the hopes of killing the beast and ending the

"human tribute" that his city was forced to pay Minos. When Theseus arrived to Crete, Ariadne, Minos's daughter, fell in love with

him and wished to help him survive the Minotaur. Daedalus revealed the mystery of the Labyrinth to Ariadne who in turn advised

Theseus, thus enabling him to slay the Minotaur and escape from the Labyrinth. When Minos found out what Daedalus had done he

was so enraged that he imprisoned Daedalus & Icarus in the Labyrinth themselves.

Daedalus conceived to escape from the Labyrinth with Icarus from Crete by constructing wings and then flying to safety. He built the

wings from feathers and wax, and before the two set off he warned Icarus not to fly too low lest his wings touch the waves and get

wet, and not too high lest the sun melt the wax. But the young Icarus, overwhelmed by the thrill of flying, did not heed his father's

warning, and flew too close to the sun whereupon the wax in his wings melted and he fell into the sea. Daedalus escaped to Sicily

and Icarus' body was carried ashore by the current to an island then without a name. Heracles came across the body and

recognized it, giving it burial where today there still stands a small rock promontory jutting out into the Aegean Sea, and naming the

island and the sea around it after the fallen Icarus.

A young traveler feos stops for the night with a family that lives in a "notch" next to a mountain. They make friendly conversation,

interrupted once by the sound of a wagon carrying other travelers (who pause but do not go inside, continuing on with their journey)

and then by the sound of rocks falling from the slope. The father reassures the visitor that rockfalls happen regularly without causing

harm, but that the family has a "safe place" to go in the event of a serious collapse.

The group carries on with their friendly conversation. The visitor acknowledges that he is young and has no accomplishments of

note, but hopes he will have "achieved my destiny" before he dies and then "I shall have built my monument!" The father expresses

the wish for a more humble legacy, and the aged grandmother makes a request for her dying day. The outdoor weather

    corresponds to his mixed emotions.

Suddenly, they are alarmed by the sound of a much larger avalanche. They scream in fear of "The Slide!" and bolt outside for their

safe place. But they are all caught up in the rockslide and killed, while the house is completely undamaged. Their bodies are swept

away and never found. The narrator notes that some who see the house later think there is evidence of a visitor that night, but

others disagree - the young man has in fact died without leaving any trace of his life.
