Drama is a form of literature meant to be preformed in front of an audience. The characters’ dialogue and actions tell the story. The written form of a drama is known as a script. The script includes dialogue, a cast of characters, and stage directions that give instructions about performing the drama.

Annelies Marie Frank was born in Frankfurt, Germany, on June 12, 1929.

Although they were Germans, they were Jews.

Jews faced cruel treatment and persecution in their own country, by the Nazis.

Adolf Hitler was the leader of the Nazis.

Holland Hitler blamed the Jews and

Gypsies for all the problems in Germany

In 1933, Otto Frank, Anne’s father moved to Amsterdam, Holland trying to escape the Nazis

In 1940, Germany invaded Holland and the Franks were trapped in the country

On July 6, 1942, Anne and her family: father, mother, and sister, moved into the “Secret Annex”, a small attic area hidden above Otto’s office.

They were joined by Otto’s business partner, his wife, and his 16-year old son, Peter.

Later, Mr. Dussel, a dentist, joined the group

In her diary Anne described the group’s life in hiding and their constant fear of being discovered.

They stayed hidden for over two years, hoping that the Allied forces will win the war and they could end the nightmare.

He was the father of Bep. Johan had worked since 1937 as a warehouse manager for Otto Frank. He was the only one of the warehouse staff who knew about the people in the hiding place. He kept an eye on things and because he was so handy, he was asked to hammer the bookcase that hid the access to the Secret Annex. In 1943, he became seriously ill. He had stomach cancer and can no longer work. Willem van Maaren succeeded him as warehouse supervisor.

He took over as warehousemanager in 1943 when JohanVoskuijl fell seriously ill. He’s unaware of the people hiding inthe building, but he's an inquisitive type and became suspicious. The people in theSecret Annex noticed that he'ssetting traps in the warehouse.He placed papers on the corners of tables so that they fell off if you walk past. He was a suspect in two investigations into the betrayal of the people in the Annex, in 1948 and 1963. But no conclusive proof ever came to light.
