The director begins the video with medium wide shot and focusing on the use of light. The source of light helps to build the impression when the first time the character has been out from her mother’s womb to start her journey of life. It is continue to slow down pan shot and brought out the changes of the object which is the baby's fingertips. In this shot, the director is using the Rule of third supported with wide shot of the baby's body shadow to explain the childhood of the character. The moment refers to the idea where anything seemed to be fine, life were much simpler, easier, and full of happiness. Using saturated color tone, the director visualized the audience the past of the main character of this video. Continuing the video with a picture of the sky, the directors used another technique that is used by the overlapping a sunny weather in a wide shot with a big white flower on top of the clear blue sky. The director tried to conveys the idea of the flower, which symbolize the idea of love, happiness, and purity from the color of the flower itself. Through different textures: the fluffy white clouds and the flower matched very well. Both of them contrasted with the blue sky. The flowers are also blocking the light which came from above, made the flower looks half like shadow. There are some textures which included in the shot : the clouds, flower, leaves ,and the sky vibrant . Shot of light green grass which are moving freely and above shot of tree that were caused by the wind symbolized peace and calmness of mind and soul of the character. The movements of the leaves indicating the automatic movement, which resulted by the wind. Wind itself indicating the force for each individual to follow trends which are currently bugging in the society. As what we’ve discussed this trend such as fashion, music, and life style.

Using the theme ‘Alienation from the society’ the director of this video expressed the idea by only included one performer in this video. The character is a girl who loves ballet dance. Ballet movements symbolizing beauty and gentleness that each and every person have. Ballet dance are also supporting another theme which is ‘Role of Art’ with idea that dance are used by people to express their feelings through movements . This genre of dance is very hard to master and requires much practice, it is demanding for precise and highly formalized set steps and gestures. Furthermore, this idea is aligned in a way, how society expects people in all factors: education, family, relationship, social status. Through out my research during the previous Personal Project, I also found out something about the use of classic music in Ballet. Most of ballet movement are categorized to be light, graceful and fluid. Creative works of ballet could be fit in the three categories of art which are well known in society: dance, music , and drama. Most of ballet concert used to be in form drama or role-play such as Tchaikovsky's most successful play in Renaissance era – The Swan Lake. In Romantic Ballet, most of the story were focusing on spirit of women who enslaved the hearts and senses of mortal men and made it impossible for them to live happily in the real world.(source: Wikipedia/Romantic_Ballet) Shooting the ballet dancer shown to be holding the flower, this refers the idea that she is holding her love, feelings, dream, and her happiness : the things that seems nice from the out side (smell, look beautiful). The reflection of the wall when the ballerina is dancing was taken with the below shot to show her reflections on the wall. This shot are used to explain two ideas. Firstly, it is showing that most artists who could make great show or a great piece of art seems to be bigger than themselves in the outside. Looking from the Inside? the ballerina herself have those secrets and personal issue that she is struggling with. I also combined my idea with Salvador Dali's, idea of dream and woman. Last year I went to his exhibition and most of his piece using the theme of dream, felinity, and secrets which symbolize in his sculptures and paintings. Second, the reflection on the wall symbolize the idea that sometimes ourselves seeing the thing that we love(dream) is the same thing that separated us from society. From the other point of view, other people could also see that our dream could also be the thing that make us distinctive, strange, ‘special’ . It’s make sense that we make ourself being alienated from the society.

The video continues with below shot using the rule of third, the director placed the square mirror to shows something inside from the middle of the door. The door symbolized an entrance way into someone's personal place where bathroom is a small room or space where we usually feel lonely and afraid for being alone. These spaces are appeared where we usually the battle between the heart and the brain happened. For me personally, as a teenager I struggled up on choosing between what I should do and what I love to do. There's something that couldn't be discover that in fact, how society demands us to do something that we don't like to unconsciously effecting the way we make consequential choices in life. Deciding major university or choosing a job have been the most common issue. The video strengthen with the next two scenes which are when the glass suddenly broken right on when the music reached into the drum part which was also combined with the lyrics 'as your crawl thin ice'.The director mixed the sound of the broken glass with the sound of beating the drum in the moment when the sung part was done. To be noticed, most rock bands are using drum as their essential instrument in their works. The director observed how hard the drummer hits the drum, it is expressing the anger, sorrow and vexation which continuously brought up to violence acts. Through out the original movie (the Wall), hammers are a major symbol that possessing both creative and destructive powers, simultaneously beneficial and brutal. The same hammer that constructs a house has the power to tear it down. Similarly, this idea was combined by the director to show the violence and self-breakdown of the ballerina. Glass represents something that beautiful in shape, clear, clean and fragile in the same time. The director used the same setting, style and medium shot with the scene in the beginning of the video. Now the character are losing her happiness, she decided to dropped out from the path she have chosen. When the ballerina make the spinning movement it shows her obscure and burden.

“ IN TH IS SENSE, L I V ING L I FE IS L I KE WALK ING A TH IN W IRE BETWEEN TWO

POLAR BUT EQUALLY DESTRUCT I VE FORCES ; TO L I VE , ONE MUST E ITHER SKATE OVER THE TH IN I CE CARRY ING THE PERSONAL

BURDENS OF THE PAST OR BREAK THROUGH THE I CE AND DROWN IN

SELF-DESTRUCT ION”

Quick shot of the ballerina spinning where she first practicing her movement is showing her confusedness and how things have changed 180 degrees from how it should be after she grew up. Something that used to be so happy, easy and seems fine now could be something that impossible to be solved yet it is unexplainable by words. The war is happening inside herself. Those problem automatically took of her attention from people around her. This scene proofed that it is make sense with the theme from our previous unit (OfMice and Man) dream VS reality could linking with the idea of alienation of society. The role of Art in society could be something that brought significant effect, ignorance into an individual. Ignorance then could bring violence. The words ‘Fuck Life’ which written on the fogged mirror in the bathroom shows her situation where everything is so complicated and affecting every aspect in her life. The reflection of the wall which reflected from the car’s mirror showing the same thing as Alan Parker’s idea from the real movie: each of these heavy burdens is symbolized by being “another brick in the wall”. A girl which floating in the water presenting her thoughts and feelings: her situation is very uncleared even she is hating her life, supported by the words in the wall. In the middle of everything, she is not moving toward her dreams neither away from it. A quick shot where the flowers are shown and disappear showing the happiness that are just fading away. All of them are shown in quick motions to make even more dramatic effect As the ending, the director used a wide shot of the light which was first shown in the beginning of the video. It is taken from below which make the perspective of the light looks bigger and wider. With different variety, it stayed for several seconds unlike other shots in those last clips. This idea brought the audience back to the cycles of the wall. The rewarding system ( meat and pudding) works the same way like The Wall : building up and tear it down. It cycles from the end and back to the beginning: from the darkness into the light and back from the light into the darkness.
