Gathering Prelude PSALM 150 Haglund

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord

Praise God in his sanctuary Praise him in his mighty heavens Praise him for his acts of power Praise him for his greatness

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord

Praise God with the trumpet sound Praise him with the harp and lyre Praise him with a tambourinePraise him with a joyful dance

CALL AND RESPONSE

The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me;he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the brokenhearted,to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to the prisoners;to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn;to provide for those who mourn in Zion— to give them a garland instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a faint spirit. They will be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, to display his glory. They shall build up the ancient ruins, they shall raise up the former devastations;they shall repair the ruined cities, the devastations of many generations. For as the earth brings forth its shoots, and as a garden causes what is sown in it to spring up,

so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring up before all the nations.— from Isaiah 61

CONFESSION OF SIN

We confess that we have sinned in thought, word and deed. We have forgotten You, our gra-cious God, and we have vainly imagined that all our blessings are produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own. Forgive us. Have mercy on us according to your good and perfect will, and conform us to your image. Amen.

WORDS OF COMFORT & ASSURANCE OF PARDON

The Lord delights in showing mercy; and his grace is sufficient for you. May he draw us to himself, forgive us our sins, and strengthen us in our inner being, with power through his Spirit

O LOVE THAT WILL NOT LET ME GOMiner

O Love that will not let me goI rest my weary soul in theeI give thee back the life I oweThat in thine ocean depths its flowMay richer, fuller be

O light that followest all my wayI yield my flickering torch to theeMy heart restores its borrowed rayThat in thy sunshines blaze its dayMay brighter, fairer be

O Joy that seekest me through painI cannot close my heart to theeI trace the rainbow through the rainAnd feel the promise is not vainThat morn shall tearless be

O Cross that liftest up my headI dare not ask to fly from theeI lay in dust life’s glory deadAnd from the ground there blossoms redLife that shall endless be

UNDERSTANDING OUR FAITH.THE LORD’S PRAYER.

Q. 127. What is the sixth petition?

A.And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

That is:In ourselves we are so weakthat we cannot stand even for a moment. 1

Moreover, our sworn enemies –the devil, 2

the world, 3

and our own flesh 4 –do not cease to attack us.Will you, therefore, uphold and strengthen usby the power of your Holy Spirit,so that in this spiritual war 5

we may not go down to defeat, but always firmly resist our enemies, until we finally obtainthe complete victoryAbide in me as I abide in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing. — John 15: 2 - 4

Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seek-ing someone to devour. — 1 Peter 5:8

“If the world hates you, be aware that it hated me before it hated you. If you belonged to the world, the world would love you as its own. Because you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world—therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you, ‘Servants are not greater than their mas-ter.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute

you; if they kept my word, they will keep yours also. But they will do all these things to you on account of my name, because they do not know him who sent me. — John 15:18-21

For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. Galatians 5:17

Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” — Matthew 26:41

Be on guard, keep awake. For you do not know when the time will come. —Mark 13:33

No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. — 1 Corinthians 10:13

so that he may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father, at the com-ing of our Lord Jesus with all his saints. — 1 Thessalonians 3:13

Prayer for TruthJesus, you claim to be the way, the truth, and the life. Grant that I might be undaunted by the cost of following you as I consider the reasons for doing so. If what you claim is true, please guide me, teach me, and open to me the reality of who you are. Give me an understanding of you that is coherent, convincing, and that leads to the life that you promise. Amen.

Prayer of BeliefLord Jesus, I admit that I am weaker and more sinful that I ever before believed, but through you I am more loved and accepted than I ever dared hope. I thank you for paying my debt, bearing my punishment on the cross, and offering forgiveness and new life. Knowing that you have been raised from the dead, I turn from my sin and receive you as Savior and Lord. Amen.

Prayer for those Struggling with SinLord Jesus, grant that I may see in you the fulfillment of all my needs, and may turn from every false satisfaction to feed on you, the true and living bread. Enable me to lay aside the sin that clings so closely, and run with perseverance the race set before me, looking to you, the pioneer and perfecter of my faith. Amen.

LORD’S TABLE

Christ has died: Christ is risen:

Christ will come again.

Communion or the Lord’s Supper, is the family meal of Christians. We invite all followers of Jesus Christ to participate. If you are not a fol-lower of Jesus or are not prepared to share in the meal, we encourage you to spend this time in prayer. We hope this time is helpful to you as you consider your relationship with Jesus Christ and with his people, the church.

Guidance for communion:We practice communion by coming forward and receiving the elements. Whenever you are ready you may come forward receive a piece of bread from the loaf and dip into the white chalice which is wine or the green chalice which is grape juice. If for any reason you are not able to come forward our servers will come back to you. Simply raise your hand and they will be glad to serve you.

Members of our mercy team available to pray with you or for you during this time. They are by the outside doors at the rear of the Sanctuary.

Our Purpose:

Together, Living Out the Gospel in the Heart of the City.

Seven Core Values

GospelThe gospel is the good news that in Jesus’ life, death and resurrection, God by grace rescues and draws men and women into fellowship with himself and with one another. Through the gospel all creation is restored so that we will enjoy this fellowship forever. Through the gospel God’s Kingdom has come and is coming. Therefore we are committed to a life together that is permeated with expectant, enduring, joyful hope.

Bible The Scriptures of the Old and New Testament are God’s inspired, authoritative revelation. All of the scriptures present Christ and the gospel to draw us to worship and make Him known. We are committed to being a learning community, diligently studying all of the scriptures and allowing God to transform all of life.

Worshipful In response to the good news of the gospel, we worship God as King and Jesus as Savior and Lord in all of our daily activity. This culminates in coming together on Sunday — gathered, renewed and sent out by the Holy Spirit.

PrayerfulWe regularly and expectantly engage in coversation with God, both personally and as a group. We are committed to complete dependence on God in prayer for all of our life and mission together.

MissionalThe Bible is about the mission of God – bringing love, peace and justice to a broken world through the work of Christ. Therefore “missions” is way more than a church department but rather what God and life is all about. We are committed to calling individuals to respond to the gospel in repentance, faith and conversion. We are committed to pointing individuals both locally and globally to Christ by acts of justice and mercy. We use all the gifts and talents given to the church and seek to partner with other like-minded congregations and ministries.

International/Inter-Generational The gospel is best expressed and demonstrated through a diverse community who believe, embrace and practice it together. We are committed to ethnic groups, families and generations worshipping and serving together.

HospitableHospitality is a response of love and gratitude for God’s love and welcome to us. As individuals and a church family we are committed to the gracious opening of our hearts, homes and lives to others, especially the needy and strangers.
