Importance of the First 1000 Days

• A pivotal time in a child’s development

• Physical / Social / Emotional

• First experiences of how the world works

• Optimal time for early intervention

• Auditory, visual, language areas and frontal lobe are most active in synapse development

• Most vulnerable time for child maltreatment

• Approximately 50% of children in the dependency system are birth – 5yrs.

• A time of the most opportunity and vulnerability of the developing brain

• Emotional experiences become embedded in the developing brain’s architecture

• Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) Study links the relationship between adverse early childhood experiences and physical & emotional health problems in adulthood
