Your platform is the things you think are most important.

They may be things you like and support or things you think

are important to change and improve.

How to determine what is part of your platform:

1. Are there any things you think need to be changed in our classroom that are really important?

2. What do you think is an important value in our classroom?

3. What are important things we do in our classroom?

4. Pick the top 3 things YOU think are the most important part of our classroom.

The Three Branches of Government

The Executive Branch is headed by the President.

• He lives in the White House, in Washington, D.C.

Responsibilities of the Executive Branch

• To see that the laws passed by Congress are enforced

• To suggest laws to Congress that the President and /or his party would like to see passed.

The Legislative Branch

• This Branch is divided into two parts.

– The Senate

– The House of Representatives

They meet at the Capitol.

• Makes the laws.– They may pass laws the President

recommends.

– They may decide themselves that a law needs to be made.

The Judicial Branch

• The Judicial Branch consists of the courts.

• The highest court is the United States Supreme Court.The Judicial Branch makes sure that the laws are carried out fairly.

Each Branch Can

• The other Branches.– The President can

veto a law passed by Congress.

– Congress can pass the law again, over the President’s veto.

The Supreme Court can decide if the laws passed by Congress and

signed by the President are Constitutional.
