An instrument akin to the
Modern Harmonic Alto recorder
with an innovative, cool design,
strong tone, and built-in adap-
tation as an electric recorder.
The electrifyingly cool recorder

”When I began to work with the Elody, I found playing it acoustically very enjoya-
ble and beautiful so that I used it for the impending project ’Symphonic Selections’
in which Spark joined forces with the orchestra of the West German Radio (WDR
Rundfunkorchester) to play the ’Wind Waker’ concert programme in the Cologne
Philharmonia. The Elody fulfilled all expectations in sound, pitch, volume and
versatility, and was also an exciting eye-catcher.“

The outer shape of the Elody is not round
but has a curved, wider surface.
This enables a more ergonomic
hand position on the instrument:
dynamic fingerings and glissandi
become much easier to play.

”I have around three hundred different recorders
at home – so I am not really short of instruments.
But something has always been missing: the Elody,
a recorder that can hold its ground against any
electric guitar by virtue of its power, timbre and the
unique design. This dream has come true after four
years of developmental work.“

Thumb rest: an innovative thumb
support made from soft synthetic rubber
is an integral part of every Elody.
The skin-friendly material provides the
right hand thumb with a surprisingly
stable grip without disturbing agility.

”When I first held the Elody in my
hand I knew immediately that it was
a really cool new development. The
range of possibilities that this recorder
offers are just amazing.“

Colour and motif design
The designs of Elody are prepared
by hand using an airbrush tech-
nique. There may, therefore, be
slight variations in motif detail.
The Elody uses the same playing
technique as a traditional acoustic re-
corder: familiar fingerings and blowing
techniques can be applied right from
the start. In addition, its design as an
harmonic recorder offers a range of up
to three octaves, as well as a stable and
powerful sound. The built-in pickup
turns the Elody into an electro-acoustic
instrument: connected effects units en-
sure not only a rich and powerful sound
(from low to high volume) but can also
realise a diverse and variable range of
sounds according to the player’s wishes.

Interface
There are many different ways of
playing the Elody as an electric recorder.
Here we present some of the simplest
and most effective set-ups that are also
used by electric guitarists:
• Connect the Elody to an interface
using any sound software (available
as an app on smartphones, tablets
or PCs) so that it can be heard via
loudspeakers.
• Connect the Elody to a multi-effect
processor (or to a series of effects
units) and from there to a loud-
speaker.
• Connect the Elody directly to a
modelling amp.

Block from Synpor-wood composite: This
special block provides the instrument with a
new musical ‚durability‘: the core of the block
consists of an artificial imitation wood product
– synpor, that absorbs the moisture of breath
condensation without swelling. The synpor
core is embedded into a solid, naturally grown,
cedar wood shell.
