THE PUBLISHER

I think this is my favorite issue yet! We have teamed up with the Nightclub & Bar Show in Vegas this year again as well as the Ultra Mu-sic Festival in Miami. As the Publisher, I am lucky enough to head out to Vegas and Miami this month to experience these events.

This electronic issue features the top DJ’s in the world for the EDM genre, in which most of them will be at Ultra. We will have NiteGuide issues inside the VIP gift bags and cabanas at Ultra as well as at the front when you walk in. We even have a select few DJ’s signing this issue and giving them to fans as a collective piece to keep.

I went to Ultra last year to check it out. It was a two day event and was one of the wildest events I have ever been to! This year, Ultra has expanded to three days and NiteGuide is proud to be one of the official marketing part-ners. We will covering Ultra and featuring it in the April issue.

I am also excited to be attending the Night-club & Bar show in Vegas this month. Imag-ine a whole convention full of free alcohol from around the world. This could get dangerous, but I think I can handle it.

THE CREATIVE DIRECTOR

March is an amazing month! My sisters birth-

day, St. Patrick’s Day and the largest music fes-

tival in the U.S., Ultra Music Festival.

For St. Patrick’s Day we have put together a list

of delicious dishes I highly suggest you try. We

have search high and low for the best dishes

in Southern California and we are sure not to

disappoint you.

With Ultra Music Festival right around the cor-ner, I can’t help but be anxious as we will be out there enjoying it with the NiteGuide staff. In this issue, we have included the ‘official guide’ to everything you need to know for Ultra. You will find interviews with top DJ’s and a survival guide with tips from our Ultra veterans. Enjoy!

Nicole LloydDirector of Operations

CONTRIBUTORSThis months fea-tured contributor for NiteGuide is the Creative Director, Nicole Lloyd. A Flor-ida native, Nicole helped make the March “Electronic Music” issue come

alive, keeping home in mind. With her hard work ethic, she viewed the issue as a labor of love, and strived to make this issue one that would make her home state proud. Nicole and the NiteGuide staff will be traveling to The Ultra Music Festival in Miami to experience this massive event first hand. There will be 5,000 issues distributed for the first time ever in Florida. Nicole’s nightlife background stems from working as a go-go dancer, cock-tail waitress and even a ‘Circ X’ performer at events around the world. As you flip through this month’s issue, you will see Nicole’s con-cepts and devotion that has been put into it. We would like to thank Nicole for all of her hard work that she has put into NiteGuide and be-ing a part of the executive team!

WHAT’S HOT FOR MARCH

For The Boys:After seeing bouts of color on the runway for wom-

en, menswear is going in the opposite direction.

Simple, rich blues joined simple blacks and grays.

Military-inspired tailoring was popular, as well as

tailored pants, square-shouldered suit jackets, A-

lined button down shirts and matching skinny ties.

For The AdvenTure seeker:Let the adventurer in you have its day

with a trip to paddle board in Malibu

(Malibulongboards.com), Trapeze

School in Santa Monica (http://losange-

les.trapezeschool.com), or Hang Gliding

in the South Bay at Dockweiler Beach

(windsports.com). Live a little!

For The Techie:Everyone is talking about the Motorola

Matrix 4G. It’s an Android 2.2 smart-

phone with a dual-core 1 Ghz processor,

1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, a “qHD”

display, a fingerprint recognizer and a

huge 1930 mAh battery, all in a compact

10.9mm-thick case.

Also look out for the Motorola Zoom.

The tablet that rivals the ipad, Motorola

recently revealed four planned devices:

the MZ600, the MZ601, the MZ603 and

the MZ604. All four will sport the same

hardware except for their mobile Internet

connections.

For The drinkers:Pay homage to ole’ St. Patrick with the

drink of…you guessed it, green beer.

For The LAdies:Makeup: Check out new products featuring cashmere extract, such as Physi-

cian’s Formula Cashmere Wear Ultra Smoothing Bronzer (14.00 at drugstores).

The natural protein forms a light film that prevents moisture from escaping,

leaving your skin soft as your sultry cashmere sweater.

Fashion: With New York fashion week behind us, the runways saw lots of

throwbacks to the 70’s, bright cheery yellows and sensible styles. In runway

hairstyles, Side swept bangs made an appearance, as did soft buns.

INDUSTRY MOVERS & SHAKERS

With an affinity for hip hop and house, DJ

G-Roy, aka Jason Guillory, shared with Nite-

Guide his favorite gig to date, why San Diego

is the place to be, and what to expect from

his musical enterprises in 2011.

NiteGuideMagazine: What was your first

experience touching tables?

G-ROY: I used to listen to my brother play

records he would bring back from record

stores in the U district of Seattle. He would

throw them on our stepdads super old

school turntable and try to scratch with one

record. DJ Greyboy - Freestylin was one that

sticks out in my mind from that time. Once I

was in college in San Diego, I would go over

to any friends house that had turntables until

I could buy my own.

NGM: What’s your favorite gig to date?

G-ROY: My favorite gig to date would have

to be one of my dates at On Broadway. This

was the height of electronic music for me.

But honestly I still enjoy each and every time

I DJ. Every gig offers different experiences,

and you cannot buy experience.

NGM: You’re based in San Diego, do you

consider it your hometown?

G-ROY: San Diego is an amazing city that

has grown in leaps and bounds in terms of

nightlife as of late. Fluxx just won the best

new nightclub award, and many other spots

are bringing in top level talent on a weekly

basis. On any given weekend you can find

a super chill lounge to hang out with some

friends and have a great time, or you can

wild out at Fluxx, Sting or Voyuer. It’s really

up to you. We also have many talented local

DJs who hold their own against some of the

biggest traveling guys.

NGM: What can we expect from you in

2011?

G-ROY: In 2011 I will be working on my

record label Fortune Music (fortune421.

com) and getting my own productions roll-

ing again. I have a monthly mix series called

Pura Vida you can download from my web-

site (www.djgroy.com) and via podcast.

When she’s behind the bar at Johnny’s Sa-

loon in Huntington Beach, California, it’s all

fun and games. When she really needs to

get serious about livening things up, it’s all

about buying shots. This month’s featured

bartender is Bernadette Macias. Originally

from Southern California, Bernadette spent

some time in Holland before returning and

starting her career as a bartender and model.

She is perhaps best known for her work as

a spokesmodel for a number of SoCal life-

style brands including Sullen, No Fear, and

Iron Fist Clothing, and you may recognize her

from store fronts, magazines, and music vid-

eos. But when the blond bombshell checks

in at Johnny’s Saloon, the regulars know her

best for her charismatic presence within the

punk rock-flavored bar and the stiff drinks

she pours for her customers.

“We get a very interesting and mixed crowd

[at Johnny’s],” says Bernadette, who fits per-

fectly into the scene with her tattoos and

genuine appreciation for punk rock music.

“I’ll do whatever it takes to make sure people

are having fun.”

Bernadette, who on her off-time enjoys play-

ing the violin and taking walks in the park, has

been known to play drinking games with her

regulars, her favorite one involving a pair of

dice. The effort she puts into interacting with

customers contributes to the type of atmo-

sphere Johnny’s Saloon offers. Open from 2

p.m. to 2 a.m. every day of the week, John-

ny’s Saloon has its own personality. It’s many

things – punk, funk, psychobilly, rockabilly

– and offers a fun, off-the-wall atmosphere,

which attracted Bernadette to begin with.

“It’s loud, dark, and you can barely hear each

other,” says Bernadette of the atmosphere at

Johnny’s, “and it’s tons of fun.”

Located on Beach Blvd. near Slater in Hun-

tington Beach, Johnny’s Saloon offers a num-

ber of drink specials throughout the week.

To stay up to date on what’s going on at

Johnny’s, follow them on Twitter (@johnnys-

saloon). Keep up with Bernadette via Twitter

(@ItsMsMurder) and at Facebook.com/Ber-

nadetteMacias, and keep your eyes peeled

for Bernadette on Sullen TV as she hosts

“Musink” and “Ink & Iron.”

It’s hard not to do a double take when or-dering bottle service at the luxurious Drai’s Hollywood, the reason being the O’Donohue twins, Becky and Jessie. These two beauti-ful girls have graced Drai’s Hollywood ever since the opening in March 2010. Originally from Dobbs Ferry, New York, Becky and Jessie have both worked the club circuit in NYC. Before moving to Los Angeles, they were at The Hudson Bar inColumbus Circle, and Suite Sixteen. Af-ter moving to LA, Jessie worked as a bottle service host at Sky Bar while Becky opened up West Hollywood’s Villa as one of their mixologists.

They’ve since made LA their permanent home, and they love it. “One of our favor-ite parts of California is being able to go to the beach in November. The gorgeous weather allows us to be really active. We love hiking, and running on the beach. We also appreciate the laid back attitude and style that’s original to LA.”

They love to dance and have a good time and Drai’s Hollywood provides the perfect venue for that. At Drai’s the girls have met people from all over the world while manag-ing to build relationships with those who call LA home.

But don’t discount the O’Donohue twins as simply gorgeous ladies of the bottle service scene; these girls have smarts too. Jessie and Becky have received BA’s in communi-cation and business marketing from Niagara University where they both played Division I basketball. They have pursued acting since moving to LA. “We’ve worked on projects such as CSI Miami, House, ER, Rescue Me, I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, and American Idol to name a few.” Jessie and Becky love to have fun. Self-de-scribed, “foodies” they love spending their hard earned money on great eats. But when not going out to dinner, their perfect night would be “grabbing some hot dogs and beer while catching a game when the Yan-kees are in town.”

The O’Donohue twins have great aspirations when it comes to Hollywood living. They would both like to star in their own individual television series as well as have a success-ful career in voice overs. Most importantly though they’d like a chance to fist pump their way into the Jersey Shore house. MTV: let’s make that happen!

The California Connection Entertainment

Group is the strongest 18 and older pro-

motional company in Southern California,

attaining premier options for ultimate client

satisfaction. NiteGuide caught up with CEO

Sean Moloney for a look inside CaliConnect.

NiteGuideMagazine: What makes Cali-

Connect different?

Sean Moloney: We look at our client re-

lationship from a family perspective. From

the moment the client is introduced to

CaliConnect, they become part of the fam-

ily. And once they’re part of this exclusive

group, they get access to every CaliCon-

nect event taking place in California, Ne-

vada, and Arizona.

NGM: What’s the first package you sug-

gest for your clients?

SM: With all of our events we offer an

amazing package which includes round

trip transportation to our event in one of

our custom Party Busses, express entry

into the club, and of course an epic experi-

ence. All of our packages can be viewed

on our website www.caliconnect.net.

NGM: What’s the event you were involved

with that you’re the most proud of?

SM: The most memorable event for both

us, and our clientele, took place on May

20th, 2010 in Long Beach at the “The Ten

Million Dollar Venue”, also known as V2O.

Talent for the night included rap superstar

Andre Nickatina, and American white boy

rap-star, Mickey Avalon. This all-star talent,

combined with 600 plus college students

transported exclusively by CaliConnect,

helped put CaliConnect on an all new level.

NGM: What can you tell me about your in-

volvement with the Palms Takeover Model

Search?

SM: This upcoming March CaliConnect’s

Las Vegas Trip, “Cali Rocks Vegas”, will be

teaming up with NiteGuide Magazine on

an unforgettable weekend for all attending.

The trip consists of an amazing package

deal for only $200, which includes round

trip luxury charter coaches, room suites at

the Palms, and all access wristbands to

every club inside. Our clients will have ac-

cess to all four clubs each night, and V.I.P

admission, meaning no waiting in line! We’ll

also be throwing our own exclusive pool

party with a photo shoot of 30 beautiful

women from the NiteGuide Model search.

This trip is going to be a huge success,

we’re expecting over 200 partygoers to

take part in this crazy weekend. This would

not be possible without contributions from

both NiteGuide Magazine as well as The

NITELIFE AROUND THE wORLDDUBLIN, IRELAND

Nightlife scenes around the world come in many colors. This month, we are seeing green as we explore the lush landscape of “The Emerald Isle,” better known as Ireland. The streets of Temple Bar District in Dublin are filled nightly with tourists and locals seeking a memorable nightlife experience. It’s a long crawl to hit every pub in this busy entertainment district with a wide range of selec-

tion – from traditional and touristy to modern and posh. Whatever setting you are in, however, it will quickly become apparent to you that nobody does beer quite like the Irish do. This month’s “NiteLife Around the World” feature is dedicated to Dublin, Ireland. As you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day this month, you may want to consider a trip to this vibrant city, which is rich in its traditional Irish charm and is one of the most popular weekend destinations in Europe.

Porterhouse Temple Bar filters kegs and serves exclusively some of the best stouts, ales and lagers in Ireland. Located in the Temple Bar District, Porterhouse cashes in on a distinctive Irish charm and warm atmosphere. It is considered a “super pub.” These large, often multi-level and spacious establishments rule the nightlife scene in Dublin. Although a visit at just about every pub in Dublin is worthwhile, The Porterhouse, with an impressive range of beers, acts almost as a one-stop shop for the city’s finest in locally-brewed craft beer. While you won’t find Guinness at the taps of this super pub, the Wasslers 4X Stout, Porterhouse Red and TSB will more than make up for its absence.

Zanzibar, as its name suggests, lightly touches on a Middle Eastern theme with its palm trees, ornate hanging lights, eccentric décor, and a celestial-themed ceiling. It is a departure from the classic Irish pubs that crowd the streets of Dublin. Visitors make the most of the spacious setting, and with plenty of room to move around, the laser-lit dance floors crowd up to the sound of hip-hop, rock and dance blasting through the speakers. Dress to impress at this establishment, as you will find yourself rubbing elbows with some of the most beauti-ful people on the Dublin nightlife scene.

Page 15: The Electronic Issue

niteguidemag.com 13

Quay’s Bar is a favorite of Temple Bar frequenters. Its gold and green exterior draws patrons with the sound of live traditional Irish music escaping through the front windows. Building on their reputation of good beer, good music, and quality entertainment, Quay’s also doubles as a restaurant on its upper level. There, you can enjoy an Irish stew or an apple tart made in a traditional Irish fashion. A window seat at the restaurant will provide you with a great view of the main square, where you can watch the happenings of a busy Dublin tourist spot.

The Brazen Head is Ireland’s oldest pub and can be traced as far back as 1198. Just a short distance from the Guinness factory, Bra-zen Head is a true traditional Irish pub experience. Its authenticity is unrivaled, and with live music every night, this traditional Irish pub is a vibrant addition to the nightlife scene in Dublin. Also an award-winning restaurant, Brazen Head serves up a variety of traditional stews and seafood in both traditional and contemporary fashions. Come to Brazen Head for a relaxed night. You’ll find real Irish people with real insights on its history and culture.

Club M is a multi-level club that offers both lively and laid back environments. While nightclubs are now a rarity in Dublin due to a large influx of super pubs like Porterhouse, Club M has steadily attracted party-seekers for over a decade and is reminiscent to nightclubs on the Las Vegas strip. This setting is more for those who want to dance rather than those who are looking to drink. Visit club M to groove to the latest in top 40 and hip-hop music.

14 niteguidemag.com

This is the month of electronic music in the United States.

March literally will determine the course of the rest of the

year’s pace in EDM (a.k.a. electronic dance music, the loosely

defined and debated term that best fits the world of electronica).

Winter Music Conference and its rave-inspired sister, Ultra Music

Festival, are the single most important electronic music gatherings in

the world. This is where it happens; the front lines of change, innova-

tion and art. Miami hosts the two EDM festival behemoths and The

Magic City will unfold the leaps and bounds that will be taken in 2011

by our favorite djs, producers, nightclubs, promoters and anyone

else that has their finger triggering the pulse of this massive scene.

In case you haven’t noticed, EDM has taken the world by storm. In

an era where record labels are crumbling, most other music genres

are dead and stale; EDM and its composers have risen through the

ashes and set the world ablaze with their dance-inspired beats and

mind-numbing melodies. This year, Ultra and WMC have had to split

up to try to tame the madness that results from these events. Fans by

the 100,000’s, along with the injection of big money and huge spon-

sors like Heineken, have made the term ‘massive’ undergo breast

enlargement. Originally, WMC was formed as a meeting ground for

artists and A&R, industry pros, and a gathering for every other facet

in EDM culture. Growing popularity coupled with parties that make

Vegas look like pre-school have spawned a beast. This year you can

see some of the most forward thinking artists do their thing all in one

weekend: Afrojack, Avicii, deadmau5, Steve Aoki, Wolfgang Gart-

ner, along with countless other cult-status djs and festival headliners

alike. SXSW is taking place in Austin and their EDM list is growing

quickly by the year as well.

If you happen to be missing out on Miami this year, fear not! There is

plenty of EDM insanity around here too. Vegas’s new hot spot Mar-

quee has emerged as an uber-leader in EDM, hosting Chuckie, Dirty

South, and Kaskade (along with many others) in March alone. Diplo

launched The Palm’s 2011 electro-promo Clash Friday’s inside Rain

nightclub. This month offers a healthy serving of all star dj/producers

supported by some great LA openers.

Locally EDM is everywhere. You can go to nearly any club and find

a dj’s set littered with deadmau5 and Afrojack remixes paired with

your favorite top 40 vocals, but to find the real stuff that is paving the

way for those guys you have to look a bit deeper. One rule of thumb

is that the balconies, patios, and second rooms of nightclubs are

home to enthusiastic EDM, the real stuff. The Music Box, Playhouse,

8Eighty8, Stingaree, Hard Rock. All these venues consistently devote

their “second rooms” to electronic music. And for the main stage,

there is plenty of big-room-bangingness goin’ down. Los Angeles is

and will be leading the charge for EDM music in So Cal. At the top of

the list is Avalon which is dominated by EDM giants, and hosts the

city’s most famous afterhours. A local’s favorite and underground dig

goes down in the brick walls of King King and you can see local he-

roes like RJ Spinher and Adam Auburn bumping dance floors. Sun-

days in Hermosa hosts an A-List house night at The Shore Lounge.

When big EDM acts come to So Cal, they generally do a tri-city tour,

hitting three consecutive nights in LA, Orange County, and San Di-

ego. In Orange County, the number one spot to see an EDM A-lister

is Sutra. They have Giant Thursdays and have recently added Bat-

tery Sundays as well, which seems to hold a dirty little electro-house

vibe. Detroit Bar is doing an EDM night on Fridays and supporting

local superstars like Sanjay. You can find OC producers like Myndset

quickly rising on the EDM charts and frequenting the popular clubs.

San Diego easily wins for hosting the fastest growing scene, and

is quickly becoming a favorite for Vegas residents, headliners, and

locals thriving on EDM. Voyeur is strictly an EDM club. 4th and B and

Diegan-fave Fluxx host rotating EDM nights. Fortune Music hosts

House of Fortune on Thursdays at Sidebar. As mentioned above, any

rooftop such as Stingaree or Hard Rock will be blasting your four-to-

the-floor under the stars at all times. G-Roy, who I think is one of the

most talented dj’s I’ve ever seen, as well as Jon Dadon are holding it

down for EDM both in the nightclub and the entertainment industry:

owners of Fortune Music and Starry Eyed Music respectively.

Well that’s it folks. The single most important month in the fastest

growing music scene in the world. Grab your funky sunglasses. Dust

off you’re pasties. Stock you’re car with Emergen-C. It’s going to be

a wild ride. By John Helmrich

Music......

For me, a lot of emotion is packed in that 5 letter word. It’s my passion, my livelihood, my day and my night. It’s politics

and it’s freedom. It’s bigotry in a cutthroat, materialistic industry. It’s a miracle that capsizes war and shifts entire economic

trends. I love this aspect, this power, this ability that music has. It’s intoxicating. What’s also intoxicating is this magazine.

Young DublinersBy Heidi Darby

T he Young Dubliner’s formed during the early 90’s in a

pub in Santa Monica, where an old world Irish sound

fused with a hearty rock and roll style. After eight albums

and years of relentless touring, the Dublin natives prove that

for them, inspired lyrics and lively stage performances lead to

longevity.

“In the early days no one knew what to make of us, and it was

really hard to get airplay. I think people got into us because it

was like wading into uncharted waters,” lead singer Keith Rob-

erts said. “The internet got going right when we started to catch

on, and that was a help. Now we’ve been going so long that

we have generations of fans. You see the younger fans and you

can’t help but wonder if it was the Dad that got the kids into it.”

The group, often referred to as The Young Dub’s, maintains a

great level of comradery with their fans, who in many cases

have been with the band since their inception. The Irish rockers

even crafted a trip accessible to their devout following, offering

an entire travel package for fans to journey to Ireland and experi-

ence the shows. With the uprising of Irish rock bands, staples

like the The Young Dubliner’s continue to carve out a path for

the genre.

“We treat every show the same, whether it’s a nightclub or a

huge festival. We want people to get their money’s worth. The

show is based around fun, and we want it to be a fun experi-

ence,” Roberts said. “We want people to feel like their a part of

something special, and that they’re a part of the party atmo-

sphere. We’re not here to preach to ya, we’re not here to show

ya the horror’s of the world. We’re here to show ya a good time.”

Southern California native DJ Homicide has suc-cessfully worked in big name bands, including Sugar Ray and the Alkohliks, but has shined with

his devastating mixing skills as a solo artist.

His work with Sugar Ray helped catapult his mash-up and mixing abilities, but after his amicable departure from the group in August of 2010, he continued to es-tablish notoriety on his own. With personal favorite ven-ues consisting of Playhouse in Los Angeles and Fluxx in San Diego, it’s no surprise he loves playing to rowdy crowds in cutting edge, up and coming venues.

“I like the evolution of technology and music. That’s al-ways been what keeps me involved in it,” Homicide said.

Citing his biggest influence as KDAY Mix Masters from the legendary Los Angeles radio station KDAY 1580AM, he sees longevity, evolution, and a strong fan base as core elements of a successful career. In the early stages, he attained radio gigs on LA’s Power 106FM with “Fri-day Night Flava’s” which sparked his core fan base. The popularity of his 106 gig generated buzz among other radio stations, and led to his show on 92.3 with DJ Jam called “Radio Check.” The DJ does admit to some hur-dles in his history, involving his stage name.

“My name has been my biggest challenge. Some people won’t book me because they look at it as a name that represents violence. Actually, an influential friend named me after I won a number of DJ contests. He told me I should be DJ Homicide because I killed it,” Homicide said.

With plans of finishing his first solo DJ album this year, DJ Homicide will also be hitting up a variety of US dates, including gigs in Montreal, Salt Lake City, St. Louis, and Chicago in the month of March alone. He also frequents the afore mentioned California venues, Playhouse and Fluxx. Keep up with DJ Homicide on the S.K.A.M. artist homepage, or www.facebook.com/djhomicide1.

KITTY’S GUIDE: TO mEETING AND mATING IN THE REAL wORLD

“FABULOUS FIRST DATES”So, you took the leap and asked him/her out for your first date. So now what?

Where should you go? Most people default to the usual movie/dinner type of

thing. But, what about thinking outside the box and doing something differ-

ent? I’ve had the opportunity to enjoy some very memorable first dates. And

even though those relationships didn’t pan out, I still remember them and what

a good time I had.

A really successful first date will be a good experience paired with good con-

versation. That’s why movies are not good first dates. You don’t get a chance

to really talk to your date during a movie (unless you are one of those annoying

people that talks through the entire movie, lol). Here are some ideas to get

you started:

1. Bowling – Okay, I’m really not a great bowler. In fact, I’m really bad. But,

I still enjoy hanging out at the bowling alley even if I’m making a complete fool

out of myself, lol. (Pros: inexpensive, Cons: if you are really competitive, you

could set yourself up for disaster)

2. The Aquarium – I love going to the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach.

It is a manageable size to enjoy in a couple of hours and it is close to some

good restaurants if you want to grab a bite to eat afterwards. (Pros: plenty of

time to interact with your date, Cons: this could get a bit expensive and it is

only open during the day. Avoid weekday mornings or you will be surrounded

by school kids)

3. Be a tourist – Most people don’t take the time to really enjoy their local

sights. Go to the beach, to a local landmark or a local park. (Pros: free or low

cost, Cons: try to avoid overly crowded places so you and your date can enjoy

each other’s company)

4. Take a hike – A hike will give you time to talk and get to know each other.

And this is perfect if you are both athletic. Add a picnic lunch and make a

day of it. (Pros: free and you have time to converse, Cons: if your date isn’t

athletic at all or the type of girl who only wears high heels, this may not be the

best choice)

5. Sporting events – I met a guy who I was interested in who was a big Lak-

ers fan. He has lived in LA his entire life, but he had never been to a live Lakers

game. So, on our first date I took him to his first Lakers game! And to make it

even better, it was a playoff game against the Celtics! (Pros: a chance to enjoy

a common interest, Cons: could be expensive depending on the sport/team

and beware if you are rooting for different teams)

6. Try a different cuisine – I enjoy taking dates to different types of res-

taurants. Especially something like Shabu-Shabu, Indian or Teppanyaki (i.e.

Benihana’s). You get to share a fun experience together because the meal is

more interactive. You aren’t just eating, you are experiencing. (Pros: maybe

you’ll find a place that becomes “your” place together, Cons: can be expensive

and don’t take a really picky eater!)

Other ideas: amusement parks, miniature golf, ice/roller skating, art galleries/

museums, theater/plays, music concerts, comedy clubs, go cart racing, etc.

You get the idea!

But whatever you do, find something that you will both enjoy and take time to

get to know each other. After all, if this relationship works out, you will be telling

the story of your first date to your grandkids!

I remember the first time I heard Afrojack mentioned a little over a year ago. The combination of the two four letter words meant nothing to me

except a funny sounding name. It didn’t take more than a few hours for me to be absolutely in love with Nick van de Wall’s music. From this

point on, it became a point to spread the word of this amazing DJ to friends, family, and anyone with a taste for music. IPod, iTunes, iPhone

and every other form of media that belonged to me were filled with his productions. While most of us were just discovering who this future

Grammy-winning producer was and developing an appreciation for his talents, he was busy in his home country of the Netherlands, using his

Midas touch to create golden tracks, huge hits in the forms of remixes, and rocking festivals.

Since picking up the piano at the age of five, Afrojack’s early career was a healthy mix of music, acquiring connections through work, and

learning the ins-and-out of producing at the ripe young age of 11. After becoming locally famous and realizing his potential, Afrojack went on a

journey that would lead to more and more success, eventually onto an international level. At 18 years old, Afrojack cracked the Dutch charts, on

Digidance records, with the help of names we’ve all grown to love; Laidback Luke and Sidney Samson. Not too long after this is when Afrojack’s

success really began to skyrocket, as the releases of “Do My Dance” and “Math” were instant successes, which led to being selected to play

legendary festivals such as Tomorrowland, Mystery Land, and world-famous Sensation.

This was just the beginning for Afrojack, as his musical genius became even more apparent through collaborations with David Guetta, in ad-

dition to remixing Guetta’s track “Sexy Bitch”. Instead of stopping there, he also took up the challenge of remixing famous songs, including

“Alejandro” by Lady Gaga and “Revolver” by Madonna, and greatly succeeded.

At this point, Afrojack had established himself as a more than respectable artist, and now it was his time to conquer the American dance scene.

Instead of starting with small shows and festivals, Afrojack went straight to the top, playing Ultra Music Festival Miami and sets on both days of

Electric Daisy Carnival Los Angeles in 2010. After these two of the biggest dance events in North America, everyone knew who Afrojack was,

and it was time for him to continue to dominate the house music scene. With the release of “Take Over Control” and a recent Grammy, media

exposure for Afrojack is on the rise, and a recent landing of house DJ for Surrender nightclub in Las Vegas speaks for itself.

What’s the worst part about going out and having a great time? If you’re drinking, it’s obviously the hangover you may get

the following day. The unsightly and sometimes painful effects of “too much fun” can be avoided with a shot, and I’m not

talking about liquor. NOHO is a FunctionalLifestyle Beverage that helps you avoid the nasty symptoms of a hangover. This

preventative drink contains ingredients that consist of a perfect blend of essential vitamins and minerals that your body needs. NOHO

is “the drink before you drink” so the way it works is that by drinking a NOHO to start off, you load up on all the hydrating elements that

your body uses throughout the night. The unique blend helps keep you hydrated and balanced so you prevent the hangover effects

the next morning due to dehydration of these essential minerals. NOHO is not an energy shot and contains none of the stimulants

that aren’t essential to anti-hangover hydration, such as sugar, caffeine, and taurine. The flavor profile of light citrus stands head and

shoulders above other similar products, which end up tasting more like cough syrup rather than a refreshing beverage. Seem too good

to be true? Think again. NOHO was distributed at the Las Vegas Nightclub and Bar convention last year, where the lovely NOHO girls

passed out shots to a receptive and eager audience of restaurant and bar industry members. The next day over half the attendees

were back begging for another dose of this seemingly magic potion. If there’s ever a crowd to test out an anti-hangover remedy, Sin

City is the place find them. NOHO can also be used as a mixer with your favorite liquor or shooter, doubling up on the outcome of a

pre-emptive hangover strike.

NOHO can be found in association with some of the hottest parties and special events around, offering people that are usually skeptical

of its claims the chance to sample the product for themselves. Last August the crew stormed into LA for the X-Games, throwing the

official Kick Off Party at the Geisha House in Hollywood, with a performance by Too $hort as well as numerous celebrities and athletes

in attendance. NOHO is not just limited to nightlife, they have been seen at some of the hottest pool parties around and they were also

a big hit at a recent golf tournament hosted by Coors Light, as day-drinking can offer some of the worst hangovers. It’s hard to believe

that one little bottle can make a difference. NOHO has found a way offer a tasty, convenient way to fight back against the symptoms

of partying. Consider the options: Avoid those pesky hangovers, or spend the next day in over sized sunglasses while popping asprin

all day. Try it for yourself, the only thing you have to lose is your hangover.

Look up trance in the dictionary, and you will find the name Armin Van Buuren listed right next to it. Google his name online and you will find pages of

data about this one man, who is arguably the most talented trance producer/ DJ of all time. In the trance community, he is God. For all other lovers of

electronic music, he is a household name. One cannot help but respect Van Buuren for the impact he has on dance music, and he doesn’t appear to

be stopping anytime soon.

Since his release of “Blue Fear” in 1995, Armin found his way to the UK charts, followed by success with the track “Communication” in 2000, along with

becoming a factor in the Ibiza nightlife scene, which essentially guarantees recognition. Since this point in time, he has never looked back, and since crack-

ing the DJ Magazine Top 100 in 2001, he found his way to the top soon after. Replacing Tiesto as the number 1 DJ in the world is a daunting task, but Van

Buuren grabbed a hold of the crown and hasn’t been dethroned for the past 4 years.

Obtaining this honor is much more than making good music. Armin achieved this great accomplishment through his dedication and hard work ethic, including

countless hours in the studio to complete his four incredible albums, rocking the house at countless festivals, and having one of the most widely followed radio

shows on the planet, A State of Trance. Thousands of hours of the latest trance tunes have contributed to this radio show being the huge success that it is;

500 quality episodes bear witness to this. A milestone like this cannot be reached without the utmost discipline and dedication. To celebrate success, Armin

will play five huge shows in which faithful fans can pay tribute to this legendary DJ.

Luckily for residents of Johannesberg, Miami, Buenos Aires, Den Bosch (in Van Buuren’s home country Holland), and Syndey, they are privileged enough to

join Armin in a celebration they cannot afford to miss. The energy and mastery that Armin presents at a live show is unmatched by anyone else in the business.

Anyone of the 75,000 plus present for his set closing out Electric Daisy Carnival Los Angeles last year can testify to that. And don’t forget the nine hour set

welcoming Southern Californians into the year 2009. Many of you might be wondering, but no, it’s not a typo, NINE hour set.

If there is one way to find peace on earth,––– it’s through Armin Van Buuren’s 11 compilations, 4 albums, and countless productions.

ELECTRONIC SCENE

The Ultra Music Festival in Miami, Flori-

da headlines the worlds greatest elec-

tronic artists, drawing thousands of

people from around the globe to Miami’s Bi-

centennial Park. With three days of music and

fun in the sun, nothing could go wrong, right?

Here’s some friendly pointers to help make

your Ultra experience an unforgettable one.

You should always pack an extra roll of

TP: This may sound random, but port-a-pot-

ties in huge events are notorious for running

out of toilet paper. Stick an extra roll in your

back pack. Trust us, you could end up barter-

ing a few squares for a beer as the weekend

wears on.

Bring a blanket: Real estate in your back

pack will be limited, but finding a small, thin

blanket or towel will help avoid sitting in the

mud. The intensity of the day could force a

power nap, making the blanket useful once

again.

Designate a meeting point: In a sea of

75,000 people, someone’s bound to get lost.

No one wants to think too heavily about being

responsible, but a few minutes of good plan-

ning could keep you from spending the rest of

the evening with the guy that wears the “free

hugs” t-shirt.

Pre-plan your after party: The event shuts

down at midnight, and more likely than not

you’ll just be getting started. Make sure your

group has a couple of options for after the

park shuts down. Who knows, maybe an in-

vite will pop up during the fest, but it’s always

best to be prepared. NIteGuide suggests...

Bring hand sanitizer: In a park that col-

lectively allows 180,000 people in and out

of it’s gates over three days, germs can’t

be avoided. In all reality you’ll probably

be too caught up in the moment to worry

about germs and bacteria, but having a

little bottle of instant cleanliness will help

take the edge off those less than inviting

port-a-potties.

Invest in a cheap pair of sunglasses:

Wandering around in the Florida sunshine

will require a pair of shades, but don’t bring

the good pair. After the sun sets, they end

up on top of your head, around the back

of your neck, or mistakenly set on the

ground. After ferocious dancing and a pos-

sible buzz, there’s a good chance they’ll

get lost in the shuffle.

It’s the melting pot of electronic music:

Music lovers from across the globe come to

Ultra Music Festival to participate in what’s

arguably the best electronic music festival in

the world. Accents and languages will pop up

from every direction, so don’t hesitate to say

hola, bonjour, or kon’nichiwa.

Don’t take candy form strangers: Sure,

the smiley guy standing next to the trance

stage looks super nice, but when he offers

you a bright blue breath mint, proceed with

caution. Chances are you’ll end up feeling

more than minty fresh.

When it comes to an artist choosing a name, sometimes the artist will choose an animal to represent their music choice and persona. In this case, the artist went with a rodent. A small, simple, yet clever mammal capable of surviving under the harshest conditions. However, this time the artist decided that a dead mouse was better

than a live one. And you would literally have to be a dead mouse to not know what artist I am talking about. He even spells his name in a unique way: deadmau5.

If you don’t know who deadmau5 is, make sure you do your research online . I’m pretty sure that his music has caused the neck injuries in this country to spike due to uncontrollable head bobbing. And that is only the beginning. It has even been said that deadmau5’s music has the capability of making white people good dancers. Well, maybe that’s stretch, but most people listening to deadmau5 couldn’t care less about how people are dancing. They are mostly concerned about the music stopping.

In the last few years deadmau5, the technical whiz kid from Toronto, has become the biggest electronic producer and face figure since the emergence of Daft Punk. With performances around the world and on MTV, it’s hard to miss dead-mau5’s influence on the scene. Most importantly, deadmau5 has made it a point not only to create electronic music, but to create new music technology. As a kid growing up in Canada, deadmau5 always looked to technology as his source of entertainment. Recently deadmau5 designed an iPhone application that allows you to remix songs on your mobile phone. This way, no matter where you are, you can be your own musical master.

deadmau5’s fan base has always been a strong one. At many of events you can literally walk around the area and spot more than a dozen deadmau5s in the crowd. For those who are not aware of deadmau5’s appearance, think of a giant Jack in the Box head. Now paint it red and put two large circle ears on each side. Get the picture? Recently, deadmau5 has added some LED lights to his head which he calls the mau5head. A nice addition for his late night shows.

In 2011, deadmau5 will be headlining the Ultra Music Festival in Miami in the hopes to score some new fans and retain admiration with his current fans. At the end of last year, deadmau5 released his new album 4X4=12 that included several new hits. One can only assume that his latest set at Ultra will include a number of these songs blended with some of his old hits. It would be nice to see the mau5 and Kaskade join forces together. Their hits “I Remember” and “Move For Me” have been some of the biggest singles in electro in the last few years. So if you want to make deadmau5 happy, you should probably find a way to get down to Miami. The reward is cheese and a good time.

ULTRA DJ’S YOU wANT TO KNOw!

Bright lights shine down from the ceiling, illuminat-ing silhouettes all around me. My chest vibrates to a beat while my ears drown in the sounds of

Kaleidoscope. I am over 5000 miles away from home, surrounded by thousands of European women, without a clue to what day of the week it is or what time it is. Hell, I don’t even have a watch, but I don’t think that it matters in moments like this. I am seconds away from seeing one of the top rated DJ’s in the world, Tiesto, in what has been rated as the number one club in the world. As long as I have my red-bull vodka in my hand and these cute Slovenian girls by my side, my night is just warming up.

For all of those who haven’t been to Ibiza, you might not know what I am talking about. Tiesto, the king of elec-tronic music, has been a resident DJ in Ibiza for years. Every week during the summer, Tiesto unleashes hours of entertainment on to a crowd of several thousand.

When It comes to America, the name Tiesto might not be as well known. It has only been in the last couple years where his music has slowly crept into the mainstream ra-dio waves. Even then, the exposure is no where compa-rable to the amount he receives overseas.

This year, Tiesto is headlining one of the largest festivals in the world, Ultra Music Festival in Miami. The event at-tracts more than 100,000 people from around the world . For one weekend in March, this South Floridia city be-comes the center of electronic music for the entire world. In other terms, this place becomes our Ibiza.

While the party is at its best, you can find yourself en-gulfed by some of the hottest looking people in the world. And trust me on this one. Hot girls absolutely love Tiesto and I certainly know why. Tiesto’s music elicits a wide va-riety of emotions. Whether he is playing his older sounds like “Traffic” or dropping some of his newer songs like “Kaleidoscope,” Tiesto always keeps the progression of his music moving forward. An important aspect to any dance party.

If you are looking for the time of your life, I hope you are planning on going to Ultra. Tiesto will take you to places you never thought that your ears could take you. If you are unable to get to the South Beach area, go online and download his podcast on iTunes. It’s one of the best one’s out there.

Legendary DJ Carl Cox rose to fame in the early stages of the electronic

scene, and over the past two decades acquired the “Best DJ” title by

multiple magazines including MixMag, Muzik, and DJ Magazine. A long-

time household name in the UK, and an EDM superstar in the US, NiteGuide had

the pleasure of catching up with Carl about the nuances of his first US gig, his in-

tegral history with Ultra, and why his new album will keep you on the dance floor.

NiteGuideMag: Do you remember the first US gig you played?

Carl Cox: Oh wow. It was 1991 in San Francisco, and I played for a promoter

called Dave Dean, in a warehouse. I’ve actually got no clue where it was. I believe

near Folsom somewhere, and the party was called The Mad Hatters Party. They

booked me and another DJ called Colin Favor, along with Gordon Matthewman

(aka DJ Edge) who was a trumpet player. This was the first party I’d ever been

asked to play in the US, and it was for sure a mad party. There was about 6,000

people in the warehouse. Some people knew of me, but most people had never

really heard of me. That party right there set the scene for me in the US and

beyond Canada, for sure. When people walked away they understood why I got

booked to play there.

ized it was actually seven years. I wasn’t sure if it was five, six,

seven, or nine! Now that I think about it it’s definitely seven years.

For me, it’s just gotten bigger and better. We became a party

within the festival. When I first played for Ultra, they wanted a

top headlining DJ to play the main arena, and by that token, only

give me an hour to play. So if I’d played at 2:00 in the afternoon,

and people turned up at 4:00 to hear me play, they would have

completely missed my set. I thought to myself, this is pretty ri-

diculous. I couldn’t come all the way from England to Miami and

go for one hour. The only way I could help them represent the

sound was to book DJs, many of who are still there today, and

convince them to let me have my own arena. They essentially

said, “Hey that sounds like a great idea,” and seven years later

here we are.

NGM: The caliber of accommodations improve every year. I

heard this year you’re getting a balcony?

CC: Even for me, I’m like, “Oh ok, we’re getting a balcony...

cool!” When things grow organically or in the right way, it’s be-

cause people love it. They like it, they come back year in and

year out, and they really enjoy the room we create. We just try

to make it better for everyone so when they come into the room

they walk into something that, A: We spent money on. B: We

put thought into to. And C: Gets people what they want at Ultra,

at least from my point of view. That means I’m not just going to

play for one hour in the afternoon, I’m going to be there from

Friday at 2:00 when it starts until it finishes on Friday, and do

exactly the same thing Saturday. People can know how seri-

ously I’m embedded in the growth and development in Ultra. It’s

definitely one of the seminole festivals that you have in America

dedicated to electronic music, dance music, and DJs. Coach-

ella’s really great, but that’s not their focus. For me, Ultra is the

pinnacle for unique American festival events.

NGM: Can you tell me about your forthcoming album?

CC: The new album is called All Roads Lead To The dance

Floor. I’ve decided to call it that so every single track was all

about making sure people move to the music I’ve created. I’ve

been road testing a lot of this music over the last year, to see if

people are really digging what I’ve been making, without them

knowing it was a Carl Cox track. I’ll be performing it live in the

future, and we’re working on it now. You’re going to be seeing a

lot more of what I want to give to people.

NGM: You’ve been honored in countless music magazines, at

this point how do the accolades feel?

CC: I suppose it feels really good to be recognized for some-

thing over the very many years I’ve been a performing DJ. It’s

quite difficult to gage these things. I don’t do these events and

parties, or make this music to gain accolades, I just want to

share with people something I love. But if someone wants to

put me number one, or five, or ten on their hit list... Then great!

Primarily it’s about people walking away with a big smile on their

face based on what I’ve done. As long as I can keep doing that

I’ll be a very happy man.

Dragan Roganovi had quite a year for himself in 2010. Between traveling the world, playing shows at venues around the world for thousands of fans, and, oh yeah,

being nominated for a Grammy, he’s barely had time to slow down and catch his breath. Don’t recognize the name? Roga-novi is better known to electronic music fans as Dirty South.

Dirty South is an internationally recognized DJ, producer, and re-mixer based in Melbourne, Australia. He got his start in mu-sic by mixing and mashing other artist’s music together on his family’s computer at home and sending out the mixes around the world. His dark, hard-hitting style of music attracted the at-tention of electronic music fans and eventually led to him sign-ing with Vicious Vinyl Records in 2005. Since then, it’s been a non-stop, roller coaster ride for Dirty South that culminated with his remix of the Temper Trap’s “Sweet Disposition” with Axwell being nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Remixed Re-cording (Non-Classical) category. Dirty South’s meteoric rise continued with the bass-heavy, beat-dropping, and floor-filling success of his two original pro-ductions, “Phazing” and “Areena.” Building on the success of the two productions, Dirty South has scheduled an even more hectic 2011 for himself.

Named after “Phazing” and “Areena”, Dirty South plans on launching his new concept, “Starphazing Nights” world tour at the new Las Vegas, super-club Marquee on March 4th, and will perform at even more concert events all over Europe and North America as part of the tour. The “Starphazing Nights” concept will try to unite two different styles of electronic dance music and get everyone out dancing by pairing Dirty South’s signature dark house style with more upbeat, fist-pumping, hands-in-the-air tracks similar to “Phazing.” Once the music drops, there isn’t going to be a single music fan at “Starphazing Nights” that will be able to keep off the dance floor. Dirty South will be playing part of the “Starphazing Nights” tour during Miami Music Week and at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami at Club Mansion on March 24 and at the Masquerade Motel on March 26. On top of touring, making music, and playing at events all over the world, Dirty South has also found time to start his own record label, Phazing Records, which features up and coming DJ Jeremy Olander. Olander’s track “Airsteala” even features a Dirty South remix. There are big things ahead for Dirty South, and 2011 looks like it’s going to be a very busy year for the DJ. If one thing is for certain, we can expect great music and shows from Dirty South for years to come.

LONG bEACH

Page 39: The Electronic Issue

Besides technical knowledge of booze and recipes, there are some personal characteristics and skills that make for an inherently better candidate. So

let me pose a few questions back to you. Dig deep and take a good, hard look at yourself before you decide if this is the job for you.

Are you a team player or a lone ranger? Bartenders generally pool tips on a shift, tip out a portion of their earnings,

and help each other survive the night’s madness. Basically, your favorite places function because everyone

is willing to sacrifice their personal lives to sleep on cots behind the bar. (Just kidding about the cots, but

barely.) Know that if you are a very private person or prefer to work alone, this gig may not be a good

fit. Bars and restaurants are like small town high schools; everyone knows everyone’s business and

they’re not keeping it to themselves.

Are you pretty, and witty, and bright? If you are going to be stuck staring down 15 sets of semi-

glazed eyeballs for the night, let’s hope you can entertain a captive audience. Bartenders do tend to

excel in the art of communication, and being intelligent (or clever enough to appear so) will make for

better banter behind the bar. But if being a witty conversationalist isn’t your strong suit, then here’s to

hoping you’re easy on the eyes -- glazed or otherwise.

Are you cool with chaos? As far as stress goes, this industry can have its moments. Can you multitask with a

smile? Does the idea of memorizing a drink order as you mix the order before it and calculate the tab and keep

up with servers’ drink tickets (all while pretending to listen to some guy lament about how he and his ex broke up

at the saltwater taffy factory they visited together last June) make your head spin? Step away from the bartender

application. How are you with deciphering the slurry ramblings of last call requests

for Long Islands and decoding drunken tips written in scribble hieroglyphics?

How are you at deep breathing techniques? Did I mention patience? Apparently

it’s a virtue. Don’t get me wrong, bartending can be a fun job. And if you’re a Zen

master majoring in ancient hieroglyphics and have a slew of quick comebacks

just waiting in the gates – I say you’re in. Congratulations on finding your soul-

job! I hope I’m invited to the wedding, as I’m assuming it’ll be open bar. ;)

Want to ask a bartender?

Send your questions to [email protected]

ASK A bARTENDER: Think you have what it takes to jump behind the bar and mix it up? Read on. It’s good, bad, and ugly time, folks.

Q:

– Considering

A: Dear Considering,A very good question indeed. Many a poor unfortunate soul has shelled out for bartending school and somehow still come up short. They faithfully attend the classes, study drink recipes from handwritten index cards, and buy wine openers engraved with their initials. They may even land a job with that sweet, self-affirming certificate in hand. But friends, it’s a drunken jungle out there and index cards won’t keep you from being eaten alive. Maybe the wine opener could, depending on the situation, but that’s not the point. The point is: there’s more to it than simply smiling and pouring drinks.

BLOOD ORANGE wHISKEY SOURThe Shore [San Clemente]201 Avenida Del mar 92672 | 949.388.5898 | www.theshoresanclemente.com

By Rachel Salas

Combine an 1862 classic cocktail with a hint of blood orange flavor, and add a deep meaning behind

it, and you have yourself one of the best cocktails in Orange County. The Blood Orange Whiskey

Sour from The Shore in San Clemente is one of the most renowned drinks for more than one reason.

Made with Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey, Solerno Blood Orange liqueur, freshly squeezed lemon

and orange juice, simple syrup, and a splash of bitters, this specialty cocktail has brought a new and

improved taste to the old ways of making a Whiskey Sour.

The Shore’s owner, Tammy Williams, recruited drink mixologist Pablo Cruz, to create a special orange-

related drink, which symbolizes the awareness for Multiple Sclerosis, a disease that is very dear to her

heart. “My best friend has Multiple Sclerosis. I wanted to do something that everyone can get involved

in -- and a lot of people drink,” said Williams. The color orange is representative of Multiple Sclerosis

and 10 percent of the sales from purchasing a Blood Orange Whiskey Sour goes towards supporting

MS charities.

Step aside Patron Silver, Don Eduardo Reposado, and Tequila Herradura. There’s a new hot shot on the block. Tres Sietes is

the newest high-end ultra premium Tequila that is taking seasoned drinkers by storm.

Tres Sietes translates to “three sevens.” The numbers 777 are recognized as a lucky string of numbers in regards to winning the

jackpot on a slot machine. “The origin of the name Tres Sietes came about considering the concept that 777 purportedly represents

celestial perfection on three levels of manifestation: matter, astral, and spirit,” said founder Brady Bunte. “According to literature, the

number seven has deep spiritual significance.”

Tres Sietes ultra premium tequila is made from estate grown, 8 to 13-year-old, 100 percent Blue Agave from Jalisco, Mexico. Tres

Sietes Tequila contains the lowest level of methanol over any other tequila on the market. A state of the art diffuser is used to extract

juice from the Agave plant through a steaming process, opposed to the traditional way of cooking in stone ovens. Tres Sietes is

quadruple distilled and goes through “ozoning,” which purifies the tequila and eliminates impurities.

Tres Sietes features three types of its prestigious tequila: Silver, Reposado, and Anejo.

“Our Silver has an extraordinary pure and fresh bouquet of Blue Agave which is very enjoyable with a clean and crisp finish. Most

people are enamored by the smoothness and flavor of the Silver,” said Bunte. “The Reposado is aged in French Oak barrels for over

six months. Our Reposado drinkers are overwhelmed with the quality and taste. Our Anejo is aged over one and a half years and

has been compared to vintage malts and barrel-aged Cognac with an unparalleled after-taste. With hints of caramel, butterscotch,

vanilla, and a buttery smooth finish, it just melts in your mouth.”

Tres Sietes is a strong competitor in more than just the world of fine liquor. The Tres Sietes Off Shore Racing crew will take part in

the historic, inaugural annual event known as the Tres Sietes Offshore Baja 1000. The crew will go the distance beginning in San

Diego to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico to set a world record. They will compete for one day, 10 hours, with 850 miles of ocean, and

averaging over 100 mph.

“We believe we have revolutionized the art of tequila processing,” said Bunte. “Who knows, we might just be the luckiest tequila on

earth. We can’t wait for the world to taste its perfection. After all, you might just get lucky too.”

Local electro/hip-hop music group and OC Music Award nominee Wild-

boys played a free show at Downtown Fullerton’s Continental Room on

Feb. 10. Fans of the group filled every square inch of the dance floor in front

of the stage as the curtains were drawn, unveiling the six-person set with

frontmen Bronson and Stallone donning gold capes as they dove right into

their high energy set from their digital release, Kick Out the Jams, Vol. 1.

A highlight of the set came when the group performed “Killin Me,” an electro

club jam from their debut album with clever rhymes and a smartly incorpo-

rated hook from Teena Marie’s “Lovergirl.” The track carried with it enough

originality to impress, and enough familiarity for new fans to sing along. The

reference to the 80’s pop tune was a nice transition into a well-received

tribute to the Beastie Boys, which by its end had everyone fighting for their

right to party.

Wildboys is one of the many up and coming local bands to have graced

the stage at the Continental Room. Dimly lit with a red tint and old school

décor, Continental has a ‘grown and sexy’ feel to it that is unique in the

Downtown Fullerton scene. With a commanding stage presence, quirky

sense of humor, and cleverly borrowed elements from memorable pop acts,

Wildboys made a significant impact in the OC music scene with what was

only their second show ever.

Core of Downtown Los Angeles, approximately one mile from Staples

Center and the Los Angeles Convention Center.

The Crystal Method’s music has appeared in numerous TV shows,

video games, films, and advertisements. The crowd eagerly waited

as they danced to tunes by DJ IMG & Andre Ezer. When the duo hit

the stage, everyone threw their hands in the air and cheered hoping to

FEbRUARY IN REVIEW: FEATURED EVENTS

The NBA All Star game took place on Sunday February 20th, but the entire

weekend offered VIP events with guest appearances by the biggest names in

basketball and entertainment.

Boulevard3 in Hollywood rocked the weekend with a variety of hosts. The

elegant venue filled up with fans and players alike, with singer Chris Brown

hosting the Friday night festivities. Saturday night’s host created the most

buzz, with Kobe Bryant taking over the hosting duties after his hands and feet

were cemented in the famous walkway of Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. This

was Kobe’s first gig as a host, but the pressure was relieved by the sounds of

Questlove, whose music spilled throughout the venue. Sunday closed out the

Boulevard3 festivities with Nicki Minaj.

Other events over the weekend included a concert at Club Nokia hosted by

Grammy and Oscar winner Jamie Foxx, and an all star comedy jam hosted by

Shaquille O’Neil. In addition an unlikely group of celebrities participated in the

celebrity basketball game held at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Play-

ers included Justin Bieber, Joel McHale, Common, Scottie Pippen, and Nick

Cannon. Coaches consisted of Jimmy Kimmel, Jason Alexander, Bill Walton

and Magic Johnson. The entire weekend brought together an eclectic mix of

people, who all shared a common love for the sport of basketball.

DJ Slander has had a hell of a month. Not only has the pair hosted a myriad of events; they have continuously gained fans along the way. For all those who are not aware, DJ Slander is the dynamic duo from the University of California, Irvine that was featured in January’s issue of NiteGuide Magazine. The duo is made up of Scott Land and Derek Andersen, two fraternity brothers who decided that trance and house music should be more than just their passion; it should be their job.

NiteGuide Magazine had the privilege of having these two spin at our one year anniversary party on January 21st at The Galaxy Concert Theatre. Their performance was awe-inspiring. On February 17th, DJ Slander took over the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano and completely brought down the house. Unlike many DJs who try to be too cool for their audience, DJ Slander has no trouble working the crowd. During their performances, it is not uncommon to see party goers jump up on stage and join in on the fun. In many ways, one can claim that DJ Slander creates a musical experience comparable to a rock concert. However, in their case, the turn table is their guitar.

Next month, DJ Slander aims to make a trip up to Las Vegas in order to bring their dream to the city of sin and lights. Just like we predicted, the pair that makes up DJ Slander are becoming the darlings of the DJ scene.

BLEEDING HEARTSGalaxy Concert Theatre [Santa Ana]Story by Emmanuel Cayanan | Photography by Brian Brown

Summer will be here before we know it. Sometimes all you need to heat things up is a little bit of skin and a hot DJ set. When a red hot bi-kini line’s debut pairs up with a world-famous DJ, it’s hard to determine which is the main event. That’s just what club-goers at Galaxy Concert Theater in Santa Ana, Calif. were treated to on Friday, Feb. 11 at Bleed-ing Hearts, a special event produced by Eight13 Productions.

Bleeding Hearts splashed onto the nightlife scene with the help of Cat Walk Entertainment Fashion. Ticket holders of the 21 and over event were treated to a live fashion show featuring the launch of NakedGirl, a new line of eye-popping and playful bikinis. Models took to the stage in their heels and NakedGirl-branded hot pink beach towels before re-vealing their show-stopping ensembles to an appreciative crowd. The line included something for every girl – everything from basic black to hot pink and white stripes, showcasing each NakedGirl model’s siz-zling physique.

The heat was heavy onstage as well as on the dance floor, as DJ Vice of SKAM Artists spun an incredible set. Vice, who has worked with the likes of Timbaland, Pharrell and Lady Gaga, has a large following due to his busy schedule spinning and mixing in markets all over the world. His stop at the Galaxy adds to a long list of world-renowned talent to play at the Santa Ana venue.

Sponsors of the event included Agave Underground Tequila, Monster Stage, NoHo Anti-Hangover drink, and NiteGuide Magazine. Galaxy Concert Theater hosts some of OrangeCounty’s top events and re-cently hosted NiteGuide Magazine’s 1-year anniversary celebration.

A huge thank you to Monster Stage and Ultrasound. NakedGirl bikinis can be found at Catwalk in Huntington Beach.

will be, just the way you like it. As the 12th sign of the zodiac, you

embody all the energies of the 11 signs as you float through life with an

unworldly, imaginative and mystical charm. The majority of 2010 had

is fighting against the current; then letting go…going with the flow. Un-

abashedly sensitive and seductive you welcome the ease, excitement

and joy 2011 has in store for you. You’ll be on an energetic rollercoaster

this month with manic Mars in your sign, slowing everything down, but

this is just a delay, not a setback. With the Sun entering and cleans-

ing your 12th House of Secret Past, your ruling house sets you up for

long lasting success. This is the time where you see the results of the

growth and maturity last year brought you, along with seeing your hard

work payoff in ways you couldn’t imagine. This year is going to be a

daydream; the only way you’d like it.

Splurge is a part of your daily vocabulary as you have a tendency to

always “go for it”. However you must be extra careful in the beginning

of your month as Mars is in charge and it has you a bit out of control. If

you don’t watch what you spend you’ll end up with quite the financial

hangover come month’s end. Overall this is a very prosperous year for

you Pisces. You are seeing the fruits of your past labor and taking ad-

vantage of the numerous opportunities that lay ahead. The Dogs Days

Love is in the air, as it always is for you Pisces, you love to love. Your

mysterious and sensual personality acts as a magnet, attracting those

you desire to you. This month your powers of attraction are in full ef-

fect and if you are single you won’t be for long. However if you are in

and you find yourself falling deeper in love, sharing a more profound

connection with your mate. This is the year of ease and happiness in

your love life, relish it!
