Dear Edgeboro Friends & Family, In thinking about what to write for this newsletter, I began to look back on the month of April. It was an eventful month, for the church and for me. The Mystery Dinner Theater, Moravian Music Sunday, the “Moravian 101” class, and Easter Sunday were all wonderful, but are now in the books, and I witnessed a friend being ordained and celebrated making it to another decade in life. All of those are great memories to recall, but just this morning, hours before writing this, I re-membered another event that began a few days before April – Opening Day for Major League Baseball. It was fresh in my memory because of a moment of distraction I had with a baseball video on my phone. The video was of a TV show host demonstrating a practice drill that can be used to work on fielding. It was probably my prior experience of being a baseball coach that had me glued to this video, because I’m sure there are plenty of you read-ing that wouldn’t find that interesting at all. In any case, I’ve always been amazed by the intense repetition of basic skills that athletes and others go through when practicing. Some athletes will take hundreds of ground balls, free-throws, swings, or laps on a regular basis in order to perfect their craft. A book came out about ten years ago by an author named Malcolm Gladwell along the same lines of this topic on prac-tice. In the book, he suggests a “10,000-hour rule,” saying that it takes 10,000 hours of practice to become an expert at something. This roughly equates to 10 years of 20 hours of practice per week. That’s a lot of time and dedication! Dis-claimer! – I have not read this book and I don’t claim to abide by the 10,000-hour rule. I simply bring it up to make a point. Our faith is something to be practiced too. The apostle Paul said in the conclusion of his letter to the Philippians, “Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me or seen in me – put it into practice.” (4:9) When was the last time we felt like we needed to practice the basics of worship, prayer, study of scripture, and service? Are we willing to devote the time it might take for our faith to grow? I’m not saying we all need to read scripture or pray for 20 hours a week to amass 10,000 hours. While I would admire such an undertaking, that would not be practical for us today who are not residents of a monastery. I am suggesting that any time is a good opportunity to reset and refocus on making the opportunities to worship, pray, study, and serve. Brothers and sisters, may we be blessed in everything we do in faith, for it is those efforts which bring the very presence of God to this world. Practicing in faith with you, Pastor Dan

Dear Friends at Edgeboro, Thank you for your generous gift of $158.90 from your Joyful Noise offerings to benefit Hope Conference Center’s ongoing camping program.
Your support will enhance our ability to serve the recreational and spiritual needs of youth, adults and families who visit Hope Conference Center. I am pleased you share our conviction that outdoor ministry is vital-ly important. Each gift helps in some way to bring a child or adult closer to our Lord, Jesus Christ. I hope you will continue to support Hope Conference Center by keeping the camp in your prayers. Cordially, Susan Dreydoppel

Board of Trustees’ March & April Meeting Highlight
Estimates are being gathered for repair of boiler as this will need to be fixed before the next heating season. This is priority and is expected to be quite costly so other projects are on hold at this time.
Trustees approved purchase of a new laptop for worship services as current laptop is unable to function in capacity needed to run MediaShout worship program.
The garden committee has been doing an excellent job with spring clean up around the church. Many thanks to all who are helping.
Don’t forget to sign up for e-Giving! Are you a faithful giver? We understand that it may not be possible to attend church every Sun-
day. The work of the church continues even when you can’t be here. Thank you for considering be-coming faithful in your giving. And if you are already a faithful giver – thanks!
We are looking for individuals to place in the church's lawn mowing rotation this summer. If you would be willing to mow the lawn at church one to two times this summer, please contact the church office. (The church has it's own mower!) Thank you!

COMING SOON TO NORTH BETHLEHEM.....ANOTHER HABITAT FOR HUMANITY FAITH BUILD! And you're invited to participate!! Habitat will be building 4 new homes (2 twins) beginning in June, and one of the homes (at 412 Keystone Ave. in Bethlehem) will be a Faith Build, with financing and construction crews coming from area churches. Thrivent Financial has given a Challenge Grant and will match donations from churches. BAM (Bethlehem Area Moravians) has already made a generous financial pledge, and we are looking for volunteers - men and women - from area Moravian churches to join with folks from other denominations on this project. So if you can hammer, or drill, or wield a paint brush....or would like to give it a try, please join us for an educational and rewarding experience. And if you'd like to help in ways other than construction, we'll also need help providing lunch and snacks for the workers. Building is expected to commence in early June. Work days are Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. Come when, and as often as you are able. If you wish to come with a friend, or a small group from your church, find a day that suits you all and sign up for that day. While skilled volunteers are welcome, the majority of our volunteers have few construction skills. Site supervisors and CORE construction volunteers will teach you everything you need to know on your build day. In order to participate, BAM members will need to create a Volunteer Hub Account (http://habitatlehighvalley.volunteerhub.com) If you have participated in the past you may only need to update your password. You will also need to sign a safety waiv-er when you create your account. Harry Tachovsky (610-691-3737 or [email protected]) will be the contact person for creating an account, signing up, and for questions on the process. Harry is a Central Moravian Church member and an experienced Habitat volunteer; he would be happy to speak with you about the Faith Build.
As a representative for the Board of World Mission Aaron Van Der Linden was on site to guide and coordinate efforts to rebuild the Port Arthur, Texas community, which was inundated by Hurricane Harvey last year. Much has been accomplished, however, much rebuilding remains to be completed in
and around Port Arthur. Currently, David Miller and Mark Sebek, both of the Unity of the Brethren, are coordinating the incoming teams. Teams are received in Port Arthur where accommodations for approxi-mately 15-20 people are available. Accommodations include lodging and meals. The local folks want to put their lives back in order. Some may need help doing just that. Do you or a group have some time to help them out with their needs? If so, please contact the BWM through Jill Kolodziej, the Director of Antioch. Jill can be contacted via email at [email protected] or by phone at 920.256.9472.
Listen to your call to mission. Experience the joy of being and working with others as we join together in Christian fellowship,
sharing our God-given skills and talents while helping with needed projects at Camp Hope. Hear stories of how responding to the call to mission has changed lives. Take advantage of this close-at hand mission opportunity to live your faith in service to others with fellow Moravians. Tools and instruction will be provided by NEMDR. Come joint the fun on May 11th and 12th, 2018. The cost is $10.00 each day or $15.00 for the weekend. Meals and overnight accommodations provided. For information and reservations, call John Egerton at 610-217- 0514 or Mike Rampulla at 610-462- 7401. Become the person God knows you can be!
