From Fr. Jossy’s Desk:
EPIPHANY OF THE LORD 2020 A On this feast of the Epiphany, we are reminded that God welcomes those who
approach God in simplicity of heart.
Many wonders accompanied the birth of the Savior. One was the appearance of the
star that brought the Magi. They came with simplicity of heart to adore our new King
lying in the manger. Let us love our Savior in simplicity of heart, having but one aim
and object in all we do. Simplicity is nothing else but a pure and simple act of charity
which has only one end in view to express our love for God. The human heart has no
less love when it turns to external acts of charity than when it prays. In such hearts,
their silence and their speech, their action and their contemplation, their work and
their rest equally sing God’s praises. They do all their deeds, great or small with great
love. Such were the lives of the saints.
We may ask, “How can we acquire God’s love?” In fact there is no art other than to
set ourselves to the work of loving God, which means applying ourselves to the
practice of those things that are pleasing to God with simplicity.
Imitate the simple love of doves. They have only one mate, for whom they do
everything, and whom alone they wish to please. Imitate them also in the simplicity
with which they express and show their love. They are happy to rest quietly in each
other’s presence.
The true means of finding and acquiring holy love is to remain in Christ’s presence. In
this Presence we can delight in the joy of experiencing many inspirations and
affections because we belong exclusively to God. Like the Magi, today we draw near
to the crib of the Christ Child. Let us be rich in love for our Savior who desires to
show us how to love.

Padre Vattothu Jossy, CMI Vicario Parroquial

Feast of the Epiphany
The Feast of the Epiphany is celebrated on January 6. This feast commemorates the visit of the wise men to worship the baby Jesus. Tradition tells us that their
names were Caspar, Melchior and Balthassar. The men were astrologers
who were looking for the star that would lead them to the promised Messiah. This
was prophesied in the Book of Micah. According to the Gospel narratives, the wise men brought gifts of gold, frankin-cense and myrrh with them. These gifts
were very meaningful. Gold was a precious and expensive gift, and showed how important Jesus was. Frankincense
is a sweet perfume which was often burned in the temple to worship God. It
was a sign that Jesus should be worshipped. Myrrh was used to keep things fresh, and it was used by the
women to anoint Jesus’ body when he died. By bringing it as a gift to Jesus, the
wise men foretold his suffering and death.
