steadfast in this faith and worship, and bring us at last to see you in your one

and eternal glory, O Father; who with the Son and the Holy Spirit live and

reign, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

THE LESSONS (seated)

Reader A reading from the Book of Genesis. [Genesis 1:1-2:4a]

When God began to create the heavens and the earth—the earth was without

shape or form, it was dark over the deep sea, and God's wind swept over the

waters—God said, "Let there be light." And so light appeared. God saw how

good the light was. God separated the light from the darkness. God named the

light Day and the darkness Night. There was evening and there was morning:

the first day.

Page 4: The Episcopal Church in Delaware · fifth day. God said, "Let the earth produce every kind of living thing: livestock, crawling things, and wildlife." And that's what happened. God

4

God said, "Let there be a dome in the middle of the waters to separate the waters

from each other." God made the dome and separated the waters under the dome

from the waters above the dome. And it happened in that way. God named the

dome Sky. There was evening and there was morning: the second day.

God said, "Let the waters under the sky come together into one place so that the

dry land can appear." And that's what happened. God named the dry land

Earth, and he named the gathered waters Seas. God saw how good it was. God

said, "Let the earth grow plant life: plants yielding seeds and fruit trees bearing

fruit with seeds inside it, each according to its kind throughout the earth." And

that's what happened. The earth produced plant life: plants yielding seeds, each

according to its kind, and trees bearing fruit with seeds inside it, each according

to its kind. God saw how good it was. There was evening and there was

morning: the third day.

God said, "Let there be lights in the dome of the sky to separate the day from the

night. They will mark events, sacred seasons, days, and years. They will be

lights in the dome of the sky to shine on the earth." And that's what happened.

God made the stars and two great lights: the larger light to rule over the day

and the smaller light to rule over the night. God put them in the dome of the sky

to shine on the earth, to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the

light from the darkness. God saw how good it was. There was evening and

there was morning: the fourth day.

God said, "Let the waters swarm with living things, and let birds fly above the

earth up in the dome of the sky." God created the great sea animals and all the

tiny living things that swarm in the waters, each according to its kind, and all

the winged birds, each according to its kind. God saw how good it was. Then

God blessed them: "Be fertile and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let

the birds multiply on the earth." There was evening and there was morning: the

fifth day.

God said, "Let the earth produce every kind of living thing: livestock, crawling

things, and wildlife." And that's what happened. God made every kind of

wildlife, every kind of livestock, and every kind of creature that crawls on the

ground. God saw how good it was. Then God said, "Let us make humanity in

our image to resemble us so that they may take charge of the fish of the sea, the

birds in the sky, the livestock, all the earth, and all the crawling things on earth."

God created humanity in God's own image,

in the divine image God created them,

male and female God created them.

Page 5: The Episcopal Church in Delaware · fifth day. God said, "Let the earth produce every kind of living thing: livestock, crawling things, and wildlife." And that's what happened. God

5

God blessed them and said to them, "Be fertile and multiply; fill the earth and

master it. Take charge of the fish of the sea, the birds in the sky, and everything

crawling on the ground." Then God said, "I now give to you all the plants on the

earth that yield seeds and all the trees whose fruit produces its seeds within it.

These will be your food. To all wildlife, to all the birds in the sky, and to every-

thing crawling on the ground—to everything that breathes—I give all the green

grasses for food." And that's what happened. God saw everything he had made:

it was supremely good. There was evening and there was morning: the sixth day.

The heavens and the earth and all who live in them were completed. On the

sixth day God completed all the work that he had done, and on the seventh

day God rested from all the work that he had done. God blessed the seventh

day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all the work of creation.

This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created.

Reader The Word of the Lord.

People Thanks be to God.

The Psalm is recited responsively by whole verse [Psalm 8]

Reader: O Lord our Governor, *

how exalted is your Name in all the world!

People: Out of the mouths of infants and children *

your majesty is praised above the heavens.

You have set up a stronghold against your adversaries, *

to quell the enemy and the avenger.

When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, *

the moon and the stars you have set in their courses,

What is man that you should be mindful of him? *

the son of man that you should seek him out?

You have made him but little lower than the angels; *

you adorn him with glory and honor;

You give him mastery over the works of your hands; *

you put all things under his feet:

All sheep and oxen, *

even the wild beasts of the field,

The birds of the air, the fish of the sea, *

and whatsoever walks in the paths of the sea.

O Lord our Governor, * how exalted is your Name in all the world!

Gospeller The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew [Matt 28:16-20] People Glory to you, Lord Christ.

Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus told

them to go. When they saw him, they worshipped him, but some doubted.

Jesus came near and spoke to them, "I've received all authority in heaven and

on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in

the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to

obey everything that I've commanded you. Look, I myself will be with you

every day until the end of this present age."

Gospeller The Gospel of the Lord.

People Praise to you, Lord Christ.

THE SERMON Bishop Brown

THE NICENE CREED (spoken in unison, all standing)

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all

that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the

Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten,

not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made.

For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of

the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made

man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death

and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the

Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the

Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and

his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the

Father and the Son. Who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and

glorified. Who has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy

catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the

forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of

the world to come. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE – Form II

In the course of the silence after each bidding, the People offer their own prayers, either silently or aloud.

Leader I ask your prayers for God's people throughout the world: for Michael our

Presiding Bishop and Kevin our Bishop; for Christians wherever they are

gathering this day; and for all ministers and people during the changing

circumstances and uncertainty of the present time.

Pray for the Church.

Silence

I ask your prayers for peace; for goodwill among nations; for civic leaders

here and abroad, that they may be wise and compassionate in their decisions

for the well-being of all people.

Pray for justice and peace.

Silence

I ask your prayers for the poor, the sick, the hungry, the oppressed, and

those in prison; for divine protection be upon all emergency and medical

personnel, chaplains, social and mental health workers, and the staff of

shelters and feeding programs.

Pray for those in any need or trouble.

Silence

I ask your prayers for all who seek God, or a deeper knowledge of him.

Pray that they may find and be found by him.

Silence

I ask your prayers for the departed, especially those separated from their

loved ones during this time of pandemic.

Pray for those who have died.

Silence

Praise God for those in every generation in whom Christ has been honored.

Pray that we may have grace to glorify Christ in our own day.

Silence

Celebrant Almighty God, by your Holy Spirit you have made us one with your saints in

heaven and on earth: Grant that in our earthly pilgrimage we may always be

supported by this fellowship of love and prayer, and know ourselves to be

surrounded by their witness to your power and mercy. We ask this for the

sake of Jesus Christ, in whom all our intercessions are acceptable through the

Spirit, and who lives and reigns for ever and ever. Amen.

CONFESSION OF SIN

Celebrant Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor.

Most merciful God,

we confess that we have sinned against you

in thought, word, and deed,

by what we have done,

and by what we have left undone.

We have not loved you with our whole heart;

we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.

We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.

For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ,

have mercy on us and forgive us;

that we may delight in your will,

and walk in your ways,

to the glory of your Name. Amen.

The Bishop says

Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins through

our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power

of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen.

THE PEACE

Celebrant The peace of the Lord be always with you.

People And also with you.

THE GREAT THANKSGIVING – Eucharistic Prayer B BCP, p. 367

Celebrant The Lord be with you.

People And also with you.

Celebrant Lift up your hearts.

People We lift them to the Lord.

Celebrant Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

People It is right to give God thanks and praise.

It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to

you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. For with your co-eternal Son

and Holy Spirit, you are one God, one Lord, in Trinity of Persons and in Unity of

Being; and we celebrate the one and equal glory of you, O Father, and of the Son,

and of the Holy Spirit.

Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with

all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of

your Name:

Music: American folk melody; arr. Marcia Pruner, harm. Annabel Morris Buchanan (1889-1983)

Page 12: The Episcopal Church in Delaware · fifth day. God said, "Let the earth produce every kind of living thing: livestock, crawling things, and wildlife." And that's what happened. God

12

Then the Celebrant continues

We give thanks to you, O God, for the goodness and love which you have made

known to us in creation; in the calling of Israel to be your people; in your Word

spoken through the prophets; and above all in the Word made flesh, Jesus, your

Son. For in these last days you sent him to be incarnate from the Virgin Mary, to be

the Savior and Redeemer of the world. In him, you have delivered us from evil,

and made us worthy to stand before you. In him, you have brought us out of error

into truth, out of sin into righteousness, out of death into life.

On the night before he died for us, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he

had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, "Take,

eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me."

After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to

them, and said, "Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant,

which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you

drink it, do this for the remembrance of me."

Therefore, according to his command, O Father,

Celebrant and People

We remember his death,

We proclaim his resurrection,

We await his coming in glory;

The Celebrant continues

And we offer our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving to you, O Lord of all;

presenting to you, from your creation, this bread and this wine.

We pray you, gracious God, to send your Holy Spirit upon these gifts that they

may be the Sacrament of the Body of Christ and his Blood of the new Covenant.

Unite us to your Son in his sacrifice, that we may be acceptable through him,

being sanctified by the Holy Spirit. In the fullness of time, put all things in

subjection under your Christ, and bring us to that heavenly country where,

with all your saints, we may enter the everlasting heritage of your sons and

daughters; through Jesus Christ our Lord, the firstborn of all creation, the head of

the Church, and the author of our salvation.

By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honor and

glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and for ever. AMEN.

Page 13: The Episcopal Church in Delaware · fifth day. God said, "Let the earth produce every kind of living thing: livestock, crawling things, and wildlife." And that's what happened. God

13

THE LORD’S PRAYER Celebrant And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say,

All Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name,

thy kingdom come, thy will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power,

and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

THE BREAKING OF THE BREAD

Celebrant Alleluia! Christ our Passover has been sacrificed for us.

People Therefore let us keep the feast. Alleluia.
