The Evolution of Crystal LuxuryThe World’s Best: Reimagined

Crystal Cruises debuted in 1990 with a singular goal: to provide the world’s finest luxury travel experience, not just in cruising, but among all luxury vacations. Over the course of the 29 years since then, Crystal has been recognized with more world’s best awards than any other cruise line in history. This unprecedented performance led to our current brand expansion, among the most significant in luxury travel, as the acclaimed Crystal Experience may now be enjoyed aboard Crystal River Cruises, Crystal Yacht Expedition Cruises, Crystal AirCruises, and Crystal Luxury Air.

Amidst this tremendous growth, the heart of Crystal remains aboard Crystal Symphony and Crystal Serenity. For these are the ships where the Crystal Experience began, and where it continues to evolve.

Crystal Serenity has just emerged from her longest-ever makeover, with enhanced experiences and luxury features that mirror those created aboard Crystal Symphony during her dry dock the previous year. The stunning transformation includes spa-cious new suites and penthouses, innovative new dining options and open seating, and enhanced service and space ratios among the highest in luxury travel.

...continued from front cover

Crystal Serenity’s Remarkable Redesign

Beautifully reimagined throughout virtually every space on board, Crystal Serenity returned to the seas on No-vember 10, 2019, boasting brand-new butler-serviced Seabreeze Penthouse Suites and Seabreeze Penthouses that offer customized enhancements includ-ing large, luxury showers with body jets, and a unique entryway connecting two Seabreeze Penthouses to create a seamless accommodation for families and friends.

Also new are globally-inspired culinary venues and choices. Waterside replaces the centrally located Crystal Dining Room, now offering more tables for two and four and featuring open seating for dinner, while still serving the inspired array of classic and modern cuisine. Guests are invited to dine at their leisure between 6:00pm and 9:30pm. Waterside will also continue to serve breakfast and lunch during existing timeframes.

Marketplace (formerly the Lido Café) is the new casual dining area for breakfast and lunch. Fresh and friendly, this open-seating space serves made-to-order favorites along with a variety of salads, sandwiches and specialties. Each night, Marketplace transforms into Churrascaria, Crystal’s own version of a Brazilian steakhouse serving a menu of succulent cuts, ceviches, tapas and more (open seating too!) from 6:30pm to 9:00pm.

Another new dining option is Silk, located near the Trident area in place of the former Tastes restaurant. This contemporary venue offers modern Chinese-inspired fare with family-style dinner plates ideal for sharing, and self-service options for breakfast and lunch

that include dumplings, Chinois salad, a soup and noodle bar and other Asian favorites. For the dinner hours between 6:30pm and 9:00pm, reservations are recommended, although open seating will be accommodated. The Trident Bar & Grill remains in the adjacent space, serving casual grilled options including burgers and sandwiches.

Umi Uma and Sushi Bar (formerly named Silk Road and The Sushi Bar), is the new name for the specialty din-ing venue by famed Master Chef Nobu Matsuhisa, still serving his inspired Japanese-Peruvian cuisine prepared by his personally trained chefs.

A new Stardust Supper Club also debuts aboard Crystal Serenity, serving four-course evening menus in an elegant dining and entertainment experience reminiscent of the era of Sinatra and Martin. Guests can choose this new concept on black-tie-optional evenings on every voyage, with pre-reservations required. The Stardust Club underwent a refit of its own, with a new dance floor, enhanced lighting features, new seating and versatile configurations for a variety of events and occasions.

Several favorite shipboard spaces will enjoy reimagined designs, while main-taining their inherent function as part of your onboard experience. The top-deck, forward Palm Court lounge was entirely redesigned to feature more intimate seating, a new in-the-round bar area, relocated dance floor and dedicated area for small snacks and groups. Pulse Night Club also received a new look, while new carpeting was installed through-out all public areas on board, including stairways and landings.

High tech amenities and features are also now in place aboard both ships to streamline guests’ experience and keep

them connected to their voyage and the destinations.

State-of-the-art new technology includes SpeedNet accelerators aboard both ships that double satellite speed, allowing for free, unlimited Wi-Fi available across all devices — laptops, tablets and smartphones. The elevated digital experience also introduces Crystal Connect™, an exclusive Inter-net portal and digital app featuring the ships’ daily newsletter and Newspapers Direct (international news services), and more. New interactive televisions – now in every stateroom and suite on both ships – offer current movies and popular TV series (new streaming video allows for viewing on personal mobile devices throughout the ship, too). The new TVs allow guests to watch a pre-recorded destination lecture, or enjoy a selection of videos representing Crystal’s various travel experiences.

For discerning Crystal guests who have long enjoyed the incomparable offerings aboard our ocean ships, the Evolution of Crystal Luxury represents everything you love about Crystal – the personalized service, abundant personal and public space, superlative quality and numerous choices – plus much, much more.

PERSONALITY PROFILE

Safety at SeaCrystal Cruises is proud of its excellent safety

record, and we do our utmost to improve on

our safety procedures and emergency drills.

Your safety during your cruise vacation with

us is our primary concern.

While Crystal Serenity is manned by well-

trained fire fighters and is built to the

highest level of fire protection, fire at sea

is a serious concern. Please be advised

that any use of unauthorized heating

elements such as clothing irons or elec-

trical heating coils used in cups or mugs

and any open flame such as candles is

not permitted in your stateroom.

Please note that smoking of any kind is

prohibited in Penthouses, staterooms and

on the verandahs. Should you smoke, all

cigarettes and cigars must be fully extin-

guished before being disposed of.

Please use only ashtrays or other recepta-

cles intended for this purpose to dispose

of all smoking materials. Never leave

smoking materials unattended.

To protect the environment, we also

request that you never throw anything

overboard from the ship’s open decks or

your balcony. Please do not leave towels or

other personal belongings on the veranda

when you are not in your stateroom.

Thank you for your kind attention.

Crystal Serenity’s Master Captain Egil Giske

Crystal Serenity’s Commander, Captain Egil Giske, was born and raised in Norway’s

central fjord country on a small island located on the west coast called Valderøya, with a

population of about 3,000. Appropriately, this island is

part of the Giske Community. The more familiar city to

Valderøya is Ålesund, where cruise ships pick up their

pilot to sail to the Geiranger Fjord.

“I started working on a fishing boat that sailed to

Newfoundland and Labrador,” tells the Captain of

his early years. He also spent two years working on

the local ferries. It didn’t take long before he was

“hooked” on sea life, and, after he served his military

service in Norway, he moved on to working on cargo

ships as an ordinary seaman.

Navigation school followed from 1982 to 1983,

which he attended in Ålesund. He returned to sea as

Second Officer and then First Officer on cargo ships

until he began his career on cruise ships, serving as

Navigation Officer on Sea Goddess.

He soon transferred to Windstar Cruises as a Navigation Officer. His desire to prog-

ress in a life at sea took him to Captain’s college in Ålesund from 1990 to 1991 where

he gained his Captain’s license. Returning to Windstar Cruises, he served as Chief Of-

ficer until 1992 when he joined a cargo ship in the same capacity that journeyed from

West Africa to the United States.

In 1994 he joined Crystal Cruises as First Officer Senior and Safety Officer. Egil Giske

became a Captain in 1995, and joined Seabourn Cruise line as full-time Captain in

1996. The new millennium fortunately brought Captain Giske back to Crystal Cruises

as Captain of the former Crystal Harmony until she was taken out of service in the fall

of 2005.

Most vacations find Captain Giske in Norway visiting family and friends. Captain

Giske has a son and daughter. His son is an electronic engineer and his daughter teach-

es Kindergarten in Giske Community. Both children enjoy a healthy outdoor lifestyle

which seems to run in the family. Captain Giske’s hobbies include sports, fishing and,

of course, sailing. Captain Giske’s growing family now includes one grandchild.

“There are so many wonderful and interesting places to cruise that it is hard to

select a favorite.” One of Captain Giske’s most memorable highlights was his first

time as Captain sailing around Cape Horn. He also enjoys the city of Buenos Aires as

a port of call for its food (the steak!), the tango shows and the people. As with all

Norwegian captains, he also looks forward to cruising the Norwegian Fjords.

Captain Giske has served Crystal Cruises admirably, and we look forward to many

years of happy sailing with such a young and talented Captain at the helm of

Crystal Serenity.

Can We Be of Further Assistance? If you have any concerns that we can

address during your cruise, please don’t

wait to let us know. On behalf of all of our

officers, staff and crew, we are committed

to doing everything we can to ensure this

is your most wonderful vacation.

Hubert Gesser Brings Color to The World, One Gemstone at a Time

Hubert Inc. primarily serves customers in the United States, although one third of its busi-ness is abroad. The company’s range is vast, accommodating the desires of a broad range of retailers, enthusiasts, and collectors with quality gem-set jewelry that provides great value

at every price level offered.

For nearly 25 years, Hubert Gesser has traveled the globe in search of nature’s most beautiful treasures. Throughout Africa, South America, the Far East and further, Hubert looks for the best the world has to offer in a spectrum of gemstones from classic blue sapphire to exotic Paraiba tourmalines.

Brazilian born and raised Hubert came to the United States when he was 18-years-old, attending the University of Cali-fornia, where he earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree for mechanical engineering. For about a year, he worked for a manufacturer producing aerospace and prototype missile parts, managing a 60-member staff. But when Hubert met someone who travelled the world importing gems, he decided without hesitation, to invest his then entire net

worth into loose gemstones which he could resell and distribute. This decision inspired a career change that he would build into a successful gem lapidary house and jewelry manufacturing company known today as Hubert Inc.

Hubert quickly learned how to develop a keen eye for beautiful color in both the most commonly known gems like amethyst, to rarities like natural color cherry topaz and alexan-drite. Moreover, he soon realized that more clients wanted finished jewelry, motivating him to build his skills as a designer and surround himself with expert cutters, goldsmiths and wax carvers to get the job done in his L.A. based studio. Eventually he learned firsthand the art of buying and faceting rough as well as the intricacies of handcrafting fine jewelry.

Although gemstones and jewelry seem like a far cry from his background in engineering, Hubert notes that his field of study gives him strength in problem solving, which has served him well, particularly when it comes to custom designs that account for more than 50 percent of his business. In addition to the beauty in the gems he sources, Hubert has remained fascinated by the interesting people he meets in the business, from artisan miners in the backcountry of Brazil, to regular jewelry connoisseurs, to royalty such as the Queen of Spain. The stories surrounding these gemstones build a lifetime of memories and symbolism for anyone who comes in contact with them.

All of Hubert’s designs are artistically and meticulously constructed, from fun fashion pieces, to one-of-a-kind designs. He is one of the few jewelers involved in every aspect of jewelry making. Although Hubert is the principal designer for the brand, the company also retains two additional designers on staff. “For me, the most inspiring pieces are the ones I do collaboratively with my private clients.”

Join us in Facets and view the fine jewelry collections from Hubert Gems.

MEET THE FITNESS DIRECTORS

Fitness Director Viktor MartinViktor was born in Hungary, a small country in the heart of Europe. He showed interest in sports since he was a child and

competed in many athletic events during his school years, whether it was basketball, soccer, swimming, Judo, boxing, rowing or triathlon. Later he graduated as an Economist and spent a few years in the financial field.

During these years he experienced how hard it is to maintain a healthy life. His lower back suffered from the office clerk’s sedentary lifestyle. After

finding a remedy in functional trainings and other exercises, he turned from athletic sports to fitness trainings and started to popularize them among the office employees. Viktor soon real-ized he felt more meaningful if he could help the general popula-tion to achieve a healthier lifestyle.

He quit his job and went to Sydney, Australia, to study at the Australian College of Sports and Fitness where he obtained Group Exercise Instructor and Personal Trainer qualification. During his years in Sydney, Viktor focused on the general population working in the Central Business District. He concentrated his personal training services on fat loss, injury prevention and rehabilitation.

Viktor also worked as an Instructor at Fitness First Australia. He is very proud that he worked in Australia’s most visited gyms. His popular classes combined the benefits of HIIT, functional training, metabolic conditioning and exercises inspired by athletic sports.

Viktor’s passion is to educate people about Exercising, Nutrition, Detoxification and Posture – how we can live a better, longer, healthier and happier life. “I don’t share the old “No Pain No Gain” dogma. I believe everybody should enjoy exercising. I want all the people to have fun while they are achieving a healthy, fit lifestyle. We all have the power to change our lives.”

Viktor shares his knowledge at free seminars and classes. His energy creates a fun environment during the Cycling, Yoga, Pilates, Conditioning and Stretching classes.

Watch Reflections for their fitness classes and seminars throughout the cruise.

Fitness Director Julian FuchsJulian is from Munich, Germany. His passion is to motivate

people and to push them to their limits. For Julian, it is the best

feeling if his clients leave the gym

with a smile.

Julian has been in the health,

fitness and nutrition industry for

the past seven years. He started his

apprenticeship in 2010 and received

different licences, including nutri-

tion, detoxification, posture analysis,

strength and conditioning, as well

as a diploma as a sport and health

trainer. After three years apprenticeship, he worked four years

for the same company as a personal trainer. Julian wanted

more, he wanted to see more of the world, see other countries,

experience other cultures and to train these people, with the

same results as in Germany; to see them smile after helping

them. He also wanted to speak English fluently and possibly other

languages. Julian wanted to grow from the experience. His motto

is “If you have fun with something, then you take it serious.“

He has been involved in sports his entire life and has tried every-

thing, but his passions are tennis and skiing. Julian played tennis

for 17 years, but after starting the apprenticeship, he stopped.

He has been skiing for 20 years and has competed as an

athlete in the sport for two years. He discovered a new passion;

dancing. He learned Shuffle and Hip Hop in a dancing school

for a short time, because of his work in the gym. He learned

dancing for himself and used a lot of time to become better. In

the gym he trains 3-5 times per week for more than an hour to

keep his body fit and healthy.

In his free time, he enjoys time with his friends, dancing in

clubs, watching movies and listening to music. His family lives in

Salzburg, Austria, and he has a little brother with an age differ-

ence of 20 years.
