increasing your value and impact

as a force for positive change.

We need an MBA that is meaningful. The University of Exeter Business School had the foresight to create the One Planet MBA. We know what we have to do to drive a more sustainable and inclusive kind of growth, what we now need is the willpower and leadership. That is why programmes like the MBA at Exeter are so important.

Paul Polman – CEO, Unilever

The University of Exeter Business School is part of an elite group of international accredited Business Schools and is considered to be one of the leading centres for management education in the UK.As Pro Vice-Chancellor and Executive Dean of the University of Exeter Business School I am excited to introduce you to The Exeter MBA. Six years ago we set ourselves a challenging task: to revolutionise MBA education by placing purposeful leadership and sustainability at the heart of a traditional MBA curriculum. The result was the launch of our acclaimed One Planet MBA.

A phenomenal innovation, the One Planet MBA was among the very first MBA programmes in the world to embed sustainability in the MBA curriculum. We won many awards and accolades: the One Planet MBA won the Highly Commended Award for Innovation from the Association of MBAs upon its launch in 2011, and is regularly ranked among the best MBA programmes in the world by the Aspen Institute, Corporate Knights and most recently CEO Magazine, demonstrating its success and potential to engage the world’s most talented people.

The Exeter MBA builds on our track record of leading innovation in the MBA market. The Exeter MBA is built around the very key set of values that have defined our One Planet MBA and our elite, Russell Group Business School: purposeful leadership, innovation, technology, knowledge and practice. We place academic excellence and rigour at the heart of everything we do. Founded on these core values, the Exeter MBA will ensure you develop as a purposeful leader capable of leveraging innovation and technology to promote good business.

We are seeking to attract a cohort of ambitious, talented individuals who share our ethos and values. If you would like to join that group we want to hear from you.

The Exeter MBA is built around the six core themes at the heart of the One Planet MBA:Purposeful leadership

The Exeter MBA emphasises the importance of reflective, conscious, purposeful leadership. Throughout the MBA, the leadership development module develops your skills to transform organisations, harness opportunity, create innovative business models and make the most of your potential. The Exeter MBA purposeful leadership programme is our lifetime commitment to you and to the positive contribution purposeful leadership can make for all of us.

Imagination

The Exeter MBA provides space to think and grow, to use the power of imagination, to develop big ideas and tackle global issues. Our message remains one of challenge, urgency, optimism and opportunity: to create positive change.

In “Leading in the 4th Industrial Revolution” module, you will create a technology project guided by technology entrepreneurs. Knowledge and practice

The Exeter MBA affirms its one planet principles through excellence in business practice and innovative business models. Your final MBA project, whether consultancy, entrepreneurship or intrapreneurship, puts principles in to practice with an MBA partner organisation, leveraging the experience of a partner mentor and the insight of an academic mentor.

Good business

Good business means human diversity and biodiversity, tolerance and engagement. Rigorous, scientific research confirms that these principles are also good business. The Exeter MBA is uncompromising in defending women’s and children’s rights and promoting a positive work environment.

The space to think and grow – strategically and creatively

The Exeter MBA Leading Business Education Building on the phenomenal success of the One Planet MBA, The Exeter MBA gives you space to think and grow - strategically and creatively. Exeter understands that business success and sustainability go hand in hand. As we work with entrepreneurs, again and again we find a direct link between meeting customer needs and achieving positive environmental and social impacts. The savviest entrepreneurs take this a step further; they have a holistic and borderless view of business; they are motivated by the urgency of addressing big challenges and engage with the technologies and networks that make innovation possible.

The Exeter MBA is a fascinating and important innovation, not because it is focused on sustainability but because it is focused on business, rethinking the lens for business, the way they set strategy, the way they organise themselves and consider themselves part of value chains and ecosystems, being able to be successful in the traditional business sense but also really delivering in tackling the global challenges that have been outlined by the United Nations’ sustainable development goals.

Peter Lacy – Global Managing Director, Accenture Strategy & Sustainability

I’m so thrilled to be studying the programme. The Exeter MBA has done a great job incorporating design thinking as a method to open our minds to different ways to explore business solutions. We’ve been pushed to work cross-culturally, constantly applying the art of listening to build constructive dialogues. This systemic understanding of relationships has built our personal resilience and will prove invaluable for our future in a complex society.

Throughout the duration of the programme you will take part in our Purposeful Leadership programme and work closely with our Careers Consultant to help you get ready for the next stage of your career. You will take part in extra-curricular activities and events, network with our corporate partners, employers and Exeter MBA graduates, and collaborate with amazing people of all backgrounds and industries while co-designing the solutions to the greatest challenges the world faces.

What you will study

The Corporate Challenge was an incredible, stimulating project that helped us balance the tension between our academic knowledge and practical skills. There was no blue-sky thinking: The solution had to be sustainable, it had to be smart and practical and above all, it had to be possible to execute. Working with a small brand meant Unilever could give our solution a try, see how it goes and, if successful, migrate to other brands.

Create positive change

My personal interest lies at the intersection of marketing and technology, and through the MBA’s focus on emerging business models I’ve been able to appreciate how technology and new business models can contribute to a more sustainable world. My MBA knowledge with blockchain, big data and artificial intelligence has opened many doors. The programme as a whole allowed me to identify opportunities in the market place to create value for companies while solving global business challenges. Indeed, this was my professional aspiration.
