program, have a nutrition makeover, begin a spiritual journey, take an in-depth look at your health – follow the

C A R D I O & S T R E N G T H G Y M Our workout facilities are equipped with computerized stationary bicycles, Technogym® cardio machines, Gravitron® equipment, Life Fitness® weight machines, free weights, stair machines, rowing machines and more. Headsets are available. For your safety, please feel free to ask for help or information from the fitness specialists who supervise these facilities from 8 am to 1 pm and 2 to 6 pm daily. Shoes and shirts are required. As a courtesy, please no perfume or cologne in the gym.

P O O L S Our 25-yard heated indoor lap pool (70 lengths = 1 mile) is located inside the Spa. Average water temperature is 82 degrees Fahrenheit. This pool is available for open-lap swimming except during scheduled aqua class times. The 50-foot, heated outdoor pool (106 lengths = 1 mile) is located just next to the Spa for use on a seasonal basis.

More than any resort or fitness center in the world; including classes, presentations, outdoor adventures, creative arts, cooking demos and more. Most are complimentary. D I S C O V E R Y O U R F I T N E S S A G E How old you are and how old you feel may be two different things. Your fitness age is an indication of how well your body is performing with the passage of time. By learning your fitness age in each of five areas, you’ll discover which areas stand to benefit most from your attention.

Part I – An exercise physiologist will administer the following tests:n Body composition to assess fat and lean muscle mass.

Please bring tight-fitting sports clothes or a bathing suit.n Submaximal exercise test to estimate aerobic fitness level and VO2 max.n Muscle strength and power testing, including upper and lower body.n Evaluation of balance.

50 minutes.

Part II – An exercise physiologist reviews your test results and consults with you to design a personalized fitness plan to improve your fitness age. 50 minutes.

E N H A N C E D P O S T U R E Poor posture may contribute to acute or chronic conditions that interfere with an active lifestyle, so it’s important to maintain correct alignment and balance in the way you sit, stand, walk and run. An exercise physiologist will use digital analysis to evaluate your biomechanics and will recommend stretches or strengtheners to help you comfortably perform the activities that mean the most to you. 50 minutes.

E X E R C I S E & M O T I VA T I O N Have you ever said, “I know what to do, but I just don’t do it”? Explore how your personality promotes or inhibits exercise. This focused, three-part service can help you reach your goals.

Part I – Complete a short questionnaire outlining your personal fitness preferences. 25 minutes.

Part II – With a lifestyle coach or licensed therapist, review your exercise history to identify keys to your past periods of success and vulnerability. 50 minutes.

Part III – Meet with an exercise physiologist for a customized program that “fits.” Together you’ll create a program that balances exercise for health and longevity with activities that suit your personality and style. 50 minutes.

P E R S O N A L I Z E D H I G H - I N T E N S I T Y T R A I N I N G The evidence supporting the health benefits of High Intensity Training is growing. If you think you are ready for some H.I.T. and you want help with a personalized plan, get tested by our exercise physiologist and reap the rewards of testing your limits.

n Regain lost muscle strength and power while benefitting the cardiovascular system.

n Understand which heart rates to reach for during H.I.T. workouts.

n Set up the training plan that will meet your personal needs.

M E T A B O L I C E X E R C I S E A S S E S S M E N T Determine your aerobic fitness level (VO2 max) and learn how many calories you really burn when you work out. Recommended if you want to change body composition, learn the most effective way to burn body fat, determine anaerobic threshold, increase stamina and fitness or improve sports performance.

Part I – An exercise physiologist administers a submaximal exercise test while you exercise on your choice of cardiovascular exercise equipment: elliptical trainer, rowing machine, stationary bike or treadmill. Note: This test cannot be performed in a pool.

50 minutes.

Part II – Your exercise physiologist will explain your results and design an exercise program to maximize your workout and enhance your training program. 50 minutes.

Optional – For the most comprehensive view of your fitness, complete a Pulmonary Function Test (lung evaluation) prior to the exercise test. 25 minutes.

C L I M B I N G F O R F I T N E S S Climb our rock wall for a great workout! It’s great for beginning to intermediate climbers.

H I G H R O P E S C H A L L E N G E C O U R S E Take on this exciting adventure under the guidance of our knowledgeable staff. The course offers many routes and is highly interactive, whether you traverse it one-on-one or with a group. From start to finish, you make all the decisions about your adventure. Limit six people.

L O O P S & L A D D E R STest yourself with these two physically demanding challenges on our Ropes Course – The Giant’s Ladder and the Space Loops.

Scheduled activities are posted on the Outdoor Sports Board. It’s important to sign up on the activity card and be at the

Outdoor Sports Desk 10 minutes prior to departure.

n If you plan to hike (and we hope you do), please bring hiking boots or snow boots, preferably broken-in. We do not furnish boots, which are required.

n Necessary equipment is provided (except footwear and clothing).

n Be sure to bring your water bottle and keep yourself properly hydrated. If you have any questions, call Outdoor Sports at Ext. 5535 between 8 am and 2 pm.

Note: In Massachusetts, deer hunting season starts the Monday after Thanksgiving and lasts two weeks. Hiking during that time is limited and restricted. We apologize for any inconvenience.

S H I N R I N Y O K U – C O M P L I M E N T A R YSometimes referred to as “forest bathing,” Shinrin Yoku is the Japanese practice of taking in the forest atmosphere. Join your guide on a slow, intentional walk in the woods to de-stress and connect with nature. You’ll find a meditative spot and relax as you are led into a conscious meditation.

T A I C H I H I K E – C O M P L I M E N T A R YExperience tai chi in an outdoor setting. Guides will lead you on a meditative hike with reflective pauses to learn controlled martial arts movements and heighten your chi – the life force or essence of your being.

B I O F E E D B A C KBiofeedback is a proven technology that uses many techniques to reduce tension, redirect negative thoughts and improve performance and other mind-body interactions. With a lifestyle coach or licensed therapist, you’ll choose between:

n Biofeedback to assess the level of stress across five parameters (breath, muscle tension, temperature, heart rate and skin response) and consider ways to reduce these responses. This service allows you to actually see the stress response as you experience it, and provides excellent physiological reactions. 100 minutes.

DEXA (Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry) is the same technology used for bone density measurement (may be arranged as a separate test for those interested). Although this test uses radiation, the amount is minimal. The radiation from 135 DEXA body composition measurements are equivalent to that from one chest X-ray.
