T-Shirt BLITZ… Think PINK!
By Jacob Nagelhout
Edward Town Middle School recently did a fundraiser for our 6th grade teacher Mrs. Miller. Mrs. Miller is currently undergoing treatment for cancer and we wanted to help support her by selling pink ribbon t-shirts for $5.50.
Students in each homeroom had the chance to purchase a t-shirt. The money and t-shirt sizes were collected and given to Mrs. Braham in room N212, Mrs. Lobaugh in room J204, and Mrs. Marotta in room M210.
The school's planning on having a “pink out” day in the month of December. We hope you will wear your pink shirts to help show support for our teacher, Mrs. Miller.
Clubs are Cool By Jacob Nagelhout
At Edward Town Middle School there are many clubs or events that are happening after
school that you can have fun at or more importantly you can socialize better. For exam-
ple, you can join clubs or events to socialize with other people and have a good time.
Also, when you start accomplishing things with your club you and your club will be hap-
py. Last of all, you can find out or learn new things. That is why its important that you get
involved with clubs and events.

ETMS has a Student in State Fair
ETMS Welcomes Mrs. Hammond!
by Michellynn Schroder
Michellynn Schroeder is an active
6th grade student on team 6-3.
She is in not only in jazz choir,
Builder's Club, newspaper club
and yearbook club; she is also a
very active Niagara County 4H
member that participates in
archery, the rabbit program,
public presentations, made it to
state level horse bowl, and her
mom is the co-leader of the north
east herd. She also has a minia-
ture horse she enjoys showing.
Michellynn entered many pro-
jects into the Niagara County 4-H
fair. The day before the fair she
was dropping her brother’s bun-
ny off. Her family went into the
building to cheek that her club’s
table was set up, but little did she
know that she was going to find
out that her project was going to
be in state fair! Michellyn was
not there for judging and her
mom was hesitating allowing her
to enter her EZ Groomer inven-
tion [made for West Street’s In-
vention Convention]. Michellynn
had a great time at the state fair
and received a blue ribbon for
her E-Z groomer.

continues issue to issue… can
YOU figure out who’s behind
these strange happenings at
ETMS? Read on for some clues!
Entry 1, Day 1, November 14th
2017, 3:00 p.m.
Today in Mrs. Jamieson’s sci-
ence class was the perfect
opportunity mess around with
the kids, because there was a
substitute. He he he… Anyway,
I went into the computer sys-
tems and messed around with
them. So this way at any point
in time, I could just scroll
around and mess them up and
aggravate them! It was so fun-
ny! Everyone was getting frus-
trated and mad! The best part
was that they didn’t know why
it was happening! Ha ha ha!
After I had some fun, the
school day was over. I snuck
out after all the kids were
gone. Ooh, I just heard some
Juicy Gossip!... well, I'll only tell
you some of it and then I'll
make you wait to hear the
rest! So, this kid… I don’t know
his name, but I heard his
phone was stolen from his
locker…
Who is behind the mysterious
phone disappearance? Look for
next month’s issue to find
more clues.

Is America really free? A Trail of Tears
An essay by Nicholas Thomas The Trail of Tears was the Native American removal so that the early U.S settlers could expand west and all the Natives suffered from the trail. Many died, the Cherokee deaths alone were 4,000 to maybe even 5,000. As you can tell this was a terrible event in history that really makes you mad at our “Free” land. What was happening was the Native’s were being driven from their homeland for early and greedy American settlers to expand west even though there were treaties against that, but we didn’t follow them. Do you see now how America was not always so great like it is now? And do you even want to know that that large part of the Native’s land was not enough for the settlers and their greed brought them to wanting to remove the NATIVES FROM THEIR OWN LAND that they did not really have any control over! The Native removal actually started after government officials have been talking about for a long time. It was very harsh, cruel, and terrible for the Native Americans and also expensive for the U.S. government but it was also a very inspiring event in history for many people. It took $5 million dollars to support the Cherokee alone when it was only estimated to cost $3 million dollars for all Native groups. Since this was looking like it would be a very big expense the presi-dent at the time cut off annual pays to the Native American groups. He also stopped all funds for missionaries. A lot of Choctaw people obeyed Native relocation, but some Natives hid in forest’s eastern to the Mississippi and if you did not obey the relocation you were beaten and arrested. A French social scientist named Alexis De Tocqueville traveled to the U.S. and wit-nessed how Natives were being treated and was inspired to write a book about it. Ultimately the main idea of this event in history was part of the Natives’ land was not enough for greedy American settlers so they had an idea, the idea was to relocate and remove Native Americans. The Natives were driven from their homes for our settlers to expand westward and treaties were broken. The removal was harsh, cruel, and terrible for Natives, and expensive for the U.S. government but an inspiring event in history.

Yum… A column about good treats and good eats!
by Olivia Barbarossa-Robinson
It’s Thanksgiving and what is one of the most
popular foods we like to eat on our day of
thanks? Cranberry sauce! Here is an easy recipe
you can do at home. (Parental assistance recom-
mended)
Empty a 12-ounce bag of fresh or frozen cranberries into a saucepan and transfer
1/2 cup to a small bowl. Add 1 cup sugar, 1 strip orange or lemon zest and 2 table-
spoons water to the pan and cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, until the
sugar dissolves and the cranberries are soft, about 10 minutes. ~Food Network

The ETMS Newspaper Makes a Return
Mrs. Bubar, Advisor
Now that clubs are expanding
at the middle school, we were
able to again start the newspa-
per club. This club gives stu-
dents the opportunity to put
out a monthly newsletter
which features articles, stories,
poems, and student generated
artwork as well as recipes, and
a brand new “serial story” by
student Abby Hatfield.
The Newspaper Club kids also
take turns every other week
doing morning announcements
opposite the Student Council
members.
We typically meet once a week
and publish our newsletter
once a month. It’s an exciting
time to be at ETMS.

We all remember the Nintendo Wii U
and 3DS. There was a social media ser-
vice made by Nintendo for these con-
soles. It was called Miiverse and used the
system’s Miis. You could talk about
games and ask for help to other users of
the consoles. Many games for the sys-
tems used these features for different
things. Splatoon would put people’s
drawings as graffiti in the levels. In Super
Mario Maker, you could post messages
on other people’s levels. In Smash Bros,
there was a Miiverse stage that would
show posts in the background. You may
think, “This sounds like fun! I want to get
a Miiverse account!” But, on November
7, 2017, Miiverse shutdown. It was very
disappointing to many people. Miiverse
started as a social platform for the sys-
tem to talk about games. Then, games
started to incorporate it into them. Now,
Nintendo has moved on from the Wii U.
They are still supporting the 3DS, just in
case their new Switch console fails out of
nowhere. However, the disappointed
people still got something. Nintendo
created an image of Amy, the Miiverse
mascot, with the words “thank you” and
the logo of Miiverse out of posts.
Miiverse may be shutting down, but with
the awesome new Nintendo Switch, I see
a bright future for Nintendo. Next week,
we will cover something happier, so stay
strong gamers. That’s it for this issues
Nintendo News.

Racism
By: Abigail Hatfield
Racism, is real - it’s everywhere. We see people of color - stop, and stare
Red, yellow, black, or white,
Are we different, or are we really alike? Calling each other hateful names, I sit by and watch, feeling ashamed, Separated: red, yellow, black, and white
My world, turned to hate from this terrible plight.
Why can’t we see that we are all the same?
Although, when I reflect, aren’t we all to blame?
