Comments about Lamar’s passing from the Keith Kelley Club’s

Facebook page as of 6:00 a.m. today, Thursday the 29th. Abraham Raoof: Gone way too soon. Served our country, communities, and Santa Theresa high school. “We will hold the line from here.”

David Seminatore: He had a good sense of humor. Margie Thompson: Another one of our Blue Brothers gone too soon. Rest in Peace, Sgt. Lemar Dunson.

Michael Nagel: RIP Lemar. Michael W. Ross: Rest in Peace brother. David Madsen: RIP my brother. Tori DelliCarpini: Rest in peace Sgt. Dunson. My heart goes out to your family. Victoria Napolitano: Lemar was one of those people who always had a smile for me. I can still hear him saying, "Hey Victoria." I'm sick to hear of this. R.I.P. The good ones always get taken first. Wilfredo Montano: What a loss! RIP Sgt. Dunson! Vivian C Gonzalez: Wow I hadn’t heard. I’m in shock. Terrible news! My heart goes out to his family! Paul Gardner: RIP Lamar. John Kensit: RIP Lamar. Positive thoughts for your family and friends during this difficult time. Tena Boles: Prayers for your soul. I’m so sorry. 51yrs old and set to retire in January. You had earned your way and life just cut short. Not fair. Martinelli Assoc: I am saddened to hear of the untimely passing of Sgt. Lamar Dunson. I was his primary FTO when he came on the job at SJPD. From the outset, I found Lemar to be of the highest quality of recruits. Before coming on The Job, Lemar had been in a security unit of the USAF as I recall and his unit had won many citations for their work product and devotion to duty. He was one "strak" recruit. In fact, I had to always check myself to make sure that our uniforms looked identical in quality and cleanliness. (LOL). Lemar was a body builder and constantly worked out. We would work out together in the gym and I ended up getting some great tips from him. The guy didn't have a 6-pack; he had a 12-pack. He was always wanting to learn more about police work and how to process a scene for evidence. I had a great time with him improving his fingerprinting skills. It was so much fun just to be in the car with him running to calls. I always knew this special young man had my back. We had his first 211 in progress together with shots fired at the 7-11 store in Dist King that was next to the freeway at around 12th

St. & Williams. The perps had already fled the scene, but they had shot up the place. He got so excited photographing the bullet holes in the cold closets. I think I may still have that photo in a box somewhere. This officer was destined to do good. I was proud of him when I learned he had been promoted. He was the very BEST recruit I ever trained and I trained a lot of them back then. Godspeed and following seas, Lemar. I am sure going to miss your smile, laugh and enthusiasm for The Job. You always made me proud. Ron Martinelli SJPD #1854 Patrick Boyd: I worked with Lamar in the gang unit. What a good guy. I still remember his Wedding, What a great time. I’m shocked and very sad. RIP brother. Denise G Smith Martin: R.I.P. Sgt. Dunson, the Angels have you now. My thoughts and prayers are with your family during this difficult time. Felipe Flores: Rest in peace Lamar. Your place in heaven has been secured. May God send his comforter to be with your family. Mike Bielecki: I am sad to hear of Lemar’s passing. I had the opportunity to spend time with him a number of years ago when Lemar and his son visited us in Minnesota. We spent the week he was here fishing. Lemar was quite the fisherman who loved the sport. He will be sadly missed. RIP Michael Hahn: Lemar was always smiling and was a tough cop. Rest in peace, friend.

MAIL CALL

This is a follow-up to last week’s letter from Russ Russell about questions asked by Hope for Paws when Russ tried to sign up to donate. Everything has since been straightened out.

Nov. 23rd

Loreta and Eldad: I am getting ready to start my donation, each month to Hope for Paws. You have an outstanding entity, and it is very admirable for you to help the little animals. My donation will begin on December 1st, and I will donate every month. For info, I am retired from the San Jose PD. I read all about Hope for Paws in our weekly publication called the "Farsider,” published by two other SJPD retirees, Bill Mattos and Leroy Pile. Each week I read about Hope for Paws and watched your videos within that weekly newsletter. Bill and Leroy do an outstanding job promoting your program.

Keep up the good work, and continue to take care of the little ones who have no others to care for them. Russ L. Russell <[email protected]> Henderson, NV PS: I have a pure long-haired German Shepherd, 3 years old, and she cares and watches over me daily. Russ’ letter resulted in a response from Loreta, who assists Eldad in running the organization… Hi Russ, It's Loreta...I wanted to share one of my favorite rescues from earlier this year. Have you watched our rescue of Candy, Skittles, Hershey, Bubblegum and Licorice? This rescue happened totally by accident. A couple of kids called us about two dogs who were crying in the L.A River, and after accomplishing that rescue successfully, we turned to check on a dog I spotted in a local park. We didn't have the proper equipment for this rescue, so we had to do a 3 hour round trip to come back and save them.

Bill, First things first — a true TV story; the short version. Some time ago the series “Law and Order” ran this story: The cops caught the bad guy — a 16-year-old youth — for murdering his parents. They had him examined by a psychologist who then determined the youth was a sociopath and would kill again if let free. The judge in this case was not convinced, and wanted to give the offender a second chance. So he ordered the D.A. to find a suitable family or group home for him. He

Page 7: The Farsider€¦ · The Farsider Nov. 29, 2018 Bill Mattos, Editor and Publisher Leroy Pyle, Webmaster The Farsider is an independent

would then be under the supervision of a juvenile probation officer, but would be able to have a semi-normal life; attend high school, participate in school activities and such. The D.A. strenuously disagreed, but in the end his arguments fell on deaf ears, and he was compelled to follow the judge's instructions. Two weeks later back in the courtroom, the judge sternly looked at the D.A. and wanted to know if his instructions had been followed. The D.A. nodded and explained that a suitable home had been obtained. The house was located five houses down from where the judge lived, and the youth offender would be attending the same high school as the judge’s two daughters. The judge became visibly unsettled and could not speak for a few seconds. When he recovered, he announced that he had given the matter more serious consideration, and as such he ordered the offender to be immediately transferred and incarcerated in the prison system for a long sentence. Just like the judge in this story, politicians do not want illegal people, illegal criminals, undocumented gang members, or terrorists living next to their homes, in their high rise condos, going to their schools, walking in their neighborhoods, or mixing with their children. They don't want any part of those scenarios. They just want them living next to you or me. Part two next week. Take care, Dave (Scannell) <[email protected]>

Bill, I just read your weekly newsletter. Once again, what a true masterpiece that you and Leroy create on a weekly basis that entertains 100s of people. Feel free to use this information if you so desire. In regards to the 800-word dissertation written by “Middle Ground,” I can remember when you used to BEG your readers to submit information for publication in the Farsider. I truly hope Middle Ground, Red State and others continue submitting for publication their incredible writings no matter their length or the position they hold. It is my understanding this is called freedom of the press. Your readers are not being forced to read the data are they? I am rather confused why some of your submissions are submitted using a Cover Name. These writers must not realize how our High School Wiz Kids are taught on a daily basis how to identify and uncover these different people, and develop other computer skills that will make your toenails curl. The Russians and Chinese have nothing on these High School Kids who are also Chinese, Russian, Middle Eastern and Caucasian.

Page 8: The Farsider€¦ · The Farsider Nov. 29, 2018 Bill Mattos, Editor and Publisher Leroy Pyle, Webmaster The Farsider is an independent

In regards to Ron Martinelli’s letter, I was quite amazed to read his comments. Ron joined SJPD one year after I arrived in 1976. He was a Great Cop, always striving on a daily basis to take one gun and one ounce of dope off the streets of San Jose. He was also solving a lot of Residential Property Crimes by using good old police interview techniques and shoe leather. God Bless Ron and his 10 gallon Cowboy Hat that he now wears in S. Texas. Like Ron, I left SJPD to go into private enterprise in the early 1980s. However, I never left California to move back to my Home State of Texas where everything is BIG! Due to my privately owned business, however, I was required to commute back and forth to Texas on many different occasions for 20+ years. I also had many different customers in S. California that required many trips via SWA. How Ron described Texas in comparison to California made me wonder and reflect on my own personal experiences. Ron’s comments about California today are somewhat true, but not totally in comparison to Texas. In regards to a job in Law Enforcement in the Great State of Texas, forget the idea. Today, a Top Step Dallas Police Officer makes approximately $65,000 per year while the surrounding jurisdictions make less. The benefits and retirement programs also are less than in California. Other First Responders work in similar negative circumstances! Living in San Antonio where Ron resides is not really like living in Dallas, Houston, Austin or El Paso. Those four cities are true Texas communities that resemble LA, San Diego, SF, and Sacramento. Ron described S. Texas much like heaven on earth and he goes on to promote Texas as the last Great State of the Union. This is the phenomenon that they teach school students in Texas starting in the 1st grade. I know because I was there. “Friday Night Lights” has been a main stay in Texas since I was in High School. Fly into Dallas on a Friday night during the fall and you will be amazed at how many lit up High School Football Stadiums you will see. I attended Cowboy Football games back in the days of the Cotton Bowl. No one had ever heard of Jerry Jones or America’s Team. No one would have ever thought that America’s Team would be worth $10 Billion according to the current owner, Jerry Jones. Cowboy’s Stadium in Irvine, Texas was nothing more than a dream in 1973. In Year 2015 Jerry Jones then went on to build AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas with all of its lavish Art Works. Currently the highways in Dallas, Austin, El Paso, and Houston are very much like Highways 101, 280, 80, 680, and 580 here. They are congested and slow, with people who do not know how to drive and full of potholes that we are being taxed here to fix. Many different highway flyovers in Texas are under constant construction at 12 noon each weekday which slows commuter traffic. They have one highway that circles the entire Dallas Metroplex. One particular highway from N. Dallas to Oklahoma City has one particular area in N. Dallas known as the Billion Dollar Mile. In excess of $1 Billion Dollars is being spent on Commercial Real Estate Expansion in this particular location. New Residential Housing is going nuts in the Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) Metroplex. Yes, during the summer nights you can go out and jump into your backyard swimming pool at 10 p.m. wearing nothing more than your birthday suit. The only thing that you

Page 9: The Farsider€¦ · The Farsider Nov. 29, 2018 Bill Mattos, Editor and Publisher Leroy Pyle, Webmaster The Farsider is an independent

must remember is to turn on the pool lights and look for Water Moccasin Snakes swimming in your pool. Water Moccasins can ruin your night depending on where they bite you on your birthday suit. Rattle Snakes can also cause you a tremendous amount of pain when they bite you on the ankle. When you are mowing the yard be sure not to step on a Red Ant Nest on the ground. You will be dancing like you have never danced before. The Chiggers and Mosquitos will also eat you alive during the summer evenings while trying to eat outside after you have cooked the Ribs, Brisket, and Chicken and you are trying to wash it down with a glass of Sweet Tea. The bees will attack you when you are trying to devour a piece of Cold Sweet Watermelon from E. Texas. The Potato Sweet Pie and Black Eye Peas are to die for. Ron was 110 percent correct that the State of Texas has no personal taxes like California. However, if you live in one of the very successful school districts your residential property taxes will be 25-50% higher than in the rest of the state. It does not matter that you are a grandparent and have no children, the property taxes are simply going to be higher than California. The State of Texas does not have Prop 13 Tax Shelters that many Californians have had the pleasure of living under for the past 20-30+ years. You will run your A/C 24/ 7 during the summer and have a $500 monthly invoice. Your Heating Invoice in the Winter will be $400.00 per month. Also understand that the “Blue Law” is still in existence in certain areas of the State of Texas. The Blue Law prohibits citizens from shopping on Sundays due to the heavy influence of the Baptist religion in the State. What is WORSE is that various sections of Texas are still “Dry Counties,” even within major metropolitan cities like Dallas. Quite simply, forget about buying a Budweiser in these counties. Hard Liquor and Wine is also a No-No! However, you can go to many different restaurants and carry a cooler under your arm. You can then drink your own favorite alcohol refreshment at your table. This is true BYOB! Last but not least is the great weather in Texas during the months of “April” and “October." In the winter months Black Ice on the roads creates havoc for all drivers. Kids do not go outside on December 25 to ride their new bikes and scouters due to the cold, wind and snow. In El Paso, golfers have to check the Wind Index that measures the number of feet that you can see in front of you when they have heavy duty dust storms. These dust storms will sand blast the paint off your car. In the months of August, September and October, be prepared to be hit by hail the size of golf balls. Many brand new car dealers sell new cars at a heavy discounted price when the new cars have many dents due to these Hail Storms. In the months of March to July the LIGHTING may be pretty to watch, but it's scary as hell when it strikes the ground near you. Have you heard about the Hurricanes and Tornadoes that have recently landed in Texas starting in the Gulf of Mexico? In conclusion, Bill, Texas is a great place to live as Ron describes. However, California is also on top of the list even with its Earthquakes and Wild Fires. Thanks Dave (Clayton) <[email protected]> Sure glad computers have a “copy and paste” feature, Dave. There’s little question that I would have developed a major league case of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome had it been

Page 10: The Farsider€¦ · The Farsider Nov. 29, 2018 Bill Mattos, Editor and Publisher Leroy Pyle, Webmaster The Farsider is an independent

necessary to typeset your missive using a typewriter. On the other hand, thanks for sending it in. Despite all the shortcomings the state of "New California" has, I think I'll stay put!

Bill, I’m not sure if you are familiar with Tucker Carlson, but I think you mentioned in the past that you are. He has made many enemies on the left because of his conservative views. In the attached video from Oct. 29th he claims that Illegal Immigration is all about power, and I agree with every word that comes out of his mouth. Of course the Democrats want to open the border to all comers because they know the vast majority will vote for Democrats and provide them with a permanent power base. I would like you to include the video if you can. Middle Ground may respond and tell your readers how disreputable Prager University is, but I doubt he can provide evidence that Tucker is wrong. Keep doing what you and Leroy are doing. Thursdays would be extremely dull if I couldn’t spend an hour wading through the Farsider. Talking Points <[email protected]> For the record, TP, I’m a fan of Tucker Carlson’s, if for no other reason that he drives the extreme left (including Antifa) absolutely insane with his clear, concise and common sense views. Readers can click HERE to view the clip you sent in. And you were not the only one; it was also received from Joe Suske.

MEDIA PUNDITS AGHAST AT THE GASSING OF MIGRANTS HAVE SHORT MEMORIES

Border Patrol: Crowd Confronts Agents

Border Patrol agents respond to a crowd one-eighth of a

mile north of the U.S.-Mexico border in the Tijuana River

channel. / U.S. Customs and Border Protection photo

By Susan Shroder and Elizabeth Aguilera — Contact Reporters

Nov. 25, 2013 — The San Diego Union-Tribune

A group of about 100 people trying to illegally cross the border Sunday near the San Ysidro port of entry threw rocks and bottles at U.S. Border Patrol agents, who responded by using pepper spray and other means to force the crowd back into Mexico, federal officials said. The incident has raised concerns among advocates on both sides of the immigration debate, as well as Border Patrol representatives. Immigrant-rights groups in San Diego said they didn’t know beforehand about the plan to rush the border, and they worry that desperation is driving homeless deportees to make a bold bid to rejoin their families in the United States. Border-security groups see this situation as evidence that the border remains unsecured, something they said should be fixed before Congress considers proposals to grant legal status to unauthorized immigrants. And Border Patrol representatives worry that Sunday’s confrontation could be a political protest, which they said agents want to avoid — especially when it involves the potential for loss of life. The incident occurred about a quarter-mile west of the San Ysidro border crossing in the Tijuana River channel. No one was seriously injured, no shots were fired and no arrests were made, said Mary Beth Caston, a Border Patrol spokeswoman. The group first approached a lone agent stationed about 1/8 of a mile north of the border. They ignored his commands to stop, so he fired pepper balls to try to stop them and protect himself, Caston said.

Page 17: The Farsider€¦ · The Farsider Nov. 29, 2018 Bill Mattos, Editor and Publisher Leroy Pyle, Webmaster The Farsider is an independent

As the crowd kept advancing and throwing rocks and bottles, she said, more agents came to the scene and used other “intermediate use-of-force devices” to push back the group. The agents also contacted Mexican law enforcement. Tijuana’s top police officer, Public Safety Secretary J. Alberto Capella, said “There is no information that we can provide.” He referred questions to the U.S. Border Patrol. The spokesman for Tijuana police, Rafael Morales, said the agency’s officers did not intervene and had no knowledge of the incident. Caston said several agents were struck in the arms and legs with rocks, and that one agent was hit in the head with a filled water bottle. “While attacks on Border Patrol agents are not uncommon, the agents showed great restraint when faced with the dangers of this unusually large group, and fortunately no one was serious injured,” said Paul Beeson, San Diego sector chief for the Border Patrol. The agency did not specify the time of Sunday’s incident. This type of rush on the border has not been seen since the late 1980s and early ’90s, when groups of border-crossers would run into the U.S. while agents tried to apprehend as many people as possible. The practice mostly disappeared after Operation Gatekeeper began in 1994 and brought with it tall fences, walls and more agents. “If it was a protest, it was a really stupid way to go about it because there were individuals who started throwing rocks and other projectiles,” said Shawn Moran, vice president of the National Border Patrol Council. “It’s not the right venue; agents do not enact legislation, don’t write laws or write polices. If protesters want to address Congress and try to change laws, so be it.” Local border-security advocates were on edge Monday about the incident. “Obviously, these attempted mass crossing and attacks on our border agents show that our border is not secure,” said Jeff Schwilk of the San Diegans for Secure Borders Coalition. “All the talk in Washington this year of another amnesty for 12 to 20 million illegal immigrants is just encouraging more desperate foreigners to enter our country illegally.” Immigrant-rights advocates said they doubt the mass rush was organized. Christian Ramirez, human rights director for the Southern Border Communities Coalition, said he does not believe the move could have been a strategic protest. He views it as an act of desperation on the part of deportees who have been pushed to live around the river in makeshift camps or those who are set up in other migrant camps in the city. These are deportees who face the most challenging situations, he and other immigrant advocates said. Many do not speak Spanish, have no roots in Mexico, have criminal records or tattoos and cannot find jobs or get registered in Mexico. Most are homeless and live in makeshift camps that have sprouted up in and around the river.

Page 18: The Farsider€¦ · The Farsider Nov. 29, 2018 Bill Mattos, Editor and Publisher Leroy Pyle, Webmaster The Farsider is an independent

The incident raises questions again about how Border Patrol responds in such situations and if it adheres to its use-of-force policies. The agency has not released its policies despite numerous requests to do so after several high profile deaths. “Because of the growing instances in which Border Patrol has been involved in this sort of use-of-force that it’s important for the agency to be transparent,” Ramirez said. “To report to the public exactly what went on and to report what weapons were used.” Advocates acknowledge the restraint agents used under the circumstances but they still have concerns given the agency’s recent decision to continue to use deadly force against rock throwers. This despite an outside review that recommended the agency rethink that approach. On Monday, a group of congressional members sent a letter to the agency asking for more clarity regarding use-of-force policies.

London Police Target “Moped Bandits” by Driving Into Them in New Crime-Fighting Tactic

By Lucie Suarez Sang — Fox News

London police say their tough tactic of ramming violent “thieves” off their moped as they flee has helped bring down crime in the city. Scotland Yard released a video Friday showing a team of specially trained drivers knocking suspects off their mopeds and motorcycles, saying offenders will be targeted “at every opportunity.” “Offenders on mopeds and motorcycles who attempt to evade the police are making a choice that puts themselves and others at risk,” Commander Amanda Pearson said in a statement. “So our message is clear: we can, we will, and we do target those involved in moped and motorcycle crime at every opportunity.”

According to Scotland Yard, moped and motorcycle-related crime went down 36 percent between January and October in comparison to the same time frame in 2017. “Moped crime can happen at any time of the day or night,” authorities said. “Victims are often targeted as they come out of the (subway) stations or at transport hubs. Thieves also snatch handbags, high-value watches, and other items.” Meanwhile, police across the United Kingdom are fighting rising numbers of knife-related crimes. During the first six months of the year, police recorded 29,332 knife crime offenses — a 12 percent increase over last year, according to the Office for National Statistics. Other violent crimes, including murder and robbery, also increased by double-digit percentages.

WAS CHIEF JUSTICE ROBERTS WRONG TO CRITICIZE TRUMP OVER HIS "OBAMA COURT" COMMENT?

Washington Post Columnist Marc Thiessen served as speechwriter for President George W. Bush (2004–09) and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld (2001–06). He also appears frequently on various Fox News programs. This column appeared on the Op/Ed pages of Tuesday’s Mercury News, and in the opinion of the Farsider Editorial Board, Thiessen nailed it!

Chief Justice Roberts Is Wrong About Our Judges

By Marc A. Thiessen — Columnist

Mercury News — Nov. 27, 2018

WASHINGTON — For someone trying to demonstrate that the judiciary is not political, getting into a political fight with the president sure is a funny way to do it. After President Trump called a judge who ruled against him an “Obama judge,” Chief Justice John Roberts issued an extraordinary public rebuke of the president, declaring in a statement, “We do not have Obama judges or Trump judges, Bush judges or Clinton judges.” Roberts was not only wrong to speak out, but also his claim that there are no Obama judges or Trump judges was wrong. If we do not have Obama judges or Trump judges, then why did Senate Republicans block President Barack Obama’s nomination of Merrick Garland to replace the late Justice Antonin Scalia in the final year of Obama’s term? And why did Democrats filibuster Trump’s nominee, Neil Gorsuch, to fill Scalia’s seat? If there were no Obama judges or Trump judges, then why did Anthony Kennedy wait for Trump’s election to announce his retirement? And why doesn’t Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg just retire now and let Trump nominate her replacement? Because they both want a president who would appoint a successor who shares their judicial philosophy. The American people know that Roberts is wrong. In the 2016 election, exit polls showed that 70 percent of voters said Supreme Court appointments were either the most important or an important factor in deciding their vote.

Chief Justice John Roberts pushed back against

President Trump’s description of a judge who ruled

against the administration as an “Obama judge.”

Roberts is correct that we should not have “Trump judges” or “Obama judges.” It would be better for the country if every judge, , regardless of which president nominated him

Page 21: The Farsider€¦ · The Farsider Nov. 29, 2018 Bill Mattos, Editor and Publisher Leroy Pyle, Webmaster The Farsider is an independent

or her, strictly interpreted our laws and the Constitution. But the reality is that not all do. Democratic presidents have been much more successful than Republicans in nominating judges who hew to their judicial philosophy. Over the past three decades, nearly half of all Republican Supreme Court nominees have either become “swing votes” (Sandra Day O’Connor, Kennedy) or defected to the court’s liberal bloc entirely (David Souter). Even Roberts has joined the court’s liberal bloc at key times, to provide the swing vote to uphold Obamacare. By contrast, not one liberal justice during the past three decades has defected to the conservative bloc or turned into a regular swing vote. This applies even more to the appellate courts. Trump is right, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit is a disgrace. It has ruled that the phrase “under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance was unconstitutional, that the Second Amendment doesn’t recognize an individual right to bear concealed arms and that bans on assisted suicide are unconstitutional. This is why it is so important that Trump has nominated, and the Senate has confirmed, a record number of district and circuit court judges — and why liberals are aghast. As former Hillary Clinton adviser Ronald Klain complained, “Trump’s judicial nominees will be deciding the scope of our civil liberties and the shape of civil rights laws in the year 2050 — and beyond.” We do have an independent judiciary. Judges are not beholden to any president, including the one who appoints them. The judiciary plays a key role in our system of checks and balances. “Trump judges” should rule against Trump when he is wrong. Roberts is right that our “independent judiciary is something we should all be thankful for.” Rolling around in the rhetorical mud with Trump is not just bad form; it also undermines the very judicial independence Roberts is seeking to uphold.

Europe Raises its Alert Levels Due to the Syrian Civil War

The English are feeling the pinch in relation to recent events in Syria and have therefore raised their security level from “Miffed” to “Peeved.” Soon, though, security levels may be raised yet again to “Irritated” or even “A Bit Cross.” The English have not been “A Bit Cross” since the blitz in 1940 when tea supplies nearly ran out. Terrorists have been re-categorized from “Tiresome” to “A Bloody Nuisance.” The last time the British issued a “Bloody Nuisance” warning level was in 1588, when they were threatened by the Spanish Armada. The Scots have raised their threat level from “Pissed Off” to “Let’s get the Bastards.” They don’t have any other levels. This is the reason they have been used on the front lines of the British army for the last 300 years. The French government announced yesterday that it has raised its terror alert level from “Run” to “Hide.” The only two higher levels in France are “Collaborate” and “Surrender.” The rise was precipitated by a recent fire that destroyed France‘s white flag factory, effectively paralyzing the country’s military capability. Italy has increased the alert level from “Shout Loudly and Excitedly” to “Elaborate Military Posturing.” Two more levels remain: “Ineffective Combat Operations” and “Change Sides.” The Germans have increased their alert state from “Disdainful Arrogance” to “Dress in Uniform and Sing Marching Songs.” They also have two higher levels: “Invade a Neighbor” and “Lose.” Belgians, on the other hand, are all on holiday as usual; the only threat they are worried about is NATO pulling out of Brussels. The Spanish are all excited to see their new submarines ready to deploy. These beautifully designed subs have glass bottoms so the new Spanish navy can get a really good look at the old Spanish navy. Australia, meanwhile, has raised its security level from “No worries” to “She’ll be alright, Mate.” Two more escalation levels remain: “Crikey! I think we’ll need to cancel the barbie this weekend!” and “The barbie is canceled.” So far no situation has ever warranted use of the last final escalation level. As a final thought, Greece is collapsing, the Iranians are getting aggressive, and Rome

One morning at the Truck Stop

From the Archives

A trucker came into a Truck Stop Cafe' and placed his order. He told the blonde waitress, "I want three flat tires, a pair of headlights and a pair of running boards." Not wanting to appear stupid, the brand new blonde waitress went to the kitchen and said to the cook, "This guy out there just ordered three flat tires, a pair of headlights and a pair of running boards. What does he think this place is, an auto parts store?" "No, said the cook, three flat tires mean three pancakes; a pair of headlights is two eggs sunny side up; and a pair of running boards are 2 slices of crisp bacon! "Oh, OK," said the blonde. She thought about it for a moment and then spooned up a bowl of beans and set it down in front of the trucker. "What are the beans for, Blondie?" he asked. She replied, '"I thought while you were waiting for the flat tires, headlights and running boards, you might want to gas up!"

So Pa mosied out to the outhouse, looked around and yelled back, "There ain't nuthin' wrong with the outhouse." "Ma replied, "Stick yur head in the hole!" Pa yelled back, "I ain't stickin' my head in that hole!" "Ma said, "Ya have to stick yur head in the hole to see what to fix." So Pa stuck his head in the hole, looked around and yelled back, "I'm tellin' ya, there ain't nuthin' wrong with this outhouse!" Ma hollered back, "Now take your head out of the hole!" Pa proceeded to pull his head out of the hole and immediately began yelling, "Owww...my beard is stuck in the cracks in the toilet seat!" Ma replied,"Hurts, don't it?"

This week’s Lip Sync Challenge entries…

To start, how could we not give the BUTTE Co. S/O that posted its entry in July a solid 10 when you consider the challenge they would be facing in a couple of months? Besides, we love the song selection and they were damn good! (4:16)

From Northern California we travel east to North Carolina to check out the BOONE Police Department’s entry. According to the description, “Nelson Aerial Productions has done a fantastic job of putting together a video of a bunch of crazy cops trying to lip-sync while having a good time with their friends and neighbors in the Boone area.” Score: 8.8. (4:02)

Now we’re back on the West Coast where a TULARE PD motor unit pulls over a biker and starts to give him a one-of-a-kind sobriety test. At least that’s how this challenge begins. Score: 8.8 (4:40)

Hope for Paws

We have now come full circle by having run virtually every Hope for Paws story that has been produced by Eldad, the founder of the Southern California animal rescue organization. The first story we presented dates back to the Oct. 13, 2014 Farsider. In the beginning we presented a single story at a time. Then in mid 2017 we began expanding the rescue stories to 4 or 5 each week because there were so many. Hope for Paws usually posts one story each week on YouTube; and in rare instances, two. The one below was posted on Monday of this week and is a compilation of some of the organization’s past rescues. Now that we are caught up, we will update the rescue stories as they are created, so instead of the four or five we have been presenting, there will only be one, or possibly two.

But once they appear, a click on any of them will play the clip. If you skipped over the Mail Call column above, you may want to scroll back up and review Russ Russell's letter. It is also about Hope for Paws.
