This means that your maths work will depend on which sheets you completed last week. If you have done the work on tenths and equivalent fractions, please move on to White Rose week 6. If you have done the work on Adding and Subtracting Fractions and Fractions of Quantities please go back to White Rose week 5. This plan offers support for White Rose Week 6 about adding and subtracting fractions. On Monday and Tuesday we are practising adding and subtracting fractions, which we have done in class before so should be ok. Remember, we only add or subtract the top number; the bottom number stays the same. The top number is called the numerator and the bottom number is called the denominator. On Wednesday and Thursday we are practising finding fractions of amounts. Remember you need to divide by the denominator and times by the numerator All week you may find the fraction wall and the multiplication square below useful. It might be a good idea Daily reading for at least 15 minutes per day. This can be online, books, comics, magazines, newspapers etc. Remember to complete the quizzes on accelerated reader when you finish a book. VIEW

This week is a little different because the wrong

maths sheets were sent out last week. This means

that your maths work will depend on which

sheets you completed last week.

If you have done the work on tenths and

equivalent fractions, please move on to White

Rose week 6.

If you have done the work on Adding and

Subtracting Fractions and Fractions of Quantities

please go back to White Rose week 5.

This plan offers support for White Rose Week 6

about adding and subtracting fractions. It might be a good idea

This week, our activities will be based on the following picture:

MON ADDING FRACTIONS Watch the video and then answer the questions. https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-4/ TOP TIP: Remember, 2+3 IS ALWAYS 5, it doesn’t matter if you’re adding the number of cats, dogs, cabbages, tenths, hundredths, fifths…..The numbers still behave the same way. Remember, when we add fractions, the bottom number stays the same. When the fraction becomes top heavy (the numerator is greater than the denominator) this means it is more than 1

You could also use the fraction wall below or the website with interactive fractions to help you work out the answer. https://mathsbot.com/manipulatives/fractionWall

TUES SUBRACTING FRACTIONS Watch the video and then answer the questions. https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-4/ TOP TIP: Remember, when we subtract fractions the denominator stays the same. In question 2, this will be particularly useful. Don’t let the bigger numbers scare you. Diagrams and the fraction wall will be really useful to you today, especially for question 8.

When we use speech to show the dialogue between two people, we also have to include narrative in it (the part that is still telling the story.) Activity 4 Look at the paragraph on Thursday’s resource sheet. I have highlighted the first part of the narrative. Please highlight the rest of the narrative in the paragraph. Activity 5 Add some narrative to the conversations you wrote from the speech bubbles yesterday.

FRI Friday Challenge

Resource for Thursday Example of a conversation between the dragon and the boy including narrative. The child jumped as the huge head rose from behind the wall. The creature’s skin was rough and his teeth were alarmingly sharp but there was kindness in his eyes. “My name is Theodore,” the small boy whispered bravely. “I live in the castle with my mother. She’s the cook for the King and Queen.” “Mmmmmm really?” the dragon asked. “Does that mean you get all the left overs?” The dragon’s stomach rumbled loudly. “Oh yes, in fact look what I have in my pocket!” the child answered. Carefully he pulled a white cotton cloth from his pocket and unwrapped it. Inside the cloth was a pile of soft, white, fluffy marshmallows. “If you could find a stick, I could toast those for you,” the dragon suggested, smiling. “Oh yes please!” replied the boy. “If you could toast them for me, I would happily share them with you dragon!” “My name is Ember,” the creature replied shyly.
