Bus Route Expansion and Multimodal Solutions Along US-12 Corridor
Overview
Methodology
Recommendations
Future Considerations
Proposed Routes
Data Analysis
• Bus Route: Based on the AHP Web Analysis, the YTC-St. Joesph Route is the recommended route because it received a higher score.
• Multimodal: The team recommends an off road asphalt bike path running along US-12 from the Platt Ave. intersection to downtown Saline (4.8 miles)
• MECC Collaboration: The recommended route would
• Increase livability in Urban Planning’s “cold” neighborhoods
• Enhance transportation options which is one of Public Health’s key indicators for community health
• Enhance connectivity to future inter-county routes by sharing bus stops and consolidating payment medium
• Expansion of US-12 to allow for super stops, park and ride lots, and safer pedesterian crossings and bus loading areas

• US-12 (Michigan Avenue) is a 10 mile stretch between Ypsilanti and Saline.
• Serves job centers, residential areas, health services and commercial facilities
• Public transit options are lacking [1]
• The Washtenaw County Community Impact Team (CIT) asked the IOE student team to establish new bus transportation solutions through TheRide (AAATA) to address the availability of public transit along US-12.
• The project was conducted in collaboration with the Urban Planning and Public Health teams to collectively consider the economic, social and environmental factors affecting Washtenaw County.
Data Collection● Key stakeholder interview
• Generated criteria to be used with the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP)
● Literature Search• Researched effects of housing
demographics and employment along US-12• Explored previous corridor improvement
strategies similar to US-12• Obtained operational cost for bus servicesData Analysis
• Cost-benefit analysis of proposed bus routes• AHP weighting of four criteria, each with sub-
criteria, used to determine best alternatives [2]
