Kanchipuram, is one of the most sacred cities in India and is widely known for its temples that ranges back to the medieval ages. It is one from the cities in India that has attracted thousands of visitors, especially Hindu pilgrims and tourists, throughout the year. Situated in the north­east coast of Tamil Nadu; adjoining to the Bay of Bengal, the city is one of the most active city in the state. The economy of the city largely derives Kanchipuram tourism and silk saari production (which actually involves almost 5000 families living in the city).

The city is best place to buy souvenir, one of which include the world famous Kanchipuram Silk Sarees. Being the traditional centre of silk weaving industry, the sarees produced in the city are the unmatched in the whole world. The sarees are made up of twisted yarn ­ wrapped and wafted twice. It is advised to do your shopping in the streets of Sangusapet, because the shop here, charge comparatively less for the sarees.  

Being one of the prime cities in the state, the city is well­connected to the neighbouring cities and states.  This, as a result makes reaching the city easy an easy task. The city is about 72 km from Chennai. The Chennai International Airport is the nearest airport to the city. Besides that the city can also be reached by the road and rail routes. The city has its own station. Many of the travellers who have been to the city advise to take a road trip to the city, it is the most fun medium to reach the city. The Tamil Nadu State Transport Coorporation provides daily bus services to and from Chennai, Bangalore, Vellore, Turipathi, and other nearby locations. 

Kanchipuram is the perfect mixture of various religions, traditions, and creeds. The majorly practiced religions in the city include: Hundism, Buddhism, and Jainism. The city houses multiple ancient temples of each religion, which are also the prime places to visit in Kanchipuram. Besides the temple, other attraction of the city includes – Vedanthangal Bird Sanctuary, Dutch Fort, Kanchi Kudhil, and Madhurapuri Ashram.
