Meeting St. Teresa in 2A
Most teachers look forward to new school supplies at the begin-ning of the year, but getting a whole new classroom is quite a gift! After a great deal of time and talent was spent on the construc-tion of the new KC, our pastor, Fr. Jarrod, came to bless the new space for some of our littlest Vikings. Sr. Mary Guadalupe and her kindergar-teners now have a beautiful room in which to grow and learn. Many thanks to all who assisted in the completion of this work– what a great example of Stewardship in action!
Pep Assembly– 9/23!
The Viking Cheerleaders will be hosting our first pep assembly of
the year. The Olympic-themed event will take place on Friday,
September 23rd at 2:40p.m.! Stu-dents will be allowed to support team USA and add patriotic flair to their spirit wear. This includes
hats, and red, white, and blue accessories. Students can also
don sportswear, including appropriate jerseys and sweat-
bands. Although there will be no lighting of the torch, we are sure
that the assembly will set the school on fire with
Viking spirit! If your child is participating in Fall sports, please remind them to wear their Sports
Spirit Shirt for the day!
KC Classroom Blessing
The second graders were invited by the SFA Legion of Mary members to help cele-brate the birthday of our Blessed Mother on September 9. The students walked into Stewardship Hall to find brightly colored tablecloths, which held a rosary made by Legion of Mary member, Phyllis Bluml, for each student. Fr. Josh was also in attendance and began the party with a prayer and then blessed the rosaries for the children. The adults and students all prayed the ro-sary. What’s a party without cake and ice cream? So of course we en-
joyed cupcakes and ice cream afterwards, provided by the Legion of Mary members. This event is a wonderful tradition we hope will continue for years to come.

The week before St. Teresa of Calcut-ta was Canonized, the second grad-
ers were very involved in learning about who she was, but more im-portantly, what her central message was, is, and always will be…treating everyone how you want to be treated. In second grade, one of our goals is to be able to recite the Greatest Commandment. Reciting the Greatest Commandment is one thing, but to be able to connect that with a hero such as St. Mother Teresa lends a much deeper understanding. Through-out the week, we learned many things about this great saint! We watched a short clip about her and learned how she reminded herself to use the short little message- “you-did-it-to-me”, to always be thinking about how Jesus wants us to treat others. We read a short script of her life in Calcutta, completed a timeline of her life, and on Friday, we had an early celebra-tion for her Canonization by having cupcakes! Studying Saint Teresa al-lowed the second graders to understand a real-life hero, Stewardship, and gave them a deeper understanding of the Greatest Commandment.

The 7th and 8th grade celebrated Mary’s birthday on Thursday, Sep-
tember 8th with food, singing “Happy Birthday”, and creating a collage to honor the canonization of Mother Teresa. Students looked up quotes from Mother Teresa that encouraged them to grow in their faith. Lauren Giroux and Claire Light volunteered to use their talents to draw a big picture of St. Mother Teresa. It was a great opportunity to unite two great events that can motivate us to accept where God has placed us and to do great acts of love in little ways.
“It was really cool to get to do my favor-ite hobby (painting) for a class project at school.”-Lauren Giroux
“It was interesting to see everyone’s fa-vorite quotes and research all of Mother Teresa’s quotes. Also, it was awesome to celebrate Mary’s birthday in such a mod-ern way and apply our faith life in a more personal way.” –Erin Walden and Khloe Schuckman
