• Not residing within the Northern Division of General Practice area or rural areas
• Vietnam veteran
• Chronic condition
• Alcohol Usage Disorders Identification Test (A.U.D.I.T.) Score of 8 or above

• Cognitive impairment or physical or psychiatric distress which would prohibit informed consent or inability to cooperate with the clinical and research process

• Randomised clinical trial
• 140 - 160 participants required
• Repeated outcome measures, ie at:– baseline– 3, 6, and 9 – 18 months
