WHY SFU AND PITT? Im targeting these two universities for a
number of reasons. Each university has an admirable reputation.
Pittsburgh and Saint Francis offer my probable career choice, civil
engineering, and consist of excellent engineering programs. SFU is
really close to home and Pitt is somewhat close. Both colleges have
beautiful campuses and well- known athletic programs.

FRANCIS SAT/ACT Tests Take honors and advanced placement courses in
high school. Partake in College in High School classes. GPA and
overall class rank NOTE: Two items that arent required by either
SFU or Pitt, but are highly recommended, are a personal essay and
several letters of recommendation. These two items are pivotal for
ANY college acceptance program.
Slide 9
HOW CAN I PREPARE FOR COLLEGE? Im going to focus on math and
English so I can be ready for SFUs and Pitts engineering programs.
I will sharpen my work ethic and social communication skills as
these two attributes apply to my career and campus life. I can
practice this at my job. Although it will be agonizingly
challenging to compete with my wickedly intelligent peers, I will
work hard to boost my class rank and GPA. I plan on interviewing
graduates and/or current students attending these universities and
hear their opinions about campus.
Slide 10
AND NOW FOR MY CAREER SUMMARY: CIVIL ENGINEERING
Slide 11
INTRODUCTION Civil engineering is a broad field that
encompasses a number of branches, such as transportation,
environmental, and structural engineering. Civil engineers are
responsible for maintaining, designing, and analyzing various
infrastructures, such as buildings and roads, predominantly. As our
current infrastructure is wearing, the need for civil engineers is
increasing. This profession is growing rapidly so Im optimistic
about the employment options. Today, the works of civil engineers
are prominent where ever you look.
Slide 12
GENERAL INFORMATION Responsibilities include analyzing the
factors of a project and questioning its applications. The national
average pay in 2012 is $82,214. A Bachelors degree is required, but
possessing a Masters or Ph.D. improves advancement. An attention to
English and high-level math classes is essential. A certification
is required to work, but only after four years of previous
experience under a certified engineer and passing an licensing
exam. Be sociable and able to communicate well with other
engineers, officials, etc.
