Obituaries The death occurred of William G. Hillier, 75, on Jan. 16, 2009 at South Haven, Huntsville Hospital. Loving partner of Beverley Carnell. Survived by his children Bill (Karen) of Sprucedale, Bonnie Belder (Eddie) of Georgetown, Susan Thomas (John) of Brampton, Daryll (JoAnne) of Georgetown, Russ (Sandy) of Mobile, Alabama, and Mike of Georgetown, stepdaughters Alison Billard (Rob) of Hay River, NWT, Patty Costello (Kevin) of Burlington, and Jenny Gerrity (Jason) of Burlington. Also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, brothers Jack (Claire) of Guelph, Ross of Airdree, Alberta and Bob (Gracia) of Georgetown. Service to be arranged at a later date. Funeral arrangements with Mitchell Funeral Home in Huntsville. Mr. Hillier was cremated. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation or Pet Trust Fund, Guelph University, would be appreciated by the family. Barry Gilbert Payne, age 69, son of the late Silas and Ethel Payne of Huntsville, died at Salmon Arm, B.C. on Dec. 30, 2008. Barry was diagnosed with lung cancer in May of 2008. He wanted to remind his friends that he used cigarettes most of his life and as a bar manager inhaled second-hand smoke daily for 30 years. It’s not worth it. Barry and his wife Margaret (Peg) were married 20 years. Peg continues to reside in Salmon Arm, B.C. but will be moving soon to the Vancouver area where her children reside. A service for the interment of Barry’s ashes will be held at All Saints’ Cemetery in April, 2009 on a date to be announced. Gino Pasquale Alberti passed away suddenly on Nov. 28, 2008 at his home in Sanfield. He was in his 68th year. He will be sadly missed by wife JoAnne, and sons Steven and wife Karen and Terry and wife Ann-Marie. Also missing him are his grandchildren Robert, Timothy, Matthew and Christine, and many relatives and friends. The highest form of worship is the worship of unrelenting service, that was Gino. On Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009 at Huntsville District Memorial Hospital with Joan and Janet at her side, Sena Snowden passed away after a brief, incapacitating illness. Sena was predeceased by her husband Cecil Snowden, her parents Tom and Ethel Potter, her sister Vera Kathleen Gray, her brother-in-law Harvey Gray and her beloved nephew, Terry Gray. She is survived by her sister Joan (John Pestka), her niece Janet Gray and great-niece Kelly Gray-Levitt (Jordan), great-nephews Tom Gray (Mary), Chris Gray and great-great-nieces and nephews Paige and Zachary Levitt and McKenzie and Amy Gray. A private memorial service for family and friends has been held. Interment will take place at a later date at Hutcheson Memorial Cemetery. If desired, memorial donations to the Huntsville Hospital Foundation would be appreciated. The death occurred of Lorna Ellen Kerr (nee McMahon) on Jan. 8, 2009 in Dorset, Ontario. She was 59 years old. The deceased was born in New Westminster, B.C. on Jan. 23, 1949, the daughter of Alan and Ann McMahon. She married Edward J. (Ted) Kerr on Aug. 28, 1971 in New Westminster. Her husband resides in Dorset. Lorna will be sadly missed by her children, Jennifer, Philip and Anthony of Dorset and Christopher of Barrie, ON. Dear sister of Alana McMahon/ Boyle and Nancy McMahon of New Westminster, B.C., Bruce McMahon of Merrit, B.C. and Don McMahon of Gold Bridge, B.C. Pearl was a homemaker and a member of the Dorset Lions. A funeral service was held at Mitchell Funeral Home, conducted by Reverend George Robertson. Cremation followed. Born 1945 in New York City. Died Jan. 24, 2009 While studying and then working at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy on a Fulbright Scholarship from Syracuse University, Susan met and married Pier Paolo Alberghini. They moved to New York City in 1970 and then to Toronto in 1974. Susan’s uncommon appreciation of art and music led her to open a consult- ing practice in arts administration that she ran suc- cessfully for many years. She was the co-founder of the Huntsville Festival of the Arts. For the last several years Susan has been the executive director of the Guild of Canadian Film Composers. Susan was a long-time protégé of Dr. Kenneth G. Mills and at the time of her death was the president of the Ken- neth G. Mills Foundation. She leaves behind her husband of 40 years, Pier Paolo and her stepsis- ter and her husband, Jane and Ronnie Stern. Susan will be sadly missed by her many friends and associates, and her extended family in Italy. Please send donations to the Kenneth G. Mills Foundation, in lieu of flowers. Irene Anna Griffin passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009 at 88 years of age. Wife of the late Alvin. Dear mother of Morley and wife Hazel of Niagara Falls, Sheridan and wife Elizabeth of Dorset and Bonnie of St. Catharines. Loving grandmother of Scott, Jeffrey, Mark, Billy-Jo and Shane and eight great-grandchildren. Survived by her brother Morden McEachern of Huntsville, sisters Jean Misener of Calgary and Joan Flood of Iroquois Falls. The family received friends at the Hulse and English Funeral Home and Chapel on Friday, Jan. 23. Funeral service was held in the chapel on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009. Interment will take place at Paint Lake Pioneer Cemetery, Dorset, Ontario in the spring. The death occurred of William George Sluman, 73, on Dec. 25, 2008 at Huntsville District Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his wife, three children and their spouses. Mr. Sluman was born on Feb. 9, 1935, the son of William and Dorothy Sluman. He was married for 50 years to Sally Anne Jenson, whom he married at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Huntsville on Nov. 29, 1958. He is survived by his children John (Barb Kendrick) Sluman, Alcona; Lee (Mike) Fraser, Dwight; Tim (Marie Groomes) Sluman, Huntsville. Also survived by 10 grandchildren: Billy, Brady, Jamie, Linda, Shawn, Adrienne, Justin, Christopher, Molly-Anne and Griffin, and four sisters, Marnie Brethour, Isabel Coulter, Marion Jensen and Pat Mattice. Mr. Sluman retired on July 1, 1990 from Ontario Hydro, where he was employed as an area line supervisor, Muskoka area. He was a volunteer firefighter and cancer driver, and was inducted into the Huntsville Sports Hall of Fame in 2002. Funeral service was conducted by Tom Brown. Interment at Stewart Memorial Cemetery. His grandchildren were pallbearers. The death occurred of Clayton John McConnell, 67, on Jan. 16, 2009 in Huntsville, Ontario. The deceased was born in Herman, Ontario on Feb. 9, 1941, the son of Richard Edward McConnell and Laura Edna Trevail. He married Barbara on June 21, 1975 in Picton, Ontario. His wife resides in Huntsville. Mr. McConnell is survived by his children, John, Paul and Beverley, Gloria and Phil, Clayton and Allana. Grandfather of Jessica, Michael, Hunter, Majenta, Hailey, Calab, Blake, Landen and Jordyn. Great-grandfather of Isaiah. Twin brother of Claude, Clarence, Richard, Vicey and Irene. Predeceased by brothers Gordon and Morris. Mr. McConnell enjoyed fishing, playing guitar and banjo, mechanical work and welding. He was loved dearly and will be missed by all who knew him. Funeral service was held at Billingsley Funeral Home, conducted by Reverend Blake Walker. Interment at Hutcheson Memorial Cemetery. The death occurred of William G. Hillier, 75, on Jan. 16, 2009 at South Haven, Huntsville Hospital.

The deceased was born in New Westminster, B.C. on Jan. 23, 1949, the daughter of Alan and Ann McMahon.

She married Edward J. (Ted) Kerr on Aug. 28, 1971 in New Westminster. Her husband resides in Dorset.

Lorna will be sadly missed by her children, Jennifer, Philip and Anthony

of Dorset and Christopher of Barrie, ON.
