THE FREDO INFORMER Learning for the future Great north road Term 4 week 9 4 th December 2016 Frederickton nsw 2440 Website: www.frederick-p.schools.nsw.edu.au At Frederickton Public School our vision is: to equip students to be lifelong reflective learners, enabling them to be responsible and respectful global citizens with adaptive and creative skills ready to face the challenges of a diverse and rapidly changing world. Fredo Idol This year Fredo Idol will be held on the 13th December commencing at 11:45am in the hall. Children are requested to bring a Gold Coin for entry, with the proceeds going to the SRC. We are looking for all types of talent for this years performance: singers, dancers, magicians, poets, performers, acrobats and musicians are welcomed. Students are encouraged to practice their acts at home. The hall will be available some lunch times for additional practices at school. Registrations for participants will take place tomorrow at lunch time and all performers are requested to pay a 20c entry fee. Parents are also warmly welcomed to attend. Beststart Interviews for 2017 Kindergarten children and their parents Our Beststart Interviews are conducted this year for the Kindergarten students who will begin school next year. The interview is in 2 parts. One part is when our new kindergarten students participate in some activities with our current kindergarten teachers. This provides valuable information about your child so that we can personalise their learning ready for the beginning of the year. The other part is a parent interview with either myself or Ms Ransom. The discussion that ensues from this interview also provides us with great information that assists us to ensure a great working relationship into the future. These interviews are scheduled for Friday 9th December and Monday and Tuesday of next week. School Reports We anticipate that the school reports will be ready to be sent home at the beginning of next week. These will be sent home with students. Presentation Day Assembly Our special Presentation Day Assembly will be held on Monday of next week at 9:30 am. Family and friends are invited to attend this final assembly. PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE This morning we had a visit from Councillor Dean Saul, a representative from local council, Ryan from the Cascades Environmental Education Centre, and a representative from the Water Authority to present the students of our school a certificate for our participation in the Waterwise Program earlier this year. Congratulations to our students for their strong participation in this program. This certificate is framed and is proudly on display in our front office. Our swim school last week went very well however we are noticing students are getting very tired! We even had a little person fall asleep during recess! Please ensure your child has a good night’s rest each night so that they have the stamina to reach the end of this week. Scheduled Industrial Action on Thursday 8 th December The NSW Teachers Federation has announced it will hold a stop work meeting of school teachers and non-school based Teaching Service (OCAA) members on Thursday 8 December 2016. The purpose of the stop work meeting is for Federation member’s to debate and vote on the proposed Crown Employees (Teachers in Schools and Related Employees) Salaries and Conditions Award 2016. I believe that this Industrial Action will be completed by 9:15 am, however teachers will need to travel back to school from the meeting venues. I anticipate that this Industrial Action will have little to no impact on our school’s usual operation, therefore students should arrive at school at their usual time. Year 6 Farewell We are all looking forward to attending the Year 6 Farewell on Wednesday evening. We are very proud of the achievements of our current Year 6 students. We would like to remind parents that you may invite significant family members and friends to attend the formal ceremony which takes place at 7:45pm. Just a reminder that Year 6 students and parents are asked to be at the Kempsey High School hall – Sea Street – at 6.00pm for a 6.30pm sit down. There will be a canteen opened on the night selling cold soft drinks.

Sharks of the deep Sharks striking their prey like electric eels snapping. Sharks cruising like big ferries dropping the passengers off. People can't see or hear the sharks coming until they are close. Sharks are silent and deadly. Sharks teeth are very sharp like a porcupine's quills. They have fins just like an aeroplane's wings. Sharks can't fly, so flying fish can get away. They are creatures of the deep. They are like spies, but underwater spies. Sharks are predators. They are deadly. Sharks strike when people aren't looking. Sharks are mysterious like mysterious crocodiles in the salty water. Sharks teeth are shiny like silver metal. Sharks are tough like snapping turtles snapping at their prey. Sharks have big parties when their parents aren't looking. Sharks hide from their prey so they can jump out and strike. Sharks sway through the ocean like big whale sharks lurking behind big chunks of coral. Sharks stay awake looking for prey in the dark, murky blue sea. by Kirsten Morn

3/4R News Well done to the pupils who completed and returned homework. Please encourage your child to read during the remainder of the term and during the holidays. Thank you to those families that have sent in the $3 for the Christmas craft and cooking. We begin our craft and cooking activities this week. It is not too late to send in the money. POEMS FROM 3/4R

We are still drafting poems and hope you have enjoyed reading them.

SHARKS

Sharks teeth are sharp as a chef cutting and chopping bones. Sharks swaying through slimy seaweed like an eel zapping. Sharks looking for prey like crocodiles hunting zebras. Sharks googly eyes staring at its prey like a big fat frog looking for flies. Sharks have so many teeth like an alligator chomping. Sharks are the scariest thing in the ocean like zapping electric eels. Sharks are grey like wrinkly, tough elephant skin.

Fiona Saul

BRAVE SHARKS

Sharks have sharp teeth like a chef chopping up meat. Sharks swaying like a tree in the wind. Sharks are slimy as a slip and slide. Sharks are spooky like watching a spooky movie on Halloween night. Sharks jaws crunching like a tiger eating bones. Sharks are so long, as long as a stretched limousine.

News From Kindergarten & Year 1 Kinder and Year 1 have been having a great time attending the Gladstone pool each day and are learning lots! Friday is our last swimming day and we will be having a chip picnic at the Gladstone Park. All students will need to bring $2 for this and ensure they have a water bottle. We were very excited about the Waterwise and Council visit and we all received a brand new drink bottle to take home. There is no further homework for Kinder and Year 1 however pouches with homereaders will continue this week. Next week they will be collected by teachers ready for 2017. It is a good idea to keep a spare plastic bag in your child's school bag as they will begin to bring home their belongings from the classroom. Mrs Henderson and Miss Oram will be involved with Best Start interviews on Friday (Week 9), Monday & Tuesday (Week 10).
