Greetings to you all in the Lord Jesus!

A repeated cycle of special days and periods, do much good. It helps us focus on

important matters and build relationships. It works like guideposts to point out the

right paths so that we may not get lost. One very vital function of particular days is

that it helps people celebrate life, not once but repeatedly.

When Esther was like 3 or 4 years old, Christmas brought so much joy and

happiness to her. She was so fascinated by the beautiful decorations around the

house and the town. On Christmas morning, she was showered with many presents.

Becky thinks I spoiled her and I admit it, I did. After the Christmas season, I would

say to Esther that she has to wait one whole year for another Christmas. She would simply sigh and say, “How

could I?”

Sometimes, unkind life situations take away joy of living and we need a built-in cycle to recover our lost

elation. Knowing this, God made very strict rules for Israelites to keep certain days, seasons, years during Old

Testament times. Weekly and yearly cycles of celebrating special days were directly related to how wonderfully

God intervened in their lives. At the same time, God wanted the people to remain in Jehovah faith by keeping

the memorable days. Moreover, all the celebrations were foreshadows of the coming Messiah.

As exactly as foretold by countless prophecies, Jesus the Messiah came and fulfilled the work of salvation.

Jesus became the Passover lamb and offered himself as the sacrifice for the forgiveness of our sins, and once

and for all, on the day of Passover. This is why the Jewish season of Passover and Christian Passion Week fall

in the identical time frame.

Lent is a season for us to refocus on who we are and who Christ Jesus is. It is a time of spiritual reflection of

where we are and where God is leading us. But most importantly, this season reminds us of a wonderful life that

God has given us through his Son Jesus. Therefore, let us celebrate this yearly season of Lent by personal

prayer and meditation, by attending Bible studies and worship. Lenten Bible study for Jolly Mixers will be “24

Hours that Changed the World,” by Rev. Adam Hamilton. The study will guide you through the last 24 hours of

Jesus’ life and help to strengthen you faith.

In addition to the Bible study, I would like to encourage you to participate in various small group activities at

our church to develop fellowship and deepen your faith. Class meetings were one of John Wesley’s greatest

contributions to spiritual revival. They were very intimate gathering units of about a dozen Methodists to check

on each other and build up each other’s faith. Even today growing churches have adapted the same kinds of

class meetings. I believe that energized small fellowships will strengthen our whole church family.

Thank you very much for your outpouring support for Sandalwood Fire victims in Calimesa. Our church has

raised close to $8,000 for the victims. We are looking into how the funds could be used to help the victims,

especially homeless children and families in the Yucaipa Unified School District.

Leaders and volunteers of Family Promise have been working very diligently to serve homeless families and

now are about to launch its feeding program through March. Our church will provide a dining facility and host

dinners. If anyone of you is interested in volunteering, please speak to Dale, Johanne, and Debbie. Our church is

scheduled to serve dinner on Wednesday, March 4, 6:00 PM.

God is good all the time. So let’s celebrate together.

Phillips

Buttercups and Daffodils Floyd Crosby

When we were skinny, wispy lads And overalls were all we had We looked out upon the prairie hills And marveled at the buttercups and daffodils. We had an old iron pot to boil our clothes And strong lye soap to twitch the nose. They gave us castor oil instead of pills And we made a path thru buttercups And daffodils. Our old barn was home to the cows And some squealin’ pigs and grumpy sows, They seemed to get their full… Among the buttercups and daffodils. We had a lot of fun in the summer sun With giant stilts and rubber guns, And when the sun had set and all was still… Little boys dreamed of buttercups and daffodils. And we chopped weeds and watched corn grow With many another seeded row, And we grew tall and sought new thrills That led away from buttercups and daffodils.

Giving Extra… Would you like to give an extra amount to the

church? Pat Shores is giving a little extra in

honor of her siblings.

This would help the church financially.

The barn is gone and the old house too… No squealin’ pigs or cows to moo, But I remember now and I always will… Sweet buttercups and daffodils.
