Frank Brennan hails from the North West of England and is a graduate of the University of
Wales. He was an actor and writer in a theatre group for schools and has taught English and

THE FRUITCAKE SPECIAL
(he story is aout a young lady% )nna% who works as a chemist in )mos $osmeticsfactory in New *ersey. "he tries different concoctions to create the est perfume. +ne day% sheaccidentally discovers a perfume that can charm men and make them fall in love with her. ,n
addition to using -the usual mi# of flowers and things% she decides to throw in a piece offruitcake into the mi#ture. (he mi#ture produces a perfume which smells pleasant. )nna das alittle of the perfume on the ack of her hands and keeps the rest in her handag. "he does notthink too much of it as she knows that she has to make perfumes in a proper way. However% shelater discovers /r. )mos% her oss% is suddenly attracted to her. He even invites her for dinnerand she accepts it.
(hat night% she uses her usual perfume called Intrigue for her dinner date. /r. )mosehaves strangely when he comes to pick her up at her home. ,nstead of the friendly and flirtytone in the office% he seems uninterested. He tries to end the dinner 0uickly and tells her that itis a reward for her hard work at the factory. )nna is pu''led at the change in his reaction. "he
thinks it has something to do with the perfume she is wearing. "he e#cuses herself to go to therestroom and applies a generous da of the new perfume she has concocted. (he perfume hasthe same effects on a waiter% who also declares his love for her. Upon returning to her tale% shediscovers /r. )mos is once again esotted y her. )nna realises now that the perfume isresponsile for his strange ehaviour. When she returns to the tale% she finds /r. )mos with"aina% a eautiful and young model. )ll of a sudden% /r. )mos declares his love for )nna andthe waiter too starts singing to her. "oon% a fight starts etween "aina% /r. )mos% the waiter."everal waiters try to calm things down. )nna decides to leave the restaurant immediately andreturns home.
(he ne#t day% she takes leave and investigates the fruitcake. Her conversation with )unt
/imi reveals that )unt /imi actually uys the fruitcake from a strange old lady who uses asecret ingredient. Unfortunately% it is impossile to find the old woman as she has passed awayrecently. (wo days later% )nna returns to work. "he meets "aina with /r. )mos in his office and"aina insults her. ,n anger% )nna splashes the perfume on "aina. "he then resigns from thecompany and finds a new &o in the factory that produces Intrigue. "ometime later% )rmstrong%the pi''a oy who now owns the company% confesses his love for )nna.

Setting Amos Cosmetic factory in New Jersey, USA
)nna works as a chemist designing new perfumes here. When she makes a new perfume with
a little piece of fruitcake as part of the ingredients% she attracts her rich and handsome oss%
David )mos% who has little regard for ordinary people.

1ives with her mother who is worried she is still single.
French restaurant
,t is an e#pensive place for food and drinks. David )mos rought her here for their dinner date.
Both David and the waiter try to win )nna2s love and fight over her.
