The Fulbright Program

The Fulbright Program is the United States Government’s most prestigious grant program. The U.S. Congress created the Fulbright Program in 1946, immediately after World War II, to foster mutual understanding among nations through educational and cultural exchanges. Senator J. William Fulbright, sponsor of the legislation, saw this legislation as a step toward building an alternative to armed conflict. The Fulbright Program enables U.S. students, scholars and artists to benefit from unique resources in every corner of the world and allows students, faculty members, teachers, artists and professionals from all over the world to study in the U.S.A. The Fulbright Program provides individuals with the chance to gain international competence in an increasingly interdependent world.

You can visit https://eca.state.gov/fulbright to get more information on the Fulbright Program and the 160 Fulbright Commissions worldwide.

The Turkish Fulbright Commission

https://fulbright.org.tr/

The Turkish Fulbright Commission - the Commission for Educational Exchange between the United States and Turkey - was established by a binational agreement signed between Turkey and the United States in 1949. The Commission started its activities in accordance with Law No. 5596 enacted by the Turkish Parliament on March 13, 1950.

The Commission supports Turkish and American graduate students, faculty members, teachers, artists and professionals through grants which include travel and living expenses. It also offers educational advising for Turkish students wishing to study in the U.S.A. Our Commission was founded to develop mutual understanding between the Turkish and American people through educational and cultural exchange. The members of the Commission Board are assigned by the Turkish and American governments and they represent both countries.

Since the foundation of our Commission in 1949, funding has been provided by the governments of both Turkey and the United States, supporting around 6,500 Turkish and American scholars. Our head office is in Ankara and there is a branch office in Istanbul.

The Legum Magister or LL.M. degree

LL.M. (Master of Laws) is an internationally recognized postgraduate law degree awarded to those already holding a professional law degree, and who have completed advanced education and research in a particular area of law. Lawyers may choose to pursue LLM programs to gain expertise in a specific sector, for career advancement, and to build a professional network. An LL.M. is usually obtained by completing a one-year full-time program. Many law firms prefer candidates with an LL.M. degree because it indicates that a lawyer has acquired advanced, specialized legal training, and is qualified to work in a multinational legal environment.
