Dear <<Title Last>>,
I know you will be pleased with the enclosed 2014 calendar. We had it made expressly for patriotic Americans like you who share our commitment to our veterans, our communities and our country.
Because you care so much, I have enclosed this very special calendar filled with beautiful landscapes from across our great nation. It truly captures America the Beautiful. Every time you see it, I hope you are reminded of the freedoms we enjoy thanks to the bravery of America’s veterans. I am sending you this gift as a special thank you for helping our veterans through your continued generous support — the same generosity I must now appeal to for a much-needed donation.
Please remember that it is through the support of our loyal friends — friends like you — that we are able to provide services to our veterans...scholarships to the children of our fallen heroes...comfort to our wounded troops. As a non-profit organization, we rely heavily on dedicated individuals and patriotic Americans to help assure that our efforts continue.
Naturally, any amount will be appreciated. However, the more you can give, the more we can further our efforts to insure that no veteran or their family is left behind.
Whatever you decide, please accept the enclosed gift with our sincere thanks. For it is only through your good-hearted dontaiton that we are able to extend our reach to all veterans and their families.
Thank you in advance for your support.
Sincerely,
William A. Pease National Development Director The American Legion
P.S. For us, receiving your donation promptly is almost as critical as how much you send. Our need is great! So please send your gift today.

• The American Legion provides troop support through various programs nationwide and believes there is no separating the warrior from the war. Those who put their lives on the line in defense of their country - and their fellow citizens - deserve America’s total support.
• “Heroes to Hometowns” is a transition program for severely injured service members returning home from OEF/OIF.
“Heroes to Hometowns” establishes a support network and coordinates resources for those service members.
• More than 600 disability claims appeals per month are processed by The American Legion for veterans trying to get their VA medical benefits.
• The American Legion helps families of deployed troops through its Family Support Network and Operation Military Family Outreach.
• The Legion sponsors dozens of veterans hiring fairs each year, and our employment experts also provide tips to writing resumes, networking and making a strong impression in the interview process.
• Operation Comfort Warriors is a program dedicated to meeting the needs of wounded, injured or ill military personnel by providing them with comfort items not usually supplied by the government. OCW ensures that patients at U.S. military hospitals and warrior transition units are given items like sweat suits, DVDs, puzzles, electronic devices, books, calling cards and more. OCW also provides larger items such as ping pong tables, entertainment centers, computers, kayaks and other recreational goods for use by wounded warriors in common areas.
• Those who come home physically or mentally changed by war need a grateful nation to step up and support them. The American Legion does that.
• One of the primary missions of The American Legion is to make sure that our veterans and their families receive the support and recognition they deserve.
What The American Legion does: America the BeautifulO beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!America! America!
God shed his grace on thee,And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!
O beautiful for pilgrim feetWhose stern impassioned stressA thoroughfare of freedom beat
Across the wilderness!America! America!
God mend thine every flaw,Confirm thy soul in self-control,
Thy liberty in law!
O beautiful for heroes provedIn liberating strife.
Who more than self their country loved,And mercy more than life!
America! America!May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness,And every gain divine!
O beautiful for patriot dreamThat sees beyond the yearsThine alabaster cities gleamUndimmed by human tears!
America! America!God shed his grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhoodFrom sea to shining sea!
