Once again, the program of the Instute during 2013 has been a remarkably full and diverse one. We began the year with an exhibit and a conference on the theme of “Chesterton & Freedom” in New York and the seventh-annual Saints & Sleuths programme. During the spring, we first traveled to Bogota, Colombia at the invitaon of Universidad de La Sabana to speak on the theme of “One Hundred years of Orthodoxy.” From there we travelled to Chile for our annual conferences—this year on the theme of “Chesterton as Journalist.” In late May, we hosted Fr. Ian Ker at Seton Hall University for the lecture on “Chesterton and Humour;” and in early June, we travelled to Italy for conferences in Rimini and Rome on the themes of “Manalive” and “Chesterton and the Family.” During the month of August, we were co-sponsors of the Chesterton Exhibit at the 2013 Rimini Meeng—the biggest cultural fesval in Europe—and we also collaborated in the stage producon of “Manalive.” It was a wonderful and most rewarding experience since we were able to invite thou- sands of people to meet Chesterton and to get to know him and his work beer. The Fall was an equally busy me. In September, Dale Ahlquist was our guest at a New York conference on the sub- ject of “Chesterton at the Daily News” at the American Bible Society. In October, we co-sponsored a symposium on “Newman and Chesterton” in Paris; and in November, I travelled to Salem, Oregon, to speak on the subject of “The Everlasng Chesterton.” May I make a direct appeal for your financial support for this on-going work? Though we receive occasional grants for specific projects, our yearly budget sll requires the help provided each year by readers of The Chester- ton Review. This newsletter brings you a brief report about the work of the Chesterton Institute during 2013, and an overview of the continuation of our work, upcoming programs and projects which are reality with the support of Seton Hall University and our supporters as we prepare for the celebration of the fortieth anniversary of the Institute and our journal.

Once again, the program of the Institute during 2013 has been a remarkably full and diverse one. We began the year with an exhibit and a conference on the theme of “Chesterton & Freedom” in New York and the seventh-annual Saints & Sleuths programme. During the spring, we first traveled to Bogota, Colombia at the invitation of Universidad de La Sabana to speak on the theme of “One Hundred years of Orthodoxy.” From there we travelled to Chile for our annual conferences—this year on the theme of “Chesterton as Journalist.” In late May, we hosted Fr. Ian Ker at Seton Hall University for the lecture on “Chesterton and Humour;” and in early June, we travelled to Italy for conferences in Rimini and Rome on the themes of “Manalive” and “Chesterton and the Family.” During the month of August, we were co-sponsors of the Chesterton Exhibit at the 2013 Rimini Meeting—the biggest cultural festival in Europe—and we also collaborated in the stage production of “Manalive.” It was a wonderful and most rewarding experience since we were able to invite thou-sands of people to meet Chesterton and to get to know him and his work better. The Fall was an equally busy time. In September, Dale Ahlquist was our guest at a New York conference on the sub-ject of “Chesterton at the Daily News” at the American Bible Society. In October, we co-sponsored a symposium on “Newman and Chesterton” in Paris; and in November, I travelled to Salem, Oregon, to speak on the subject of “The Everlasting Chesterton.”

May I make a direct appeal for your financial support for this on-going work? Though we receive occasional grants for specific projects, our yearly budget still requires the help provided each year by readers of The Chester-ton Review. The subscribers of our journal form a fellowship, and for al-most forty years, your donations—large and small—have enabled us to continue our work of bringing Chesterton's wisdom to a world which is more badly in need of it than it has ever been.

Thank you,

A Message from the President: Fr. Ian Boyd, C. S. B.

The Work of the G. K. Chesterton Institute for Faith & Culture

The G. K. Chesterton Institute, a not-for profit educational organization incorporated in the United States, Canada and Great Britain, is located at Seton Hall University, South Orange, N.J. Its purpose is to promote the thought of G. K. Chesterton and his circle and more broadly, to explore the application of Chestertonian ideas in the contemporary world. The Institute’s work consists of conferences, lecture series, research and writing.

The Chesterton Review, founded in 1974, has been widely praised both for its scholarship and for the quality of its writing. Edited by Father Ian Boyd, it includes a wide range of articles not only on Chesterton himself, but on the issues close to his heart in the work of other writers and in the modern world. It has devoted special issues to C. S. Lewis, George Bernanos, Hilaire Belloc, Maurice Baring, Christopher Dawson, Cardinal Manning, the Modernist Crisis, J. R. R. Tolkien, Fantasy Litera-ture, and a Special Polish Issue. As the interest in Chesterton continues to grow around the world, so does our publication which now publishes annual editions in Spanish, Portuguese, French and Italian.
