The WiMAX label was introduced by the WiMAX Forum to promote the 802.16 family of standards

The early iterations of 802.16 focused on line-of-sight (LOS) applications using high frequency bands between 10-66 GHz

OFDMA allows some sub-carriers to be assigned to different users. For example, sub-carriers 1, 3 and 7 can be assigned to user 1 and sub-carriers 2, 5 and 9 to user 2.
