General Etiquette

• Always be polite– Be polite and courteous to

EVERYONE, even if you have a strong dislike for something or someone.

• Do Not Speak Loudly or Curse

– Cursing is a big no-no, it shows that there is limited education, VERY LIMITED, and speaking loudly alerts people of your stress level.

• Respect Your Elders– Elders should earn the same

respect that you would like in return. Young men seem to know it all, but WE DON’T

• Don’t laugh at other’s mistakes

– This can be considered mean, and if things were reversed, you wouldn’t want anyone laughing at your mistakes.

• Remove your hat indoors– This rule has gone out of

style, but it is poor etiquette to leave your hat on inside a building.

• Wait for seating before eating

– This rule is simple, wait until everyone else is seated and ready to eat before eating.

Conversation

• Avoid political and religious discussions.– Those discussions can lead to various

and ugly opinions

• Education is one of the main keys in indulging in good conversation

• Sex, and conversations about one’s personal life is not a great conversation piece.

Here’s a few tips……• When given a dinner

invitation, it is best to respond quickly as possible, whether you decline or accept.

• Speak, first to the hostess, and the host, if there is both. (Hartley 1873)

• Observe your conduct at the table.– Practicing great

behavior at home will result in great behavior elsewhere.

• Avoid making disturbing sounds with food such as soup or chewing sounds at the table.

• Never put more in your mouth that you can swallow, this could result in choking or suffocation.

• Maintain Sobriety– Never drink more than one

kind of alcoholic drink in the public setting.

• Converse in a low tone with your neighbor, LOUDNESS IS NOT NECCESARY! (Hartley 1873)

The Nitty Gritty• A gentleman’s hands and feet are just as important as the female’s

hands and feet.– Pay attention to the socks you wear, nylon or overly warm socks could cause

sweaty feet– Purchase the right tools for taking care of your feet such as clippers, cuticle pusher,

and creams– BUT CREAMS ALONE WILL NOT CUT IT!

• A Gentleman’s face is just as important as the rest of his body, so use moisturizers on the face as much as possible

• In the winter time take shorter showers, but remember to shampoo hair to avoid flakes and use a high quality crème to eliminate dry skin

• Brush teeth, floss, and it maybe even necessary to invest in a teeth whitening system

• Find a quality barber/stylist that is versatile and will be there to accommodate all of your need

• If a gentleman shaves, he needs to find a great after-shave product to use on his skin to avoid irritation.
