IF I WERE A MAGIC PENCIL

Once upon a time in London, there lived a very unique boy named Peter. He was just as tall as a human thumb! Peter worked as a playmate for the king’s daughter. Peter played with a needle which he used as a sword. He and the princess always played together and had a lot of fun.

One day, a dragon entered the kingdom with a magic pencil that fulfilled wishes. The dragon used the magic pencil to catch the princess and eat her. But, Peter climbed the dragon’s body and sliced it’s tongue with his needle. The dragon ran away with the horrible pain and left the magic pencil behind.

The princess took the magic pencil and wished Peter to become tall. All of a sudden, the magic pencil burst into white dust and fell on Peter. Peter became even taller than the princess. Peter and the princess became thick friends, enjoyed and had a lot of fun because of the Magic Pencil.

I dreamt myself as a magic pencil. I was very sad when I was with the dragon but now I am very happy when I am with the princess who involved me to do the useful wishes.

Moral of the story:

Magic is nothing but believing in yourself. If you can do this, you can achieve anything.

A LETTER TO MY FRIEND, SHARING THE COVID AND VIRTUAL CLASS EXPERIENCE.

Dear Gautam,

How are you? Hope you are doing great!

In this mail, I would like to share my experience of ‘COVID-19’ and virtual learning with you. Do you know about corona virus? It is a large family of viruses. Novel corona virus (or) 2019-nCoV is a new strain of corona virus that was detected in Wuhan, China in 2019. The disease caused by Novel corona virus is named as ‘COVID-19’. It creates mild symptoms such as cough, sore throat, runny nose. If it gets worse it leads to pneumonia and sometimes fatal. Since it spreads easily from an infected person to another person through droplets while coughing or sneezing, it creates pandemic situation all over the world. Because of this, the entire world entered into lockdown. Hence, we are unable to go out and I am missing all my friends and you. But still there are some good things happening because of COVID-19. I get lot of time to learn music, play with my family members and try some small experiments. Attending the classes virtually through Google classroom is a different experience. I am learning how to use gadgets and Google classroom because of this virtual learning. It also affects my eyes since I am exposed to the screen for a long time. I wish that this pandemic situation would come to an end soon and we all could meet again and enjoy like before. Take care!

Your’s lovingly,

Aswin R.

MATH

MATHS IN EVERYDAY LIFE

Math is very useful in everyday life. Math can help us do many things that are important in our everyday lives. People use math knowledge when cooking. For example, it is very common to use a half or double of a recipe. In this case, people use proportions and ratios to make correct calculations for each ingredient. If a recipe calls for 2/3 of a cup of flour, the cook has to calculate how much is half or double of 2/3 of a cup. Then the cook has to represent the amount using standard measures used in baking, such as ¼ cup, 1/3 cup, ½ cup or 1 cup. Uses of Maths in Everyday Life *Cooking-

DATA HANDLING

Data Handling is collecting data or facts in order to keep a record. IMPORTANCE OF DATA HANDLING Data Handling is used for organizing the data properly .This includes collecting data, keeping records of data, analysis of data and sharing of data. Data Handling may be as simple as orderly recording on a sheet of paper or the completion of entry forms on a computer screen. In libraries – To keep records of Books. In Schools – To keep records of Marks, attendance, etc.

Division

Division is a method of distributing a group of things into equal parts. It is one of the four basic operations of arithmetic, which gives a fair result of sharing. Division is an operation opposite to that of multiplication. There are various signs which can be used to indicate division such as ÷, /. Dividend ÷ divisor = quotient

15 ÷ 5 = 3

Dividend Divisor Quotient Division is repeated subtraction. This can be explained by the flowchart shown below.

Uses of Division in our daily life: • We use division to divide things equally.

M. S. RAYHAAN

HOW ARE MULTIPLICATION AND DIVISION DIFFERENT? EXPLAIN WITH EXAMPLES

Repeated addition is Multiplication and Repeated Subtraction is called Division. Multiplication and Division are opposite to each other. Multiplication combines equal group into a larger group and Division breaks longer group into equal smaller group.

THE CONCEPT OF MULTIPLICATION

Multiplication is the repeated addition of the same number.

Example: Take 2 table, two groups of two is four

2+2=4 = 2*2=4

Three groups of two is six

2+2+2=6 = 2*3=6

Zero Property:

When you multiply a number by zero the result is always zero.

One property:

When you multiply a number by one the answer will always be the other number.

V. PRENIKA

Where is multiplication used?

1. It can be used in calculating the cost of things we buy. For example: If 3 chocolates each rs.5 the total amount can be calculated using multiplication. 3×5=15 Amount of three chocolates will be Rs.15/-

2. Multiplication is used in division. For Example: If 4 stars is equally divided between 2 girls, then 4 ÷ 2 = 2

In multiplication format we can do like 2 × 2 = 4

WATER AND AIR ARE ESSENTIAL FOR LIFE

AIR

People need to breathe in order to live and so do animals and plants. During respiration, most living things take in oxygen from the air and give out carbon dioxide. On the other hand plants take in carbon dioxide and give out oxygen. This process of respiration gives humans, animals and plants the energy to eat, grow and live life!

WATER

Water is one of the most important substances on earth. All plants and animals must have water to survive. If there were no water, there would be no life on Earth. Apart from drinking it to survive, people have many other uses for water such as cooking, cleaning, washing etc. It is also used in industries for various purposes and mainly to generate electricity.

IMPORTANCE OF WATER

*Water boots energy, water delivers important nutrients to all of our cells, especially muscle cells

*Water hydrates skin

*Water aids in digestion

LANDFORMS

A Landform is a feature on the Earth’s surface. Hills/Mountains, Plains, Plateau, Valley and Dessert are the major types. I prefer to live in Plains.

Plains: Plains are the most thickly populated areas of the world. A Plain is flat, low-lying land surfaces with a very gentle slope.Plains are generally not more than 200m above sea level.

Benefits:

1. Most Plains have fertile soil, hence ideal for agriculture. 2. River Plains have abundant supply of water, which is useful

for human settlements. 3. The flat surface of plains helps in the construction of

transport network, buildings, industries etc...

Difficulties:

1. Temperatures were extreme with freezing cold winters and incredibly hot summers.

2. The dry and unproductive lands making it difficult to grow crops.

3. Lightning flashes could cause the grass to set alight, causing huge grassfires that spread across the plains.

THE SOLAR SYSTEM

Our solar system consists of our star, the Sun, and everything bound to it by gravity — the planets Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune, dwarf planets such as Pluto, moons and many asteroids, comets and meteoroids.

The sun is in the centre of the solar system and because of its gravitational force, all others move in motion

THE IMPORTANCE OF SUN

• The sun radiates light, heat or solar energy which makes it possible to live on Earth

• Sun helps plants to grow – photosynthesis • The heat from sun keeps our body warm • It helps in formation of clouds and rains and wind • Sun helps in fuel formation (petroleum oil and coal) • It is the best source of Vitamin D

Communication in present situation

Communication is the act of sharing information. In other words, talking, writing, listening or reading.

We are living in a world where we can communicate with one another at anytime from anywhere.

With the click of a small button on computer, you can easily get any information according to your needs and choice. We just cannot think of a situation where there is no exchange of ideas and feelings

PLANET EARTH IS THE IDEAL PLANET TO LIVE

Our home planet Earth is a rocky, terrestrial planet.

Earth is special because it is an ocean planet.Water covers 70% of Earth's surface. All living things need water to survive. If there were no water there would be no life on Earth.

It is the right distance from the Sun and is protected from harmful solar radiation by its magnetic field. Its distance from the sun means it’s neither too hot nor too cold for creatures to live on.

Earth’s ‘atmosphere’ is also hugely important for sustaining life. The atmosphere is a huge blanket of gases – mostly oxygen and nitrogen – wrapped around Earth, protecting our planet from the sun’s strong rays. At the same time, the atmosphere helps keep the Earth’s temperature comfortable for living beings – and it protects us from meteors, too. Ozone protects the Earth from harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays from the Sun, without which, life on Earth would be very difficult.

Force of attraction is a force that pulls the body near due to its attraction. The gravitational force on earth draws objects towards itself regardless of its distance.

All the above information justifies that “Earth is the ideal planet to live”.

MIND MAP

THE EARTH PROVIDES US WITH EVERYTHING WE NEED. IT IS IMPORTANT TO TAKE CARE OF OUR EARTH.

Earth gives us the following:

Air: The Earth gives us oxygen through trees for breathing.

Water: It gives us water through Rivers, Lakes, Ponds and Rain.

Food: It provides food for humans and all kinds of animals. Fruits, vegetables, herbs and meat are few examples.

Shelter: It provides us raw materials for building houses like wood from trees, sand etc.

Clothes: We get materials to make clothes from Earth, such as wool from animals, silk from insects and cotton from plants.

SANJIVAN M.

FOOD CHAIN AND ITS EFFECTS We can classify animals into 3 categories according to their food habits. They are: Herbivores, Carnivores and Omnivores. If the herbivores are removed from the food chain, the carnivores will not have enough food since they are dependent on the herbivores for food consumption. Also there will be over growth of plants and forests. If the carnivores are removed from the food chain, there will be over population of herbivorous animals. This will lead to an increasing demand of plants for food consumption. Eventually there will be a deficit in plants and insufficient food for the herbivores. If omnivores are removed from the food chain, there will be an overgrowth of herbivores and carnivores and there will not be a balance in the food chain.
