Beach Barbeque August 8, 2018

Saturday morning didn't look good for the Glen Wild Lake Beach Barbequehosted by our wonderful Entertainment Club; however by mid-day theclouds were gone and the sun was out!

What a great party! The DJ was playing 1980's dance music and reminding uswhat day it was and where we were. He played some awesome tunes like "Iam too sexy for Glen Wild Lake" and "I like Glen Wild Lake and I cannot lie",while the kids danced the night away doing favorite dances like Flossing andOrange Justice on the docks.

We had birthday cake for Mocha's Mom and sang Happy Birthday! Thefamous GWL hospitality iced lemon pound cake was a hit as always, and thevariety of side dishes was terrific.

Another fantastic event by our Entertainment Club!

Thank you for putting on such a great party!

Why was the Glen Wild Laker staring at the orange juice container?

Because it said, "concentrate."

How do you keep a Glen Wild Laker in suspense?

(I'll tell you in next Saturday's Glenwilder.)

Annual Thank You Picnic is September 9 from 1 to 5.

The Thank You picnic is an event held at the clubhouse each

September to show appreciation to all of the people in town,

safe and clean.

All lake residents are invited and encouraged to attend!

Volunteers are needed for set-up, clean-up, grilling, side

dishes, and boat rides.

Please email [email protected] to sign up!

Thank you!

Sailing news & Race Results, Sunday, August 5, 2018

Case of water - got it, Ice- got it, Walkie- talkies for chase boat-got it, Whistles-gotit, Timer for the start-got it what don't we have?

WIND!

Commodore Rippas kindly set a short course for the first race on Sunday: buoys to starboardbuoy 3 and back. The Sunfish course was going to be more challenging: buoys 3,2,4,1 twice and

then down the outlet stream to Lake losco and back. Only kidding, Sunfish also had a shortened

course to make sure we were done before sundown.

Carolyn Bross, the wind whisperer, took off from the start and was well on her way to catching

the three Megabytes.

The Committee boat crew went as far as setting a timer to make sure the sailors made it to thefirst buoy in less than an hour, but the wind picked up and we were able to get in two races foreach class.

Chase boat captain and crew hung out on the newly renovated committee boat because no one

was going anywhere fast.

The committee boat coolers were well stocked after committee boat chairperson did some"shopping" at a Pine Tree Road resident for the beverage of choice.

Glen Wild Lake Sailing news brought to you today by guest writer, Ms. Sunny Windless.

Lyngbya is fibrous mat algae. The Environmental Committee is actively treating it chemically

Aquatic Technologies and will continue to do so, as well as having it manually removed byGlenwild Garden Center.

The removal method of Lyngbya by physically grabbing the algae, twisting it on a rake or byhand to remove as much water as possible and pulling it out of the lake works great.

If you have a place to dry it out, you can put it the leaf bag collection bags.

If you do remove any Lyngbya, please bag it and put in the garbage. Please do not throw it inthe woods or over the dam.

Lyngbya is smelly, may have fish hooks and leeches and is generally totally disgusting.

Every little bit taken out helps. Thank you!

Camp News

As we near the end of another successful summer camp season, I've started to reflect on my own

experiences as a camper here. Perhaps it was fueled by a recent visit of old lake friends that stopped in

for a visit. I met those lake friends nearly 40 years ago, and when we got together, it was as though we'd

seen each other every day. We sat and reminisced about our time here on the lake and our time spent

at the clubhouse.

The campers we have here today will hopefully have those same wonderful experiences. Friendships

formed over a summer and meant to last a lifetime. Memories oftime spent in a place that's been

described as a "little slice of paradise". It really is amazing what the staff here is able to accomplish in

just seven weeks. Please know that we are grateful to the GWL Community for the support you offer to

a program that spans over 80 years oftradition.

I'd like to share with you a compliment that was paid to the staff here by one of our camper families.

The dad said to me that when he is asked why he likes GWL Swim camp so much, he simply replies "it's

like dropping my kids off at a place that's straight out of the 70's". I knew exactly what he meant. A time

when kids could walk to school alone. Curfew was when the street lights came on, and riding your bike

was the main mode of transportation. Sadly, we live in a different time, yet families feel safe sending

their children to GWL. It's a responsibility the staff here takes very seriously and again, we are so

grateful to the residents of Glenwild for your continued support.

Perhaps my reminiscing was appropriate as the theme for week 6 was "Blast from the Past". We

brought back some old games and arts and craft ideas from past. We ended the week with a spin on the

film Freaky Friday and swapped roles with the campers. You can only imagine the fun our campers had

as coaches for the day.

Our swim team finished their final meet on Monday. We swam High Crest Lake and walked away withour 4th win of the season. We finished 4-2 and secured second place in the league. On Thursday we

hosted the Annual Championship meet. At the meet All-Star swimmers are announced. We are thrilled

to say that 15 of our swimmers were selected to All-Stars. We couldn't be prouder of all the swimmers

and the season we had!

We will finish up the summer season with our trip to Dorney Park on Tuesday, our Awards Night on

Thursday and our last day of camp on Friday.

That's camp news. See you all next week,

Coach John
