Hello everyone. It is so nice to see an early spring. I have ridden more this winter than any other winter I can remember. March is already off to a good start. Let’s use March to rest and get housework done be-cause April is filled with riding and events. I am exited about the new ride schedule. I can’t wait to see all the different places our coordinators have planned out for us.

I’m looking forward to our Chapter Yard Sale Fundraiser at Becky Cassitty’s house in Elberfeld, IN. This is always a lot of fun and is so successful in funding our chapter for another year. Please clean out your clos-ets, garages, and sheds and bring those items you want to donate to Becky’s on April 9th. Hopefully the weather will be nice and Elberfeld has a big turnout.

On April 23, Betty and Ed Schreiner will host two seminars at their home at 2539 Knoll Top Ln, Hender-son, KY 42420. The first seminar is Hills and Curves and will start at 9:00 am. Next will be a Road Captain’s Course. This seminar is part classroom and part riding instruction. These seminars will take most of the day to complete, and lunch details will be worked out at the March gathering. Dennis will be our instruc-tor. The skills taught in these classes will help us expect the unexpected and build our confidence in lead-ing group rides. It puts us all on the same page! Thank you Betty, Ed, and Dennis.

District will be hosting a TRC on April 24 in Columbus, IN at 9:00 am. If you need to take this course call Chuck Jacobs, District Educator, to reserve your seat.

On April 30, Charles and Kathy Friedman will lead us on our Annual Blessing of the Bikes. This will be a ride to Illinois where Charles’ brother, Father Dan, will bless our Goldwings for the upcoming ride season. Last year was a great success. I hope you can make this ride. You will not want to miss it! Charles will have all the details at the March gathering.

You can see why I suggest you rest up! April is filled with great events you won’t want to miss. May is going to be great too! Don’t miss the March Gathering on March 13. We will be discussing

all of the upcoming events in more detail. I hope to see you all there!

Ed and Betty Schreiner

Assistant Chapter

Directors Welcome to the " Ides of March " weather. We had a great gathering for February with 42 chapter members & visitors. The Winter Rendezvous meeting was a total success, with Chapter O having the most members in attendance ( 20 ), and showed the best MASH presentations or outfits in 5 competitions. Becky Cassitty stole the show as Radar. Dennis Juncker was eloquently attired as Klinger . Good times were had by all. Charles & Kathy Friedman will be working with Jim & Wendy Bengert and others to sort out the 2016 ride schedule for this season. If you have a particular location that the chapter should ride to, give them a call. Jim and Wendy are getting close to having a cell phone carry card for members soon. We want to congratulate Lynn and Scott Garrard for being chosen to represent Chapter O as Couple of the Year for 2016. Be thinking of items for the Yard Sale at Elberfeld on April 9th, so we can add to our operating fund. Stay tuned.

Vernon Hunt

Rider Educator

To all members and members to be,

Get ready, get set, let’s go. I know every one of us is chomping on the bit to get those mighty

steeds out of the stable, and I for one will do so every chance that I get. Before that happens though, have

you done the check list on your bike to make sure it is ready to hit the open road? Have you checked the

tires for wear and cracks? How long has it been since you have checked the brakes? When was the last

time you changed the fluids and changed the air filter? Does the battery have more than 3 years on it?

Maybe it is time to have it checked along with the other items I previously mentioned.

For those of us that can do the maintenance on our rides, we know that it takes time to get

these items done and done correctly. For those of us that need help with these little chores, it would not

be a bad idea to ask a fellow biker if they could help you with these maintenance items. If that is not an

option, then it might be time to check the local shops and see if they can get you in to get these items

taken care of before the riding season begins so the rides and trips that you have been planning on all

winter long are done worry free.

Now that we are getting the bike ready for the riding season, how about you? Has anything

changed in the last few months that might need attention? Have you updated your contact list and

medicine cards that you keep with you and store on your bike for those moments they might be needed?

Did you get the new Gold Book from the GWWRA? I put my new one in with the one from the year before

just in case. It is a very good idea to have those contact lists and medical cards incased to keep them from

getting wet and mutilated from the weather and other elements. It probably would be a good idea to take

the bike out on short trips to see if any new medications will affect the way you handle your ride.

I have to mention one more thing before I finish: the gear you put on to make sure that you ride

in comfort and that you are well protected. Check your gloves and do not forget to check that footwear as

it does make a difference on how comfortable the ride can be. Please, by all means check that helmet. Has

it been dropped multiple times? Check the chin strap and d-rings along with the date and liner. The helmet

makes the difference on how comfortable the ride can be along with the knowledge that you are well pro-

tected.

As a group let us all have a great and safe and enjoyable riding season. There is not one of us that

want unexpected issues on a ride or trip. So please take the time to prepare

and make this year as enjoyable as the previous years.

Ride safe so we can meet again, Vernon Hunt (Chapter O Ride Educator)

GWRRA Levels Program Dan Roberts

The purpose of the program:

Increase rider knowledge

Increase rider safety skills

Prevention of accidents

Reduce injuries/fatalities

Improve general public image of motorcyclists

How to become a part of the Levels Program

Level 1: Safety by Commitment

Level 1 of the Rider Education Program is also referred to as Safe Miles. It represents the commitment of the Rid-

er and/or the Co-Rider to practice safe motorcycle operation whenever they operate their motorcycle.

Safety is a state of mind which can only be attained through total commitment. Every successful accomplishment

begins with an Education Program and includes a promise to learn for the sake of riders, co-riders, friends, family

and others on the road.

Through there is no mileage requirement to enter Level 1, the commitment to safe riding is tracked by the num-

ber of accident free miles since joining GWRRA. Accident free miles are accumulated in 5,000 mile increments and

may be undated a yearly intervals.

Rider/Co-Rider Requirements:

The requirement for Level 1 is current membership and the expressed commitment of

the Rider and/or Co-Rider to strive for and practice safe riding. They are encouraged to

display Level 1 patches as an outward sign of that commitment.

Submit a completed Riders Education Program Levels application along with the optional

patch fee to the GWRRA officer for verification.

Learning is FUN!! Catherine Roberts

On April 23, Betty and Ed Schreiner will host two seminars at their home.

The Hills and Curves Seminar will start at 9:00 a.m. and be taught by Dennis Juncker. This class consist of all classroom work.

The Road Captain’s Course will follow the Hills and Curves Seminar. This seminar is part classroom and part on the road training. This class will also be taught by Dennis Juncker.

WHEN: April 23, 3016

WHERE: 2539 Knoll Top Ln, Henderson, KY 42420

Legend has it that Evil Road Spirits have been latching themselves onto motorcycles for as long as

there have been bikes on the road. These Evil road Sprits are responsible for mechanical problems

and bad luck along a journey.

Legend goes on to say that by attaching a small bell onto your bike, the Evil

Road Sprits will become trapped inside the bell, where the constant ringing

drives them insane, making them lose their grip until they fall to the ground and

become a pot hole. Legends also has it that the mystery of the Guardian Bell

carries twice as much power when it is purchased by a friend or loved one and

given as a gift.
