The goldfish is a little pet. It watches everything from his glass basin, it sees the outside transformed in

stretched and deformed images. Nobody would guess though that the goldfish has a very bad

memory and that it suffers loneliness. We chose this name by chance, by sympathy. But maybe, we also chose it to improve the goldfish's

condition: it will never be forced to a distorted visions, it will jump out from his glass world and it will swim

towards a nicer future, without the curved glass screen and the padded water.

This will be the jump that we all should do to change our point of view. Sure, the home of the goldfish is not

the best, it always is in a separated position. The hightest concept of 'welcoming' is the sea. It's in its

instincts although he might have never seen the ocean before. The sea, full of fish, open space and different communities is the inspiration. We equal a small fish lost in the chaotic modern world, the city

DOME COLONY X, A PROJECT FOR THE FUTURE CITYRanges geodesic tents in the former of Dia building, in New York, and offer them as space to host domestic so-cial activities that the standard apar-tament is too cramped or remote to accomodate. The idea is to share a place in the centre of the communi-ty, as the ancient societies did. In the bad perspective of a future without space, Fritz show a return to the past values, in a more welcoming society. Haeg has made a name for himself through a series of projects with strong echoes of the ‘60s and ‘70s: encour-anging people to convert their fronts lawns into vegetable plots, or design-ing bespoke housing for endangered animal species.Source:Article by Sarah Ichioka, Abitare n∞496, October 2009Photo: www.fritzhaeg.com

FREE CAMPINGIN THE CITY SPACEThe car tent is a clev-er solution for a easy and low cost night downtown or even just to get some pri-vate space if it’s get-ting really crowded. No need for booking into expensive hotel rooms and you’re independent about the location of your very own little rest area as long as the parking situation al-lows it.Source:http://weburbanist.com

MUSEUMIN TRANSITPlymouth city mu-seum and art gallery started a new way to reach out new tar-gets of people. If you don’t have enough money to go to the museum now the museum will come to you. It’s a kind of wel-coming art spreaded in the city for eve-ryone, from school classes to tourist and obviously for the in-habitants of the city.Source:Museum Practicemagazine, n.32

LIFT BIKEIt’s a new way to encourage people to use their bicycles for transportation on a daily bases. The new method was created in Norway where people didn`t use the bicycle as a means of transport for failing breath to follow the huge slops in the city. If you are tired of cycling, you can put a coin in the machine that the elevator takes you along with your bike to the top of the slope. A simple and inno-vative method that targets the comfort of the citizen and the future of the city.Source:http://blog.brasilacademico.com

THE FUN THEORY!The name says it all: they are simple ideas that make people change their behavior in society for the better. It is a funny way to care for the future of their city. Be it for yourself, for the envi-ronment, or for something entirely different, the only thing that matters is that it’s change for the better.Source:www.thefuntheory.com

WIKICITIESBased on the the modern infrastruc-ture of digital objects it is possible to have access and to submit any in-formation from anywhere anytime. The MIT uses real-time communica-tion system to develope a dynamic and complex solution for helping the inhabitants to make the better deci-sions because of the latest informa-tion provided by any member of the network. Each person who has access to digital devices like Ipods or mobile phones can automatically be such a member. Because of the highly inter-active exchange of data it is a very complex project which combines not only technological but also social as-pects. Therefore the senseable city lab consists of people doing research on multi-disciplinary topics. Source:diid disegno industriale industrial design,Innovation and research, year VII, 2009 n. 39

CUSTOMIZED INVITATIONSThe mood you get in by really feel that you are one of the few guests that are chosen to get in-vited to a party is indescribable. It’s a feeling that you are wel-comed. The Childhood Founda-tion arranged a charity ball this spring and the invitation was a children’s’ bracelet with the let-ters of your name in a certain colour which the guests were obliged to wear in order to get in to the party. Before the event you saw which other guests who were coming from the bracelet s the guests were welcomed be-fore the actual party had even begun.

To get new visitors of the city to feel really welcomed and to get a good first impression of the capital of Sweden, when approach-ing to the central station some of Sweden’s most famous celebrities are greeting every-one at the train welcome to Stockholm in a recorded message that airs from the speaker system of the train.Source: www.arlandaexpress.com

CHILDRENARE WELCOMEThe Project name is Aulì Ulè and it consists in a big urban park, a space with a few simple rules to leave freedom for children to play, which devel-ops horizontal in op-position with towers and skyscreepers. This idea in Milan seems to be reallysuccesful. Fulvio Scaparro though to a gift for the children of all the world for the Expo 2015.Free entrance for children under 12 years, no, bikes, no dogs, no smoke, adults accepted only as companion. ABERCROMBIE & FINCHWho doesn’t want to get photo-graphed together with a model with no shirt on? And even better, who doesn’t want to have the picture as a memory? In the stores of Aber-crombie & Finch you are welcomed in the store by the male and female “model of the month” who are offer-ing the customers to take a picture with them with a Polaroid camera so the costumers will get the picture in their hand just a second after taking the photo. Talk about a welcoming you never will forget! Source: myselfPicture: www.manolomen.com

KARAOKE TAXITo get from one place to another can be rather boring. Especially if you are in a party mood and don’t want to lose your party spirit. In Oslo they have a different kind of transportation, a karaoke taxi! It a mini van where you choose what songs you would like to sing and then, while getting to the next destination, you sing all together in the taxi. Source: MyselfPicture: www.flickr.com

ALOHA MEANS HELLO!The best way to feel welcomed to a city or country that you don’t know too well is to get a gift that is typical for the coun-try. In Hawaii for ex-ample travellers are getting welcomed with a flower neck-lace. This is a tra-dition since many years ago but is also a tradition that I think more cultures could take after. When ar-riving to Milan, why not offer the tourists a card with some of the many foot-ball players from the teams AC Milan or Inter?

POP UP SHOPKiosKiosk offers a small kiosk space to startups selling ce-ramics, art, fashion and other creative products. At no cost to its temporary ten-ants. Creative organ-isations, businesses or individuals ready to trade simply send in their details and explain why they’re a good candidate to fill the space. Ki-osKiosk’s founders note that, although the number of peo-ple enrolling in de-sign courses in the UK increases each year, it’s difficult for creative businesses to find affordable retail space in loca-tions with enough foot traffic to attract potential buyers. The initiative is backed by the London Sus-tainable Develop-ment Commission, working to promote creative independ-ent shops instead of more dime-a-dozen souvenir stalls. As well as encouraging startups and up-and-coming designers, the kiosk is a low-cost way for London to showcase the abun-dance of local crea-tivity to visitors from around the world.Source: ht tp ://www.k iosk iosk .co.ukPhoto: www.springwise.com

GUERRILLA GARDENINGGuerrilla gardening tryes to solve the problem of the urban decay in a new and nice way to create a more welcoming cityThis idea is spreading in Europe and now has arrived also in Milan. The idea is to rearrange the city and “fur-nish” it filling every dead and dam-aged space with flowerbeds, plants and various colorated flowers. With the aim of uplifting and embellishing repellent spaces, he believes scent can be a powerful artistic force.Scent is interpreted by the limbic system which is very closely tied to emotion and memory. This means that interacting with people using scent can potentially be a much more powerful medium than paint since people experiencing it canít help but react to it. It is more about the proc-ess of slowly becoming aware of the character of the city and developing a sensibility.
