Vanessa Jaynes and Kamisha Nona-maker sang their song “The Climb” about the process of going through life and climbing for their goals.

Paul Chaffin, college counselor, introduced the nominees for Student of the Year, and said the people were nominated from each department and selected through a special pro-cess including writing a paper and a personal interview.

Troy Johnson of Stratton, Neb., was named the Student of the Year, and Chaffin said Johnson knew everyone on campus and was an active leader in his department and other campus organizations.

Before going to the podium John-son shook hands with all the other nominees, and accepted the award from Chaffin. Johnson received a technical certificate from the Heat-ing, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration program.

Brenda Chatfield, vice president for academic affairs, announced the graduates and the certificates and degrees were handed out by Tony Bremenkamp and Matthew Lampe of the area board of control and Curt Goodwin, automotive technology instructor.

Christine Smith, assistant director of development and career services spoke about the importance of the Northwest Tech Alumni Associa-tion, and encouraged the graduates to stay involved with the college.
