Term 3 Week 6 Thursday, 2 October 2014
Acting Principal’s Message Term 3 It is hard to believe Term 3 is already half over. We have had so many wonderful things occurring with excellent reports on student behaviour and student achievement being received. I am pleased to say that every out of school activity our students attend I receive feedback from both in-school staff and out of school staff praising our students for their high level of respect, sportsmanship and pride they demonstrate when out of the school environment. We have also had many wonderful results which will be further outlined in the newsletter by the supervising staff. I would like to congratulate all these students on their success. New Initiative Over the last few weeks I have had some conversations with parents and staff regarding homework. Many parents have expressed an interest in receiving assistance in how to help their child with their weekly homework, especially those parents who have English as their second language. For this reason we are organising a Homework Assistance Program for PARENTS and CARERS.
Mrs Porter has generously offered to be available every Tuesday morning in the library at 8.30 – 9.00am. If you have a question about your child’s homework or would like assistance on how to help them understand the task, then come to the library
with a copy of the homework. At this stage Mrs Porter is only available until 9am but if there is enough need we will be looking at expanding the time frame assistance is available. Parent teacher Interviews Our school holds parent/teacher interviews in Term 1 and Term 3 each year. The date designated for the Term 3 parent/ teacher interview is Wednesday 3
rd
September. Notes outlining available times will be coming home this week with the confirmation of times being sent home to all parents on Friday, 29
th August.
Parents of students in the MCU will receive a later invitation for either the 18
th or 19
th September. The
varied dates are due to the need to hold annual review meetings which will be combined with parent/ teacher interviews this year. Policy Requirements It has been bought to my attention that we have some adults smoking at the entrance to the school. It is against DEC policy to be smoking on school premises, including school buildings, gardens, sports fields and car parks. It is also outlined in the Smoke-Free Environment ACT 2000 (updated in 2013) that smoking is banned within 4 metres of a pedestrian entrance to or from a public building. In following these guidelines it is requested that adults smoking near any of the entrances to the school ensure they are an appropriate distance away before having their cigarette. Below are two links to the policy and legislation for reference. Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

Kindergarten 2015 We have had a wonderful response to our Kindergarten Readiness program with 18 students registered to start this week. We are looking forward to getting to know our new students and their families. If you know of someone who has a child beginning kindergarten in 2015, could you please encourage them to call in at the office to register for the Readiness Program and kindergarten class. The earlier we know, the better prepared we are for the kindergarten classes of 2015 Mrs Holt Acting Principal

Term 3 Week 6 Wednesday 20 August 2014
On Monday the 18th of August, two representatives from the University of Western Sydney came to our school to talk to the year five and six students about independent learning. This was a follow on session from our ‘First Foot Forward’ visit to the Hawkesbury Campus earlier in the year.
Our year five and six students learnt about the importance of working independently and the skills they need to develop in order to become more effective learners. Working independently is a particularly important skill for the students who are transitioning to high school next year. The students all enjoyed participating in this brainstorming session and had some wonderful questions for the presenters. The University commented on the outstanding behaviour displayed by the year five and six students during this session
and on their previous excursion. There will be a further event later in the year at the University of Western Sydney in which our students will be invited to attend. Further details regarding this will be issued to families later in the year. Mrs McGuirk

Zone Athletics Carnival 2014
Last Thursday and Friday it was a pleasure to take a group of Campbellfield
Public School students to the Zone athletics carnival. Over the two days,
Campbellfield had over 20 students compete against our surrounding schools.
All students who participated in events really tried their best and showed a
sense of pride for our school. All students behaved fantastically at the carnival
and I was very proud of their sportsmanship and efforts.
