THE GRAPEVINE NEWSLETTER HOLY TRINITY EPISCOPAL CHURCH GILLETTE, WY. October 2017 Dear Holy Trinity, It was a joy to see Caitlan in church last Sunday! WELCOME HOME, Caitlan. Now more work must be done. You may have noticed in the bulletin insert (that you can easily take home and put on your refrigerator ). Cathy and Jeff have set up a “Go Fund Me” web page to help offset the incredible medical costs to save Caitlan’s life. The Web address is https://www.gofundme.com/4fmenhc. I have donated; I pray you will too. Because an anonymous donor gave $10,000 (Thank you so, so much) to the Holy Trinity Building Fund, the church is just in reach of purchasing the moveable walls for the classroom area. We are not quite there yet, but almost with the liquidity in the building fund checking account. Remember that $5966 some odd is in a CD earmarked for the landscaping, a phase three final cash expense. Remember too that, initially, Holy Trinity’s desire was to finish the building and work from the inside out. I ask that you pray about the classroom walls, the envisioned glass doors, the windows in the narthex, the stone façade around the building, the garden area, the labyrinth... All these cost. Please ask in prayer what is most important to the growth and vitality of the community. Make your prayers and thoughts known to a building committee member: Raymond Pierce, Cathy Raney, Rollie Parkison, Marty Phillips and Jay Mahylis. October 4 th , Wednesday, is St. Francis’ Day and we will ask God to Bless our critters at the 6:30pm service. So make a point of bringing Fluffy to church the evening of the 4 th . The Diocesan Convention will be Oct. 6-8 in Lander. Mary Catherine, Ray Pierce, Mary Appel and Carol Pierce are the Delegates to convention. A copy of the proposed agenda is in this newsletter. And the proposed budget is on the clipboard in the Guild hall. I am anxious to see the banner that Norma is completing for the festival day!! WOW!! The Diocesan Convention for 2018 will be in Gillette. Sheryl Matthews, Nancy Parkison, Karin Ebertz, Rev. Sally Boyd, and Chrystal Smith are in the initial planning stages of that. If you would like to be involved please get with Sheryl. . . . There will be plenty of help needed. Linda Duvall will facilitate Safe Guarding God’s Children on October 21starting at 11:00 am right after the DOK meeting. This is a great class on matter-of-fact principles for keeping Holy

Dear Holy Trinity, It was a joy to see Caitlan in church last Sunday! WELCOME HOME, Caitlan. Now more work must be done. You may have noticed in the bulletin insert (that you can easily take home and put on your refrigerator ☺). Cathy and Jeff have set up a “Go Fund Me” web page to help offset the incredible medical costs to save Caitlan’s life. The Web address is https://www.gofundme.com/4fmenhc. I have donated; I pray you will too. We are not quite there yet, but almost with the liquidity in the building fund checking account. Remember that $5966 some odd is in a CD earmarked for the landscaping, a phase three final cash expense.

Trinity’s children and vulnerable adults safe from predators. All those who work with children and youth are required to attend. . . . and all the congregation is welcome and should attend. It does take a community to keep us all safe. Even if you have had the class before, the Diocese requires a three year recertification. Recently I was with Margie McWilliams from GARF. Throughout the state in the public and private sectors there have been layoffs and cut backs. Holy Trinity is not immune. However, Jesus says "I have come that they might have life and have it abundantly” (John 10:10). Thieves, bandits, and wolves threaten the sheep. Hired hands abandon them. Jesus, by contrast, not only protects the sheep but also gives them abundant life. Take a moment to consider a theology of abundance. Often at the Wednesday night service the prayers begin: “Each thing we have received this day; from God it came. Each thing we enjoyed this day; from God it comes. Each thing we pray for this day, from God it will be given.” Let us lead from a theology of abundance, discerning the presence of the living God in unexpected places, mourning its absence, cultivating trust, becoming mindful, and practicing harmony. Perhaps as a result, like the Samaritan woman, we will drink deeply again and again from that perpetual wellspring of life, who is Christ, and find ourselves buoyed up by his abundance. We do drink from God’s well. Tom+

Oct. 1 reading from the Rule of St. Benedict: “The third degree of humility is that a person for love of God submit himself to his Superior in all obedience, imitating the

Lord, of whom the Apostle says, ‘He became obedient even unto death’.” Augment your reading of the “Forward Day by Day” by also reading daily from the Rule of St. Benedict:

SENIOR WARDEN’S REPORT Dear Holy Trinity, The Vestry is seeking help to bring Holy Trinity’s communications into the 21st century: our webpage and brochure are in dire need of talented folks to update and maintain them. Please see the Help Wanted ad in this edition of the Grapevine, and contact any Vestry member if you are able to volunteer your time and talent. The Building Fund balance is within a few thousand dollars of being sufficient to purchase the folding walls for the classroom area! In addition, we have begun soliciting bids for extending the sprinkler system to the north side of the property in anticipation of starting work on the memorial garden next summer. The folding wall purchase will deplete the Building Fund, so we hope to have sufficient funds for the sprinkler system extension by Spring 2018. Please keep the Building Fund in your prayers. Finally, please see the Sermon on the Amount below which reflects income to the General Fund to date and the monthly tithing and income needed. Respectfully, David T. Hill Senior Warden

Needed: ITEMS FOR WELCOME BASKETS We all need to keep a sharp eye out for the newcomers and returnees among us during Sunday service. An idea to minister to these folks was discussed at the last meeting of Holy Trinity’s

Daughters of the King. The idea is to have small baskets of goodies prepared and ready to give newcomers immediately following the service. At our meeting, we all agreed that good items might be loaves of bread; baskets, of course; the most recent issue of Forward Day by Day; a Holy Trinity coffee mug; a card with our service schedule; jars of jams, jellies, preserves, etc. To expedite the assembly of baskets, cupboard space in the guild hall will be dedicated to housing these items.

So, please look with new eyes at your fresh baked loaves of bread, muffins, cookies…and consider taking some to church! You can bring it any Sunday, and if we do not have a newcomer, the baked items can be wrapped up and frozen in the church freezer. This gesture of love and appreciation might also be extended to members of the congregation who return to us after an absence, or illness. Most importantly, EVERYONE is invited to participate in this new ministry to welcome and extend hospitality to our newcomers to Sunday worship!
