OVERVIEWWhat do ‘It Happened One Night, Rainman, Litt le Miss Sunshine and Crossroads’ all have in common? They’ve taught us that doing a road trip in the U.S. is just about one of the coolest things you can ever do. Of the innumerable ways to explore and understand any country, taking the tarmac across the length and breadth of a country sure has its uniqueness. With more than 3.7 mill ion square miles to discover, the United States has so many hidden gems accessible by road.

A road trip is as American as a barbeque on the Fourth of July. The open highway, sing along playlists, a cooler full of sodas and unforgettable conversations about nothing and everything. There's nothing quite l ike taking to the open highway in an American SUV and exploring this fascinating country. Travel is mostly about dreams - dreaming of landscapes or cit ies, envisioning yourself in them, murmuring the bewitching place names, and then finding a way to make the dream come true.

To make this very dream come true, Adventures Overland brings to you “The Great American Road Trip” – a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of driving through all the 50 states of USA in 60 days starting from San Francisco, the cultural and financial centre of Northern California and culminating in Honolulu, Hawaii, known best for Waikiki Beach, Pearl Harbour, and the dormant volcano, Diamond Head.

The adventure of a lifetime kicks off this week! Arrive in San Francisco and get ready for the journey of a lifetime and to make some everlasting memories and friends. After getting adequate rest & overcoming your jet-lag, you will get to meet your fellow participants along with the Expedition Leaders. You will also be handed over the keys to your incredible SUV, your partner-in-crime on this trip. San Francisco is home to a little bit of everything. Whether you are a first time visitor or a local, Golden Gate welcomes all. Visit Alcatraz, a former prison and go see the world-famous Fisherman’s Wharf. On day three, the real action begins. The road trip flags off in classic American style. We will drive on the Pacific Highway that connects San Francisco and Los Angeles, two places you are more or less guaranteed to want to see in the States. Frequently coined as one of the most scenic drives in America, California’s State Highway 1 or the Pacific Coast Highway as it’s popularly known is well worth the hype and you’ll see why. En route Los Angeles, we will make our first night stop at Big Sur, one of the world’s most unforgettable stretches of coastline. It is roughly a 90-mile-long stretch of redwood and fog-trimmed waterfront between Carmel-by-the-Sea and Hearst Castle. Next day, we continue our drive and head towards Los Angeles. Packed with glamour, legends, art galleries, wide beaches and more, Los Angeles will hit you right in the feel.

Week 1

Hollywood Sign Pacic Coast Highway

No trip to Los Angeles is complete without a visit to Hollywood, the home of movie studios, many of L.A.'s most popular and historic tourist destinations, and its world-famous namesake boulevard. Bye-Bye L.A., Hello Death Valley. Stark in appearance and haunting in name, Death Valley is a very-much-alive desert set between high, snow-capped mountains. Do you know what they say about our next stop? "If you don't see the sunrise, you probably didn't do your Vegas vacation right."

Golden Gate

We make a stop at Taos for the night and leave early morning for our next destination, Oklahoma city via the iconic Route 66. What’s up OKC? Whether you're travelling to Oklahoma City for the first time or are a repeat visitor, you'll find an eclectic assortment of museums such as Oklahoma City National Museum, Skeletons: Museum of Osteology and much more.

Choose to roll the dice in the massive casinos or travel the world in a day as you take a Venetian Gondola, pose in front of Eiffel Tower, or witness the famous Bellagio Fountain, who are we to judge? We drive away from the flashy Vegas 'Strip' to the dramatic landscape of Zion National Park, this change of scenery will bring you and the convoy back to nature again. Zion National Park is a scenic wonder and national treasure. No wonder the park attracts over three million visitors each year. Our night halt for that day is the vast, magnificent and inarguably beautiful, the Grand Canyon, easily Arizona’s most distinguishable landmark. Spend a day at this natural wonder, located in the southwestern region, the Grand Canyon is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World and also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After a good night sleep and eating a hearty breakfast, we leave behind the majestic Grand Canyon and start one of our very first ten hour plus drive of the trip towards Taos, New Mexico via Durango, Colorado.

Some call it the Space City, some call it Bayou City, others call it the Energy Capital of the World, Beyonce calls it H-Town. We start week three with visiting one of the most popular and well-known Space Center’s in the world - Space Center Houston. It is a leading science and space exploration learning center and the area’s number one attraction for international visitors. Next stop on the route map is ‘Big Easy’. Where to start? We just love New Orleans, Louisiana. With a free day in hand, visit Bourbon Street's plentiful live-music clubs of nearly every style. Tours of the French Quarter or the Garden District will easily fill the day of those who love to stroll. We leave New Orleans and heads towards the southernmost contiguous state in the United States – Florida and on the way pass through the State of Mississippi and Alabama. We reach Orlando, home to more than a dozen theme parks. Chief among its claims to fame is Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando Resort. There’s no limit to the many adventures and exciting times that await in Orlando, a city that’s inspired by dreams and wonder. Bid adieu to Orlando as we drive to the southernmost point of Continental U.S., the city of Key West via Miami.

Week 3

Taking a road trip through the Florida Keys is one of the best adventures you can have and the 110 mile stretch from Miami to Key West traverses the appropriately named Overseas Highway, crossing 42 bridges while taking you on a wild ride through one of the most picturesque, quirky and fun places. After making a short stop in Key West and marvel at the views, we drive back to Miami.

Miami is the cultural, economic and financial center of South Florida. The city sits between the Everglades to the west and Biscayne Bay on the east. It is one of Florida’s – and the world’s most popular vacation spots. Back in your SUV after a couple of days rest, we hit the road for a new adventure. Atlanta, Georgia here we come. Dubbed everything from the ‘capital of the new South’ and the ‘next international city’ to the ‘best place to do business’, this city is on fire. Welcome to the World of Coca-Cola in Atlanta. Sample over 100 different beverages, get bubble-ised and meet & hug the Coca-Cola Polar Bear. After experiencing the real stories behind the world’s most famous beverage brand, next day we leave for White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia via South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia.

Week 4

New York is calling, our final stop of week four. Before reaching New York, how can we not stopover in Washington DC? The White House is there, but not everyone knows the rich history behind it and its development so why not spend some time taking it all in?Miami White House

You made it to New York! It is going to be hectic as New York has so much to offer. Rest in Central Park, check out the Statue of Liberty, shop at 5th Avenue, spend the evening in Times Square, visit the Empire State Building or watch a Broadway Musical, the list is never-ending. Time flies really fast, already in the fifth week of our incredible road-trip, say good-bye to ‘The City That Never Sleeps’ and start driving towards Maine, north easternmost state of U.S. En route Portland, we shall cross three states in a day, namely, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Up next, journey into the heart of one of North America’s most powerful waterfalls – Niagara Falls.

Week 5

Henry Ford Museum Niagara Falls

Feel the mighty rush of the mist on your face aboard the Maid of the Mist. It’s the only way to experience one of the world’s most iconic natural wonders, right here in the US. Coming up, a stop at Motor City, Detroit, the largest city in the midwestern state of Michigan. Here, explore unique museums, scenic water views and much more. Visit the Detroit Institute of Arts to explore one of the best art collections in the country, take a romantic walk along the Riverfront, stop by the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation or go on a tour of Comerica Park.

Swing back in action as we drive from Detroit to Chicago crossing the state of Indiana in between. Take a breather today as you are in the ‘Windy City’, Chicago. Famed for its bold architecture, it has a skyline punctuated by skyscrapers such as the iconic John Hancock Center, 1,451-ft., Willis Tower (formerly the Sears Tower). Your trip to Chicago is incomplete unless you go to Giordano’s and eat their famous stuffed deep pizza. Also, visit the famous Wrigley Field, home baseball park for Major League Baseball’s Chicago Cubs franchise since 1916. Next up, we drive to Memphis, a city located along the Mississippi River in southwestern Shelby County, Tennessee for a visit to Graceland-home of Elvis Presley. The home of swing and bebop for some, "The City of Fountains", Kansas City in the state of Missouri welcomes you with open arms. It sits on Missouri's western edge, straddling the border with Kansas. It's best known for its barbeque, jazz heritage and fountains. We continue our drive from Kansas City towards Omaha, Nebraska. It’s known for its pioneer history, museums and cultural centers and is home to one of the world's best zoo, Henry Doorly Zoo.

Week 6

Graceland Henry Doorly Zoo

Also, it has the world's largest indoor desert, world's largest glazed geodesic dome, and North America's largest indoor rainforest. Lots of exciting things in store for you. We leave behind Omaha and drive towards Minneapolis, Minnesota via Iowa and Wisconsin, the biggest underestimated place in the north and our home for two nights. A dramatic riverfront skyline, three professional sports stadiums within 1.3 miles, so much art you’re literally surrounded by it and a theatre on almost every corner.

Wrigley Field

We continue our drive from North Dakota to South Dakota where long stretches of beautiful nothingness awaits. You will get a chance to see American history alive in stone at Mount Rushmore National Memorial. The midwestern attraction is surrounded by the beauty of the Black Hills of South Dakota. This monument to four U.S. presidents – George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln – by sculptor Gutzon Borglum is an impressive nod to the nation's history. If all that was not enough, we'll head to Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming to experience its famous geysers and hot springs. Yellowstone National Park's two million acres are home to an incomparable combination of natural beauty, rugged wilderness, majestic peaks and abundant wildlife, as well as the world’s largest concentration of geysers and thermal features.

Week 7

North Dakota Yellowstone National Park

Next on our itinerary is Lolo National Park, located in west central Montana. The forest spans two million acres and includes four wilderness areas; the Scapegoat and the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness are partially within the forest while the Welcome Creek and Rattlesnake Wildernesses are solely in Lolo National Forest.

Towering mountains, sparkling glaciers, and amazing wildlife: savvy travellers know that Anchorage is the key to finding the best of Alaska, all in one place. With four days at our disposal, get ready to tick off once-in-a- lifetime experiences like driving on the Dalton Highway, discovering the wild beauty of Alaska on the Alaskan rail, crossing the Arctic Circle and receiving a certificate from the local government and much more.

Space Needle

We are back on the road and from here, we drive straight towards seaport city on the west coast, Seattle passing through Idaho. Everyone should experience the Space Needle and Pike Place Market at least once. Learn all about the region’s deep aviation roots with a Boeing Factory Tour. Check out the massive Boeing assembly plant, the world’s largest building by volume, and see signature Boeing planes in production. After three nights of sightseeing and rest, we drive to Crater Lake National Park in Oregon by taking the I-5. It is a natural wonder born out of a cataclysmic volcanic eruption. With countless other activities and thousands of acres to explore, adventure is endless at Crater Lake. It is also the deepest and one of the snowiest lake in the US. We drive back from where it all started – San Francisco. Here, we leave behind our SUV’s and catch a flight and fly to one of the youngest states of the US – Alaska.

Week 8

Crater Lake Arctic Circle

Page 13: The Great rip American - Adventures Overland...Coca-Cola Polar Bear. After experiencing the real stories behind the world’s most famous beverage brand, next day we leave for White

We bid farewell to the ‘Last Frontier’ and fly to Honolulu, Hawaii, our final destination and the 50th state. It also happens to be the youngest and the most recent state to have joined the United States. Honolulu is known for Waikiki Beach, Pearl Harbour and the dormant volcano, Diamond Head, that is next to Waikiki. Our final drive of this journey starts from Honolulu towards Kawela Bay Beach Park. We take the long scenic route to our final destination along the coast line and head south-east from Honolulu. We will make stops at Hanauma Bay, Kailua Beach Park, take a detour to Pearl Harbour, to learn about one of the most pivotal moments in US history: the attack on Pearl Harbour, and the subsequent entry of the United States into World War II. Get back on the road to drive through the spectacular Kaawa Valley Road en route our last and final stop, Kawela Bay Beach Park in Kahuku.

Week 9

Waikiki Beach Diamond Head

Is it really over, 50 states in 60 days? In this trip, learning about yourself and other people will be your greatest joy. Exchange emotional hugs with your new friends (who won't be feeling so new by this point) with whom you have made some unforgettable memories that will last a lifetime. You will look back on this epic journey with the fondest of memories and the utmost gratitude. It was a one Hell of a Drive!

"If you reject the food, ignore the customs, fear the religion and avoid the people, you might better stay at home." – James A. Michener

• Food: We believe that cooking and eating in a foreign country is the surest and truest way to experience a country. That's why we make the best possible arrangements for you to sample the best of local delicacies and regional dishes that will leave your taste buds forever in debt! Also, we carry an emergency stash of packed Indian food for the days when you miss and crave our good old Indian cuisine. Please also consider that there will be some days when the food options will be limited and you may not get the best choices of food items that you are used to, those are the days when your understanding would be highly appreciated.

• Accommodation: At the end of a long-distance driving day, we understand the sheer importance of a warm and comfortable stay for you to kick your legs up and relax. That's why we have carefully picked the best hotels and resorts throughout the journey.

• Long-Driving Days and Early Starts: No distance feels long in good company. Every single driving day has been planned after carefully analysing and researching on the road conditions and facilities on route. There will be days when you will have to wake up very early and drive all day long before reaching the destination. On some days, even though the distance may not look too long but you will have to make an early start as we may have many sightseeing activities planned during the day. Trust us, once you complete your journey, you won't even remember the time when you had to leave your cosy bed a little early, but you will undoubtedly cherish the tiring days on the road.

• Planned Sightseeing: It is always the unplanned things that you remember rather than the planned ones! Despite the best of planning and efforts, there's still the possibility of a few hiccups along the way – breakdowns, bad weather etc. don't come announced and these can cause delays which may force us to skip some planned activities.

• Rest Days: Shop, sleep or go sightseeing. The motto for rest days is "Your Day, Your Way." We haven't planned any activities around the rest days so you can enjoy complete freedom to plan your day as per your interest. So, go ahead and catch up on sleep or shop to your heart's desire or just tick off all the local sights… the choice is yours. If you need any help to plan your day, feel free to knock on the door of your tour coordinator's room for assistance.

• Route Planning: It is fascinating to be out on the road and even more exciting to take pit-stops and detours! The entire route has been carefully planned by professionals to ensure that you have the best experience, without compromising on your safety and comfort. Our task is to make you complete this epic road trip safely and on time! All cars will have to continue driving on the predetermined route throughout the journey.
