Activity Overview

You will work in small groups to compose a mini mystery play the uses the four kinds of sentences.

Crimes must be humorous, not violent. The cast of characters might include a detective, a

witness, and a victim. Each character in the play should represent one of the

four sentence types. For example, Matter-of-fact Mike, an eyewitness in the crime, uses only declarative sentences.

The Case of the Missing Dentures was written by a 6th grader, so I know you guys can come up with some great ideas!

Group Goals

Today you must: Select your crime Determine the names of your characters Write your script (at least 2 lines per character) Make a list of props you will need for tomorrow.

Remember Group Rules: Level 1 Everyone works. Stay on topic NO Talking between groups

Play Performances

You will have 10 minutes to practice your lines. Remember, inflection and intonation are the key to a

good delivery! You may use your scrips during the performance. After each performance, the class will record the

characters names, and what type of sentence each character represents. Be able to give reasons why you determined what type of sentence each character was.
