THE GREAT TRANSITION

Degrowth as a passage of civilization

Degrowth is today not only an invitation to abandon the obsession with growth and the collective imagination based on unlimited growth, but also the most comprehensive effort to deal with the major phase of discontinuity our civilization is facing. Issues as climate change and ecological crisis, the struggle for social and environmental justice, the looting of resources, peak oil and energy crisis, all

accompanied by the growing dependence on technology and a huge crisis of social ties remind us the vastness of the challenge that awaits us. We are asked nothing less than to begin a journey of conversion and transformation of material and cultural foundations of the so-called "developed" societies.

This path involves the re-signification of the very idea of welfare or well-living, the reconstruction on a basis of justice and interdependence of the "north-south" relationship and the redefinition of a pact of solidarity between generations. A change putting on our agenda topics and issues apparently very different - work, income, consumption, waste, energy, technology, mobility, education, citizenship - but

actually inextricably linked.

A project of degrowth exempt from all reductionism, economic ecological or political, can be proposed only through comparison and discussion that pay attention to connections, interactions, transversal linking, with a strong cross-disciplinary look capable of holding together natural and social sciences. We will also pay particular attention to the different dimensions tied to the participation to the Conference and to conviviality, from travel arrangements to the sharing of food, from the time together to all forms

of exchange.

La decrescita rappresenta oggi non solo un invito ad abbandonare l’ossessione per la crescita e l’immaginario dello sviluppo illimitato, ma anche lo sforzo più complessivo per misurarsi con la grande fase di discontinuità che la nostra civiltà ha di fronte a sé. Questioni quali la crisi climatica ed ecologica, il saccheggio delle risorse, il picco del petrolio e la crisi energetica, le lotte per la giustizia sociale ed ambientale, a fronte di una dipendenza crescente dalle tecnologie e di una crisi del legame sociale ci

ricordano la vastità della sfida che ci attende. Si tratta niente meno che di intraprendere un percorso di riconversione e trasformazione delle basi materiali e culturali delle società cosiddette “sviluppate”.

Questo percorso implica la re-significazione dell’idea stessa di benessere o di ben vivere, la ricostruzione su di una base di giustizia e interdipendenza delle relazioni “nord-sud”, e la ridefinizione di un patto di solidarietà tra generazioni. Un cambiamento dunque che pone in agenda temi e problemi apparentemente molto differenti - lavoro, reddito, consumi, rifiuti, energia, tecnologia, mobilità, educazione, cittadinanza – ma in verità inestricabilmente collegati.

Proporre la decrescita al di fuori di ogni riduzionismo economico, ma anche ecologico o politico, è possibile dunque se si organizza il confronto e la discussione facendo attenzione alle connessioni, alle

interazioni, alle trasversalità, con uno sguardo fortemente transdisciplinare capace di tenere insieme scienze naturali e sociali. Intendiamo inoltre porre un’attenzione particolare verso le diverse dimensioni di presenza, partecipazione e condivisione: dalle modalità del viaggio, alla condivisione del cibo, dallo stare insieme alle diverse forme di scambio.

Altro Futuro is more than a fair with stalls and organic products, fair trade, social products, and the ones derived from prison economies; inside it there will be many activities (meetings, discussions, workshops, tastings, exchange of seeds, vegetable gardens, shows and concerts related to earth and degrowth): an opportunity to bring to

the city the issues of degrowth and sustainable city, proposing concrete steps toward degrowth.

Altro Futuro è molto più di una fiera con stand e prodotti biologici, equosolidali, sociali o provenienti da economie carcerarie, al suo interno infatti saranno presenti numerose attività (incontri, dibattiti, laboratori, degustazioni, scambi di semi, orti, spettacoli e

concerti legati alla terra e alla decrescita): un'occasione per portare in città i temi della decrescita e della città sostenibile, proponendo dei passi concreti verso la decrescita.

On the last day of the conference, projects and ideas which emerged in the workshops will be

exhibited in a hall: new projects to be launched, good experiences to be replicated, ongoing

initiatives to be supported will be exhibited so that everyone can see them, discuss them and

join them, or just meet and exchange contacts based on something good to be done. Whoever

contributed to developing an idea in the workshop can promote it here if they like, and also

see (and "adopt" if they wish) other people's initiatives. This "garden of ideas" will be open to

all conference participants and will help create the links and contacts which will preserve and

keep up what was sowed in the previous days at the conference.

L'ultimo giorno della conferenza, i progetti e le idee emerse nei laboratori saranno esposte in

una sala: nuovi progetti da avviare, buone esperienze da replicare, iniziative in corso da

supportare saranno esposte in modo che tutti li possono vedere, discutere e unirsi a loro, o

semplicemente incontrarsi e scambiare contatti in base a qualcosa di buono che si può fare.

Chiunque abbia contribuito a sviluppare un’idea nel workshop può promuovere qui, se gli va, e

anche vedere (e "adottare", se lo desiderano) iniziative altrui. Questo "giardino delle idee" sarà

aperto a tutti i partecipanti alla conferenza e aiuterà a creare i collegamenti e contatti che

preserveranno e manterranno ciò che è stato seminato nei giorni precedenti nella conferenza.

“ONLY CHILDRENS CAN GROW” "SOLO I BAMBINI POSSONO CRESCERE"

Boys and girls meet Queen Mare, Mr. Trip, the baker Basaglino. With them they cook and eat. With them they chat about who crazy people are, about their desires and perhaps also of their fears... During the 3rd International Conference on De-growth, the Fondazione Franca e Franco Basaglia

organizes a Creative Workshop for children, open to those who live in Venice, and to those who will come with their parents for the Conference. Boys and girls from all over the world, together to face important subjects concerning relationships between people. While playing together, they will be brought to reconsider the problem of diversity and the self. A topical issue in a world where the need to work on the quality of our life, rethinking the nature of relationships, is becoming crucial. Now is the time to speak to the young: children are the future living in our present.

During the three days of the Conference, for two hours every afternoon, the Fondazione, with some of its tutors and counselors, will organize a set of activities to introduce the children to new ways of viewing the ideas of madness, diversity, fears and expectations. While cooking and eating together, they will exchange views and play games with a group of strange characters drawn from the book “Ma sei matto?” (“Are you crazy?”). A very special book constructed by the pupils of two Venetian primary schools during some workshops on citizenship. The children will meet Mr. Trip, Basagliano the Baker and many others. But they will also meet two great horses: Regina Cavalla and her father, Marco Cavallo, the

blue horse that in 1974 was built as a battering ram to break through the gates of the Trieste psychiatric hospital, and became the symbol of Basaglia's struggle for the end of mental asylums and the beginning

of a new approach to psychiatric therapy, up to the _nal passing of the Italian law 180/78. Unlike her 38-years old father, Regina Cavalla is orange, young, inquisitive and full of energy, but still naive and inexperienced with people. Working with her and learning her story, the children will have a great opportunity to better understand themselves and their wishes. Discovering that we all share, with Regina Cavalla and with all the fools in this world, very similar wishes and expectations.

Ragazzi e ragazze incontrano la Regina Mare, Mr. Trip, il panettiere Basaglino. Con loro cucinano e mangiano. Con loro chiacchierano su chi sono i pazzi, sui loro desideri e forse anche sulle loro paure... Durante la 3 ° Conferenza internazionale sulla De-crescita, la Fondazione Franca e Franco Basaglia organizza un laboratorio creativo per bambini, aperto a coloro che vivono a Venezia, ea coloro che

verranno con i loro genitori per la Conferenza. Ragazzi e ragazze provenienti da tutto il mondo, insieme per affrontare temi importanti che riguardano i rapporti tra le persone. Durante il gioco insieme, saranno portati a riconsiderare il problema della diversità e del sé. Un argomento d'attualità in un mondo dove la

necessità di lavorare sulla qualità della nostra vita, ripensare la natura dei rapporti, sta diventando cruciale. Ora è il momento di parlare ai giovani: i bambini sono il futuro, vivono nel nostro presente.Durante i tre giorni della Conferenza, per due ore ogni pomeriggio, la Fondazione, con alcuni dei suoi insegnanti e consiglieri, organizzerà una serie di attività per introdurre i bambini a nuovi modi di

vedere le idee di follia, la diversità, le paure e le aspettative . Mentre cucinare e mangiare insieme, si scambieranno opinioni e giocare con un gruppo di strani personaggi tratti dal libro "Ma sei matto?" ("Sei matto?"). Un libro molto speciale realizzato dagli alunni di due scuole elementari veneziane durante alcuni workshop sulla cittadinanza. I bambini si incontreranno Mr. Trip, Basagliano la Baker e molti altri. Ma incontrerà anche due grandi cavalli: Regina Cavalla e suo padre, Marco Cavallo, il cavallo blu che nel 1974 è stato costruito come un ariete per sfondare le porte dell'ospedale Trieste psichiatrico, e divenne il simbolo della lotta Basaglia per la fine dei manicomi e l'inizio di un nuovo approccio alla terapia

psichiatrica, fino al passaggio _nal della legge italiana 180/78. Diversamente dai suoi 38 anni vecchio padre, Regina Cavalla è arancione, giovane, curioso e pieno di energia, ma ancora ingenuo ed inesperto con la gente. Lavorare con lei e la sua storia di apprendimento, i bambini avranno una grande opportunità per capire meglio se stessi ei loro desideri. Scoprire che noi tutti condividiamo, con Regina

Cavalla e con tutti i pazzi di questo mondo, i desideri e le aspettative molto simili.

We will deal with food soveregnity, safeguard of biodiversity and agricultural landscapes, short chain and Zero km productions, old and new farm chores, sustainable and ecological productions, and any other topic related to the land as a source of food and life.

L’Aia d’Acqua, è uno spazio culturale, aperto e partecipato, che si colloca all’interno dell'area eventi di Altro Futuro – Festival della decrescita e della città sostenibile organizzato da AERes-Venezia
