Must I have Omaha or Nebraska ancestors? No. Anyone can join. We have resources covering
the United States and beyond! They also have over a hundred other genealogy newsletters from other societies around the world.
What else does GOGS do?
We volunteer at the Omaha Public Library, providing many services to researchers, and hold work groups to assist individuals.
We answer emailed or mailed research requests.
We index births, obituaries, and other items from Omaha newspapers; index marriages from marriage licenses; and post them on our website.*
We “read” cemeteries and publish lists of burials and other information.
We use our fundraising proceeds and donations to purchase books, microfilms, and other materials for the Genealogy Reference Room at the W. Dale Clark branch of the Omaha Public Library.

Saturday, May 19—Class 5 Hands on genealogy research in books and film:
Join us on the 3rd floor genealogy room at the W. Dale Clark Library. 215 S. 15th Street. Learn what is available in books and microfilm. Not everything is on the internet. We are often buying new books and film.
Saturday, June 16—Class 6 Hands on computer searching techniques. We will be in the W. Dale Clark Library lab, learning techniques on how to search those elusive ancestors. You can bring in your own lap top to use in this class.

Saturday, January 20—Class 1
Getting started or re-motivated: If you are just starting out, have hit a brick wall, or waiting for something to get you re-motivated, then maybe getting back to the basics will help.
Saturday, February 17—Class 2
Part I: Vital records for the vital events of their lives. Vital records are some of the best
and most essential records for a well documented family history.
Part II: Substitutes for vital records. Where to go when vital records aren’t available.
Saturday, March 17—Class 3
Making sense of the census—Using U.S. & international censuses to map a family's progress. Federal and state censuses can fill in the gaps when vital records don’t exist, and show how your ancestors moved from place to place.
Part II—On-line trees, fact or fiction
A look at on-line trees and how to decipher their information.

Jan.-Apr. classes are held from
9:15 am to noon, at the Mormon Trail Center,
3215 State St., Omaha, in the downstairs classroom at the south door of the building.
(Doors don’t open until 9:00 am.)
May-June classes will be held from 10.00 to noon?
