The GREEN TEAM Farm Manager Organization and Description Wasatch Community Gardens is a fast growing, dynamic organization that envisions an inclusive, robust and vibrant community that is nourished by healthy and affordable food. Wasatch Community Gardens has served Wasatch Front residents since 1989 with the belief that the quality of a community is directly related to the quality of its food. We offer garden space, educational programs, and community events to empower people to grow, harvest, preserve, and prepare fresh, healthy food. We execute our mission through four main programs: Community Garden, Youth Garden, School Garden, and Community Education. All of our programs teach and empower people to grow and harvest food in a manner that builds a healthy, thriving community and urban environment. Through our new GREEN TEAM Program, (GT), Wasatch Community Gardens empowers homeless women through urban farm education, job skills training and employment. Women facing homelessnes from diverse backgrounds will come together to grow food to sell to Head Start, develop leadership skills, and personal connections to the food system. Working under the direction of the Executive Director, the GREEN TEAM Farm Manager is responsible for developing and managing all aspects of the farm, including operation of a 1 acre organic market farm, engaging the participants in greenhouse farm work, coordinating farm volunteers and developing and teaching farm-related lessons to the women participating in the program. All of the job training, education, and life skills will be handled by our program partners, Advantage Services and the Downtown Alliance. In addition, s/he will develop and manage program budgets and work plans and report on program deliverables. This position is also responsible for supervising the participants, the volunteers, and any program staff hired to assist in the farm operations. The successful candidate will have experience or interest in working with disenfranchised individuals, be experienced or interested in psychology or social work and be comfortable leading educational workshops with diverse individuals. A history of program management is important as is demonstrated experience with organic vegetable gardening. Requirements Driver’s license Ability to lift 50 lbs Strong written and verbal communication skills Basic Microsoft Office and budget skills Reliable communication via internet and phone Ability and enthusiasm for educating beginning farmers, interns, and volunteers Strong leadership skills and ability to inspire others to do high quality work Strong interpersonal skills; the ability to address various issues with staff, volunteers and community members in a diplomatic manner Experience Minimum three seasons of organic vegetable gardening Supervisory experience Teaching experience Familiarity with irrigation, cover cropping, and pest management using organic methods

• Farm management experience • Experience constructing and growing in a hoophouse / high tunnel • Volunteer coordination • Machine maintenance • Experience working in a non-profit environment • Knowledge of the use and service requirements of farm equipment and implements • Experience in greenhouse production of vegetable starts for transplant and sale

Hours 40 hours/week, semi-flexible schedule, some evenings and weekends. Salary and benefits: Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Starting salary $40,000-$45,000. Includes health insurance, paid holidays and generous vacation package.
