GREENFIELD HILL CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH FAIRFIELD, CONNECTICUT
OCTOBER 15, 2017 9:00 AM & 10:30 AM SERVICES
We love kids! But sometimes services are too long for even the happiest child. So ... • For infants we have nursery care in the Church House, first floor. • Any children ages 3 through those entering 2nd grade) are invited to the Church House for church school classes, from 9 to 10 a.m. • And if your kids get restless, the Parlor (through the double doors) is a comfy place to go to, with toys and a p.a. speaker that carries the service!
* Please turn off your cell phones during worship! *
Prelude Prelude for Reformation George Blake
God Is Our Hope and Strength
* Our Coming Together Prayer (unison):
Holy God,
in a moment we will proclaim our faith in song,
that You are “our mighty fortress,
a bulwark never failing,
You are our present help amid the flood
of mortal ills prevailing.”
We will admit the weakness of our own effort,
the presence of evil around us,
the threat
“of power great, armed with cruel hate.”
We will declare
our trust in You,
the power of Your word,
the truth of Christ’s Good News.
Thank You.
Amen.
4
* Choral Introit (10:30)
* Hymn A Mighty Fortress is Our God Hymnal, no. 65 (This hymn was written by Martin Luther, the leader of the Reformation)
* Confession Prayer, said together:
Holy God…
confession is humbling, Lord.
We can’t confess without looking at ourselves.
Closely. Honestly.
With humility we remember the hymn:
“Spirit of the Living God
fall afresh on me.
Melt me.
Mold me.
Fill me. Use me.”
We pray that now,
That You would reform us,
reshape us,
renew us,
in ways pleasing to You
and surprising to us. Amen. (silent prayers of confession)
* Assurance of Forgiveness
* Gloria Patri Hymnal, no. 35 (This hymn, sung every Sunday, expresses our gratitude for forgiveness)

A note about children in worship: We love them! But if you’d prefer to enjoy
worship on your own, our Church Nursery for infants-toddlers is across the street
in the Church House. Special beepers/pagers are available to parents so that they
may be quietly contacted during the worship service if their child misses them! If
your child in worship becomes restless or unhappy, please make use of the Parlor
(through the double doors by the choir loft, or head outside and through the side
doors). There is a comfortable space there for your child to play with toys and a
speaker which carries the service!

(From our Adult Ed Board; this Fall marks the 500th
anniversary of the Protestant Reformation) FUN FACT
FUN FACT #4 ABOUT THE
REFORMATION: Reformation Day is a national
holiday in ... Chile? Protestantism, especially with the
growth of Pentecostals, has exploded in Latin
America. Chile, a majority Catholic country like much of the region, has seen a
rapid rise in Protestant believers. The late Christian mayor of Bethlehem, Elias
Freij, when asked as to the whereabouts of the once majority Christian population
of that holy city, reportedly pointed a finger westward and replied, "In Santiago de
Chile". Que viva la Reformación! Join us in the Sanctuary on Wednesday, October
25th @ 7:30 pm to reflect on The Reformation and its impact on church and
society with Glenn Sunshine, PhD.
Remembrance Sunday takes place on Sunday,
November 5, at the 9:00 and 10:30 a.m. services.
We will remember those who have died in the past
year, friends, loved ones, neighbors – and we will
remember the promises of our faith, with beautiful
music from our Chancel Choir and guest musicians. If you would like your
loved one to be remembered during this service please call or email the church
office at 203-259-5596 or [email protected] by November 1st.
Games and Fellowship night… Please join us for a night of Games, Fun, and Fellowship on
Friday, November 3rd at 7pm in the Memorial
Room! You won’t want to miss the fun and
maybe a little bit of friendly competition to
win! Lite bites and beer will be served (adults
only, please). Rsvp to the Church Office (203-259-5596 or
[email protected]) And for now… Let the Games Begin!

CAMILA JOY COSIO
Introduction
Prayer of the Parents (Krissi and Chris, Erika and Ryan):
Loving God, we rejoice in the gift of our daughters, who are our heart’s
greatest joy! We pledge our lives and our love to them. May all that we say,
and all that we are, lead them towards a strong and sure faith in you.
Together as a family of love, may we delight in each other always. In Christ's
name we pray. Amen.
Questions to the Godparents (Erika, Brian, Krissi, and Giovanni)
Do you promise, first, always to be a friend to your goddaughter? (We promise)
In what you say and what you, will you live as an example for her -- of
kindness and compassion, of hope and faith? (We will)
And will you encourage your goddaughters to wonder, to ask the hard
questions, to rejoice in mystery, and to listen for God? (We will)
Congregation: We welcome you, Camila and Elle, into the circle of love in Christ's church!
We promise to pray for you always, and to cherish you and every child of
this church. Amen.
Baptism
Congregational Song: Welcome, children, welcome, see our hands reach toward you, Did you hear our promise to care, to teach, to love you?
Welcome, children, welcome, to God’s house today
Now you are invited to learn, to love, to pray.

OPEN TO THE PUBLIC – FREE ADMISSION
The year 2017 marks the 500th anniversary of the beginning of the Protestant
Reformation. The Reformation had a much more far-reaching impact in
shaping society and culture than simply changing our understanding of the
Gospel. The Protestant Reformation has been interpreted in a variety of
ways by historians, sociologists, and other scholars over the years. While on
the surface it was a religious movement, some scholars argue that the
religious elements masked deeper, secular causes. Please join us in
reflections on the Reformation and its impact on church and society.
